ARC Review: ☆Knight☆ by Julia Sykes

The Amazon bestselling Impossible Series continues!
A woman shattered…
He took me and broke me.
I am plaything, a possession.
If I did ever have a name, I don’t remember it now.
Slaves don’t have names.
Salvation found in obsession…
He stole me away from the man who tormented me. He saved me and took me into his care.
His touch keeps me sane.
His control keeps me grounded in reality.
He demands that I reclaim my humanity, my autonomy.
He forces me to piece the shards of myself back together.
I am utterly devoted to my savior, but his brand of rescue might leave me more broken than ever.
How can I ever become truly whole again if I can’t learn to let him go and take control of my own life?
Do I have a hope of finding freedom when he refuses to release my heart?
Or is this new form of captivity just what I need to survive?
WARNING: Given the nature of this story, this book contains graphic violence and references to sexual assault, which some readers may find upsetting. It also contains sizzling scenes of (consensual) BDSM!

NOTE: Knight is part of the Impossible series, but it can be read as a standalone story without spoiling the other books.

Your name, girl.

Tell me. Now.”

Fear flashed across her features.

“F-fucktoy,” she whispered tremulously.”

This book was very different from anything I’ve ever read in the past and I struggled with my rating because of it. I’m a big fan of Dark Romance and BDSM and I’ve read plenty of it, but this was a mix of a few things and yet…not.

Knight starts off with Smith’s POV during the FBI raid of a BDSM club. Being a Dominant himself, it’s not something that’s out of his normal routine, but what Smith finds there manages to test even his carefully mastered control and anger. Because among the the faceless bodies in that place, he sees her. A woman that is clearly a sub, but even more clear a victim…but of what, he doesn’t know yet.

I didn’t have a name. If I did ever have a name, I didn’t remember it now. I was a slave, and slaves don’t have names.

The rest of the book gets told in her POV.

She knows herself only as slave. A woman so broken, she’s shattered, all at the hands of a monster that has put her through hell. Slave has suffered atrocities that are so painful, just the mere memory has the power to bring her to her knees. She doesn’t know the woman that she once was, she doesn’t remember her…nor does she want to. She’s no longer that woman. She’s buried that in the recess of her mind never to be accessed again.

I’ll be honest, the first 30% of so was very slow. It was difficult to read, and not because it was bad. Julia Sykes’ writing is captivating, and I enjoyed the way she painted a very vivid and painfully dark experience that Slave suffered. Slave is as broken as they come. Broken down to a mere shell of who she once was, she was as fragile as glass.

Smith knows that no medicine can help Slave in the state that she’s in. As a Dom, he knows the control and rules that she so desperately needs and clings to in order to maintain her fragile grasp on reality. So he takes it upon himself to give her that.

Julia Sykes did a fantastic job painting a very realistic picture of a woman that is beyond damaged. I understood her almost obsession and utter devotion to Smith.

I also enjoyed the progression that she goes through from Slave to a semblance of the woman she once was.

Although I wouldn’t call this a dark book, the things that Slave goes through were horrendous and not easy to digest. You have to prepare yourself since it’s no light read. However, it’s also not an action packed and high paced one. The progression is slow moving and slow building, which ultimately makes the story, yet also makes it difficult to get into right away.

Although slower paced that what I’d normally read, it managed to constantly keep me on my toes not knowing what would happen next. Julia manages to throw in some BAM moments that kept me guessing and on pins and needles almost afraid to see what would come next.

The overuse of endearments like “sweetheart” and “girl” did grate on me at times, but nothing that diminished my enjoyment. The love story is not an orthodox one, that’s for sure. What begins as as a clingy obsession turns into something much more eventually.

I really loved the way that the author build the heroine back up throughout the book. She goes from slave to her true identity in a very realistic way. This was not something that happened overnight and you feel that emotion and pain right along with her.

I can’t say that this is something I ever see myself going back to, but I did enjoy it. And I will definitely be continuing with the series as I’m invested in the story and very curious to see what the next book brings. Particularly with the “Mentor” still not caught.

Mainly told in Slave’s POV, the prologue and epilogue we do also get Smith.

I look around and see a guy staring at me. He’s about my age, not much taller than my five feet five inches, cute, and wearing a suit and tie. I start to wave to see if he’s the one I’m meeting, but then another guy catches my attention. He’s about six three and huge, and I don’t mean just in height; his body looks like it’s been chiseled from stone. He’s wearing black boots, washed-out blue jeans, and a white t-shirt, and every piece of skin exposed is covered with tattoos. His ears have those gauge thingies in them. His dark blond hair is cut low on the sides, and the top is in a fauxhawk. His jaw is strong, with a few days of stubble, and his eyes are so blue that they almost look like contacts. He is beautiful in a way that is unusual but no less gorgeous.
His eyes come to me before looking away quickly, and the next second, they come back to me and do a head-to-toe sweep. I gulp at the intense expression on his face. I glance past him to the other guy—or at least try to—but Mr. Tattoo starts towards me, blocking my view. I want to take a step back, but I can’t go anywhere. Then I see my phone in his hand.
“This yours?” he asks.
I nod like an idiot. He shakes his head, running his free hand down his face, and then his eyes sweep over me again.
“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” he says, seeming upset.
I look down at myself, wondering how I could’ve offended him. I look normal—or my working-outside-the-house normal. When I’m at home working, I wear baggy sweats I cut off to make shorts or pajama pants that hang off of me along with tank tops or T-shirts. The few days a week I get out of the house, I like to dress up or at least wear heels.
“This cannot be fucking happening,” he growls, and I wonder if he is completely crazy.
“What?” I ask, finally finding my voice. I have to tilt my head way back; even in my four-inch heels, he still towers over me.
“You.”
“Me, what?” I ask, confused.
“Never mind. Who is this?” He presses the button on my phone, the screen lights up, and a picture of Jamie Dornan wearing nothing but a pair of jeans takes up the screen.
“Um…that’s Jamie,” I reply, wondering why he is asking but too afraid to ask him; the look on his face isn’t very inviting for conversation.
“He your man?”
“I wish,” I mumble under my breath and hear him growl.
My head flies back as I search his face; his jaw is ticking, and his knuckles of the hand holding my phone are turning white.
“What does that mean?” he asks.
“That’s Jamie Dornan. He’s playing Fifty. I don’t know him.” I feel my cheeks heat up and look down at my feet.
What the hell’s wrong with me? Why am I not afraid right now? I have been scared of virtually everything my whole life, and now, when I should be running for cover, I’m not scared at all. Just a little embarrassed.
“I don’t have time for this,” he says, and I don’t know what he’s talking about, but I all of a sudden really want my phone out of his hand before he crushes it to smithereens.
When I look up again, I see that he is walking away. My eyebrows come together, and I wonder what he is doing. Then I realize he still has my cell.
“Hey! You can’t steal my phone!” I run after him, grabbing his arm.
He looks down at me then stops short. I’m completely caught off guard when he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me flush against him. His free hand goes into my hair and pulls my head back, and then he kisses me. No, not kisses—he consumes me. My body starts to buzz like someone just plugged me into an electrical outlet, and I start to feel lightheaded. When he pulls his mouth from mine, I gasp, my fingers going to my lips.
“What was that?” I whisper, looking into his eyes.
“What’s your name?” he asks, still holding me close.
“Sophie,” I tell him, my answer spoken behind my fingers.
His body is as hard as a rock against mine; I can feel every muscle, every contour, and it takes everything in me to keep breathing. I realize this is the first time in my life I have ever felt small, my curvy figure never having allowed it before.
“Sophie,” he repeats, standing up to his full height and pulling me with him. I look around and wonder if time has stopped for anyone else.  “My name is Nico.”
“Of course it is,” I say, staring into his amazing eyes, thinking that a guy who looks like him would have a name like that—cool and hot, something that rolls easily off your tongue but is hard to forget.
“I’ll see you when I get back into town, Sophie,” he says as he lets me go, making sure I’m steady on my feet.
“What?” I ask, looking around again.
“Here’s your phone.” He hands me my cell, and I’m still a little lightheaded when he starts to walk off again. I watch in a daze as he leaves, but then he turns around to face me from a few yards away.  “Sophie?”
“Yeah?”
“Change the picture on your phone,” he demands before he turns and disappears into the crowd.

Dream Cast
3.5 Stars

We are going to explore this thing between us. We are going to take it as slowly as you need, but you are not going to push me away. It’s not going to work. You push me, and I will push back.

Let’s be honest, if you’re looking for an unpredictable and angsty book with unbelievable sexual tension, you will not find that here. But yet as another reviewer, J, said, these books are like crack. Highly predictable, steamy, insta-pretty much everything crack. Yes I know I hate insta-anything, but for some reason it just works here for me. The Mayson brothers take their “boom” shit verra seriously. And when they feel it and set their sights on the woman? Well they go after them with the determination of a mac truck.

And once they catch them? Well, I swear these boys have the sperm with the accuracy of a heat seeking missile. So word to the wise, heroines

Just saying.

After practically devouring the last book, I was dying to get my hands on Nico. Deliciously tatted up Nico.

Did I also happen to mention the piercings? And I’m not just talking about his ears

Poor Sophie never stood a chance.

When she first meets Nico when he finds her phone and gives it back to her, sparks fly immediately.

But c’mon. That’s not really too surprising here.

Nico knows right away that Sophie is his boom, and he pursues her relentlessly. Not that she puts up much of a fight. Oh she has her doubts for maybe all of 2.5 seconds, but Nico certainly sets her straight on those.

You’re mine, Sophie. I don’t give a fuck what you think, or what the excuse it you try to give me, but you are mine.”

You won’t find anything here that you haven’t read before, but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it. Because I did. I really did. Nico was delicious. Its hard not to fall hard for these Mayson boys.

Plus with the few new faces that were introduced here, I was highly intrigued on where it would lead. Let’s say I’m even more excited about the spin off Aurora has in the works. I only ask that Lars is right after Kenton.

So why not 5 stars then? To be honest, after how much I loved Until Lilly, this one fell a bit short. I’m not saying I expect every book in the series to blow me away, but still. I thought this could have been a much shorter book, as some of it felt a bit drawn out and I found my interest waning toward the end. I loved the steamy sex scenes, but I wanted just a little more story. I’m not sure that all the craziness at the very end was necessary. I almost felt that it was just thrown in to spice things up or something? But really, it just had me rolling my eyes. The whole “bad guy” thing was highly predictable, and I knew right away who it was…and it still had me scratching my head at the necessity of it. Short of adding some drama to the mix, it brought absolutely nothing to the story for me.

The one thing that I really love about this series are the sugar sweet epilogues, and it certainly delivered on that end. I absolutely loved it. It was the perfect conclusion. I read it with a big goofy smile on my face. So while it wasn’t a 5 blow me away star read, it was still an enjoyable one and I’d gladly recommend it for fans of the series.

Now if I can just get my pervy little hands on Kenton’s book sooner… Because the teaser at the end had me going a little

Cash Mayson had forgotten how it felt to be loved Until Lilly came back into his life. And now that he remembers, he will do everything within his power to keep not only the woman that he loves, but also his children.

The power of love is a beautiful thing.

ARC Review: ☆Overwhelmed by You☆ by @nashodarose

Love is ugly and secrets will destroy you.

KAT

I don’t beg.
I don’t cry.
And I don’t give second chances.

Ream, the lead guitarist of the rock band Tear Asunder, deserves a gold medal for best dick move ever when he ran the moment he discovered my secret after two days of hot sex. Then he brings some chick to my coming home party from the hospital—after being shot.
I hate him.

Until …

Ream’s six foot two frame unfolds out of the car after being gone on tour for eight months. I stared. And in my defense, any girl would stare. It would almost be rude not to because Ream was the type of guy who stood out. Not because he was loud and obnoxious. No, it was because he was the complete opposite. Subtle and dangerously quiet. If he spoke, you’d better hope he liked you because otherwise you’d be falling at his feet begging for mercy. Except me … I don’t beg—ever.
But when our eyes locked, it was Ream’s steady confidence that had my nerves shooting off like jet sprinklers.

Then…

Ream told me he didn’t need a second chance because he was still working on his first.

REAM

Sex is ugly. It’s using someone for your own narcissistic pleasure. I did it, but hated it—until her. She was unexpected. Then I had to wreck our beginning with my screwed up past. I don’t deserve her, but I’m selfish and I’m taking her anyway. This is who I am and it’s too late to change me.

4 Holy Crap that last 30% Stars

Whatever damaged key he used, Ream was already inside me and it fit. We fit.

The absolute second I read about Ream in Torn from You, I knew I had to get my hands on his book him immediately. I mean the guy was a royal dick. An asshole. An utter and complete asshole.

Which only meant that I feel for him that much harder. Yes, the more of an asshole they are, the more they make my pervy little heart go all pitter patter. It’s a condition. We’ve been over this. I’ve accepted it. Let’s move on.

Although this could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first book in the series as it will help paint a stronger picture of the couple. I was hoping that this would pick up somewhere in the middle of what happened in the last book, simply because I would have loved to have Ream’s POV on some of the things that took place. But this picks up a few months after the events of the last book, and gives a few flashbacks.

I loved the way that Nashoda started off each chapter with a cryptic flashback teaser. I knew from the very first paragraph that Ream’s story and history would not be an easy one, a light one, or a pretty one.

Behind the asshole veneer lay the damaged soul of a man that has had to experience some horrific things. But you don’t get to find out EXACTLY what they are. The flashbacks in each chapter help build a very vivid picture, however. My poor Ream, constantly trapped within his memories, unable to shut out the voices from his past. My heart absolutely broke for him.

If you’ve read the first book then you know that Ream does something to Kat at the end of it that manages to finally break her tough girl act. It was devastating and left you wondering if you could ever forgive him. Now over 2 years later, Ream finally gets his shit together and goes after Kat with the determination of a bull. But Kat is having none of it. Prepare yourself for angst galore.

I’m not going to lie, I spent large chunks of the book wanting to throttle Kate for being as stubborn and flat out mean to Ream as she was at times. Though considering their past, I somewhat understood her hesitation. Doesn’t mean her immaturity at certain points didn’t drive me batty. I was also very impressed with the twist that Nashoda threw in with Kat’s secret. It was not the typical explanation that you normally read about, and I commend the author for taking such a different route.

Though Kat puts up a good fight for a while, Ream manages to break through her resistance eventually. I mean who can resist a sexy as hell, possessive, intensely jealous rock star for long? And when his sweet side comes out? Forget about it!

I wasn’t expecting for things to be smooth sailing, not at all. I knew that when the entirety of Ream’s past would come to light, it was going to be ugly. And holy mother of all crap to hit the fan! That last 30%?! WHOA! I thought I knew what was coming, but hell fucking no! I think I spend the majority of it reading like this

Damn.

Although Overwhelmed by You didn’t manage to blow me away as much as Torn from You did, I still enjoyed it immensely. Sometime you find an author whose writing you just click with, and I think that’s the case for me here. I can’t get enough of the Tear Asunder boys, and can’t wait for the flirty Crisis to be finally brought to his knees next. Though I’m absolutely salivating for Deck’s story…especially with that teaser at the end.

Review: ☆Torn from You☆ by @nashodarose

Love is like an avalanche. It hits hard, fast and without mercy.

At least it did for me when Sculpt, the lead singer of the rock band Tear Asunder knocked me off my feet. Literally, because he’s also a fighter, illegally of course, and he taught me how to fight. He also taught me how to love and I fell hard for him. I mean the guy could do sweet, when he wasn’t doing bossy, and I like sweet.

Then it all shattered.

Kidnapped.
Starved.
Beaten.
I was alone and fighting to survive.
When I heard Sculpt’s voice, I thought he was there to save me.

I was wrong.

(It is highly recommended to read “With You” the novella first).

*Warning: This book contains some disturbing situations, strong language and sexual content. Over 18 years.

4.5 Broken and mended back together stars

We’re only broken when we’re apart.”

Holy shit. Wow. I had no idea what to expect from this book, but I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. The best advice I can give you is to go into this absolutely blind. Don’t read reviews as even some of the most minor stuff can be spoilers. I will try to sum this up the best I can without giving anything away.

One minute Emily is in love and giving her virginity to a man she loves and trusts implicitly. She’s been dating Sculpt, the lead singer of a band and underground fighter, for months now. She’s looking forward to more time with him, to plans, to hope…

The next minute she wakes up in her own personal hell.

Kidnapped.
Starved.
Beaten.
I was alone and fighting to survive.
When I heard Sculpt’s voice, I thought he was there to save me.

I was wrong.

At this point of the story I was completely and utterly lost. It was a state of “what the fuck” and “what’s going on”, but I read on

And the plot just thickened.

Logan, or Sculpt, went from being her dream to her personal nightmare in just a blink of an eye and the crack of a whip.

I’m scared.”
Logan stared at me with eyes that were cold, dark, and without a spark of…anything.
“You should be.”

Nashoda Rose wrote a captivating story that gripped me from the very first chapter. You experience every feeling, tremor, and lost hope along with the heroine. You want Logan to turn out to be the good guy, for this all to be some sort of trick, but is it really?

You need to fear me, not hate me.”
I did. I feared him. But I think I hated him more. No. I knew I hated him more. For what he’d done. For what he was doing. For the betrayal. Most of all, for tarnishing something so beautiful and making it ugly.

Emily was a heroine that I should have by all intents and purposes been annoyed with, but yet something about her just clicked for me.

As for Logan? Well, not much I can tell you about him without giving anything away. But what I can tell you is that by the end of the book you would have fallen for him. Hard.

There is a strong distinction in the writing and feeling of the first and second half. The first half having a much darker and grittier feeling to it, while the second half is more emotional. What happens to lead from one to the other? I won’t tell you that. That’s something you have to read to find out.

This is not a dark romance, but precisely as the blurb says it’s a romance with dark elements in it. It will suck you in and keep you riveted to the pages until the very last one.

Nashoda Rose definitely has herself a new fan after finishing this book, and I cannot wait to find out what she has in store with the next one.

And that’ll be when Dornan and the rest of his sons are dead and buried.

Jase might forgive me for what I’ve done.

But will he forgive me for the crimes I’m yet to commit?

If you haven’t read the first 3 books in the Gypsy Brothers series, STOP reading my review immediately. Although it will be a spoiler free review of this book, it will contain some MAJOR spoilers of the previous 3. What are you thinking even reading this? Honestly!

Now then, let’s move on to my ragey rant review, shall we?

That gif up here? That would have been me while reading this book yesterday. I was an emotional mess. You want to know what 16 chapters of anxiety feel like? Read this book!

3 books, over 3 months and many suspenseful and tension filled reading hours I’ve spent waiting for a certain secret of Sammi’s to finally come to light. I’ve been agonizing over when Jase will finally find out the truth. And then when he finally, FINALLY does in the end of book 3, it ends. Suffice it to say I was a little upset

Thankfully I got my hands on this book after weeks of waiting, and it delivered on every promise I was hoping it would.

Lili’s writing continues to not only blow me away, but get better with each new book. With each new chapter I get more and more sucked into Julliete’s plan of vengeance and heartbreak.

Honestly, to give you even a little bit of details from this book would spoil the experience of reading it, so I won’t even try. What I will tell you is Lili continues to trickle down information that effortlessly builds the whole picture. Things you may have questioned in the previous book receive answers in this one, yet still leaves you with more questions.

Then there was the endings. Holy mother of fucking cliffys!!

And by my room and processing it, I mean

So what’s next for Julz and Jason? Only the twisted mind of Lili St. Germain knows. What I know? I will be right here, slowly dying a little each day in my wait for book 5…on fucking JULY 26.

Edge
Book 3 in Fire on Ice Series
Brenda Rothert

One bad hit has left the career of young NHL Center Luke Hudson in question. When he arrives for rehab with a minor league team, his injury has robbed him of the edge that made him great.
Team trainer Adella Price’s job is to help Luke get back in peak condition. But their one on one sessions shake her resolve to remain unattached. Dell is hands-off to all hockey players, even one as charming and successful as Luke.
As Luke starts to get ahold of his game again, he loses his grip on his heart. Helping Luke get his edge back brings to light what Dell is missing from her life. But those who want them apart are relentless, and with their careers on the line, Luke and Dell must decide if their love is worth risking it all.

FIVE HOCKEY STARS.

“You enchant me …”

Brenda Rothert certainly delivered the goods with this novel, everything about it felt designed perfectly for my reading tastes and I was left feeling like i’d had my cake and eaten it. I’m never going to have enough of my addiction to a sexy romance book and this author lovingly provided a reading escape that I’ve been craving. I wasn’t at all surprised that I fell for this novel as I loved the two previous books of this series and so I was already expecting to enjoy what this author would bring to the third book in the ‘fire on ice’ series and I can happily review that i proved myself right, Brenda Rothert writes steamy-dreamy romances that are superbly written, heartfelt and loveable. You won’t find any complaints in this review, Brenda Rothert is an author that I have grown to adore.

What’s it all about?
After a serious injury on the ice, NHL star Luke Hudson is now on the road to recovery. Part of his rehabilitation means he has to start back to basics and recover at a minor league club. Little did he know that his determination wouldn’t be his only focus, when Luke meets the feisty, red headed trainer, Adella ‘Dell’ Price he can’t quite believe how she makes him want more and as the story develops so does the growing feelings between Luke and Dell. But this couple encounter more difficulties than would be expected especially when a non fraternisation policy is enforced putting a stop to their growing chemistry and need for each other. Jump aboard this gorgeous romance and fall in love alongside the irresistible Luke Hudson, you won’t regret it, not for a minute.
What did I love?
It’s no secret that I love a sports themed romance and one that is hockey related is even more of a win win. Brenda Rothert created two extremely likeable characters coupled with a great plot and fabulous erotic story telling. There was nothing about his book that didn’t appeal to me. If like me you like a slow burn romance with a believable storyline then you will adore this book. The chemistry and realistic development of relationship really won me over and I never once wanted to skip over a scene or felt distracted from the novel instead I felt like I couldn’t wait to get back to reading this gorgeous romantic story and escape into my kindle. Brenda Rothert certainly puts the ‘s’ in the sexy, her erotic scenes may not be the dirtiest or most kinky that I have read but they definitely left an impression, this author can write with a sensuality that gets the toes curling and heart thumping and I must admit I’ll never be looking at a washing machine or shower again in the same way. Rothert’s books have the undeniable blush factor coupled with a swoony romance factor that brings home the butterflies that I’m always on the look out for. As for the characters there was a predictability with the man-whore turned one woman man hero, but don’t be put off I for one can’t get enough of re telling those type of characters as for the heroine she was a feisty, but vulnerable and extremely likeable single mum with a gorgeous best friend that I’m already hoping the author will write a book for. All in all I was blown away by this third instalment to the ‘Fire on ice’ series and I can gladly confess that Luke Hudson won my heart.
Final thoughts …
This book easily kept me glued to my kindle and if it wasn’t for the 6AM alarm clock waiting to drag me out of bed for work I would have devoured this lovely book in one sitting. Brenda Rothert creates stories that suck you right into the middle of the action and make you fall helplessly in love. If you like well written romances with characters that will leave you with a smile on your face then you don’t want to miss out on this series. I’m already getting ready to beg this author to continue on with this series I’m not ready to say goodbye to it just yet. Go grab it readers, enjoy … Kisses.

Review: ☆On The Way Home☆ by Skye Warren

On the Way Home
Clint

For eight months I’ve been deep under cover as a special operator in the Army. On the plane ride home, all I want is a hot shower and a long sleep. But a Dear John text message leaves me stranded. I need a ride and a place to stay, and the pretty stewardess is more than willing.

Della

It’s supposed to be a simple trade—the passenger in seat 34B for my sister. But the sexy soldier is more than I can handle in all the best ways. He trusts me, but I can’t save him. No one can. Sometimes trouble has a way of following you home.

On the Way Home is a dark new adult romance intended for readers over eighteen.

Monsters came in all shapes and sizes. They wore custom designer suits and stewardess uniforms. They gave you a job as a stripper or went down on you to help you sleep, but those were just part of the lure. Because when you had learned to trust the monster, when you let your guard down, that’s when you got eaten.

This was my first book by Skye Warren, so I really wasn’t sure exactly what I would be going into. All I knew is that when I read that blurb, I knew I had to read this book. I’m a big fan of Dark Romance, and this sounded EXACTLY up my alley. Was it everything I thought it would be? Well….almost. Firstly, I can’t really say it was all that dark. It was more gritty. That’s not a bad thing at all, but still worth a mention.

Clint is returning home after 8 months of working deep under cover as a special operator in the Army. He doesn’t exactly have much to come back to since he received a Dear John text from his live-in girlfriend while still deployed. But he has high hopes that maybe they could still work it out…

Only to come home to see all his things packed up and to find out that she’s been cheating on him. Oh and did I mention that she’s trying to kick him out of his own place? Poor guy just can’t seem to get a break.

Luckily (or not quite so for Clint), the beautiful stewardess that caught his eye on the plane comes to his rescue.

Della is not at all what she appears to be, and her intentions towards Clint are anything but innocent. She’s supposed to be doing a job, a simple trade; Clint for her sister. But her plan gets a whole lot more complicated when she begins to have feelings for the sexy soldier.

This book could have easily been a 5 star read for me, if not for a few things…

The insta-love angle
I had a tough time understanding the almost immediate connection these two share. I mean, we go from them barely exchanging a few words on a plane to him staying at her place and fucking like bunnies…

Then Clint goes and shares confidential information from his deployment with her even though he has doubts about who she really is and the secrets she hides. Good job there, Mr. Undercover Man. But I suppose that fits his character.

Clint’s submissive nature in bed. This is NOT a BDSM book, not at all, but Clint is most definitely the submissive partner in bed. That’s certainly not quite my cuppa, so I had a tough time with this one.

He had some Alpha tendencies, but sadly they pretty much got lost within all the time he submitted to Della’s MUCH more aggressive sexual nature. Though, oddly enough, it was still pretty damn hot…even if it isn’t quite my cuppa.

The sex
To be fair, I feel like I should warn readers that this book contains (highlight to view spoiler)pegging[Pegging (hide spoiler)].(Spoiler) Yes. (view spoiler)pegging.(Spoiler)As in (view spoiler)Della sporting a strap on and… holy strap on butt sex, batman! (spoiler)

It fits the book and the story, HOWEVER, it is a tad out of my comfort zone. I don’t have a huge problem with it, and it was written pretty damn hot, but it’s not a preference of mine in books.

The suspense part of the story is really what won me over. I spent a large part of the book on pins and needles just waiting for that other shoe to drop.

I really enjoyed the twist that Skye Warren added in the end. I did not see that coming at all. I think that was the very last thing I expected to happen. Della’s character was a very intriguing one to me, too. The things that she’s been through are terrible, but she had this tough core to her that I really liked. You know what she has to do, and you want to hate her for it, but yet your heart breaks for her all the same.

I found it to be more an erotic suspense than dark, but that may be because I’ve been pretty desensitized to Dark Romance, so it takes a LOT for me to label it that genre. There were dark elements here, but not many. I’d say this was more gritty than dark. At least in my opinion.

Ultimately did I enjoy this book? Yes.
Is it something that I would have read had I known in advance about Clint’s sexual submissiveness? Probably not.
Am I glad I read it? Surprisingly, yes.
Is it something I see myself re-reading in the future? Probably not

Writing style: Dual First Person POV

Skyeauthorpic
Skye Warren writes unapologetic erotica, including power play or erotic pain and sometimes dubious consent. There’s struggle in the sex. There’s pain in the relationships. Her books are raw, sexual and perversely romantic.

It wasn’t until I met Jesse Addison, a barista at the local coffee shop, that I realized I didn’t just lose Sarah that tragic night, I lost myself as well. Jesse taught me how to let go of the past and learn to love again.

But what happens when your past haunts your present and the woman you used to love refuses to accept the woman you can’t live without?

Changed my mind. I could use some sweet wildcat pussy, and you’re up. I’m calling in my debt.”
“What? You said no.”
“I said when I wanted. Choose – do I fuck you here or at your house?”

Holy mother of bookgasms. I have been a fan of Cherise Sinclair for a while, but I have to say that this is probably my favorite book by her to date…and I’m not usually big on sadists (with the exception of my favorite kinky priest). At least not the hard core one. And deVries? Well he’s as hard core as they come. But this is a Sinclair book, and after all

9645945So of course I had to read it the second it released. I was expecting a spicy little read, but what I got was so much more. There was a little suspense, action, romance, and some dirty kinky loving that will leave you so hot and bothered you’ll be panting by the time you finish the page.

That’s right,” he murmured. “You can take me.” He forged in, relentless as only the Enforcer could be, doing what he wanted for his own pleasure.
“Hurt, baby?” he asked.
“Yessssss.” Her answer came out a moan.
“Perfect.” His laugh was deep and gruff.”

7348692I have to admit, I was a little concerned when less than 10% into the book Lindsey and deVries were already thrown into bed together. I like to feel that sexual chemistry really burn before the couple comes together. When it happens too quickly, most of the time it pretty much lowers the enjoyment for me. I was afraid that this may be the case here, but deVries did not disappoint. Not long after he fucks up royally and allows his inner asshole to come out. Which of course had only one affect on me

9398673What? I happen to have a soft place in my pervy little heart for the assholes. But I digress…

Lindsey is in hiding. Fleeing a murder charge and men that want her dead in Texas, she finds herself rebuilding a life in San Francisco. She’s been unbearably attracted to deVries since she first laid eyes on him, but he’s never made any move to show he reciprocates the feelings. And besides, she’s not what he needs. She may be a submissive, but she’s certainly not a masochist. At least not up for the type of pain the deVries likes to dole out. But when the Dom finally decides to claim her? Well, what girl in her right mind could possibly turn him down? He’s sexy as fuck, and orgasm donor…and he apparently has a soft side…well, to a point, anyway

“What are you doing?”
“Sleeping. I’m wiped. Not safe to drive.”
“Oh”
He wanted to cuddle? The Enforcer?
“But-”
“Go to sleep, or you’ll spend the night gagged.

I really loved Lindsey and her Texan quirky personality. She was this perfect combination of sweet, endearing, quirky and sassy. She was the perfect match for Zander deVries’ tough and sadistic side. Did I also happen to mention that Zander is an ex Navy SEAL and mercenary?

Both Lindsey and Zander have a past that tends to color their present and the way they respond to things. They both have had their share of heartbreak, though Lindsey’s past is quite a bit darker. She’s determined to protect the people she’s come to care for from her secrets. But Zander is determined to uncover each of them.

Filled with action, hot sex, suspense, a sassy submissive and a sadist that’s determined to break through all her barriers this book will definitely leave you

9645946If you’re a fan of this series, be prepared to fall hard for Zander. Although this is part of a series, this book can easily be read as a standalone.

With your pulse like that, either you’re scared or you’re horny.” He slid his palm over her panties, ascertaining for himself exactly which it was. “Soaked.”
“I’m sorry. I’m fine. Don’t-”
“Shut it.” With pitiless hands, he tossed away the covers and flattened her onto her back. “Just as well. I didn’t get enough of a taste.”
“But-”
“You don’t wear underwear if you’re with me,” he growled. “And you don’t withhold something I want.”

9645947Any questions?

Didn’t think so 😉
