ARC Review: ☆Hot Mess☆ by @LynnRayeHarris

English professor Dr. Georgeanne Hayes has a problem. Her star pupil, an Army sergeant who works in a Top Secret government program, is missing—and someone tried to push her in front of a train last night.

Sam “Knight Rider” McKnight is used to looking out for Georgie. When they were kids, she was just his best friend’s baby sister. But Georgie’s not a baby anymore and Sam is getting some very male—and very dirty—thoughts about the girl he knows he can never have.

When someone threatens Georgie’s life again, Sam will do anything necessary to keep her safe. Even if it means spending the next few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her.

Sam might be used to denying himself what he wants, but he’s about to find out that being cooped up with Georgie will push him to the limit. And maybe beyond.

She thought he had trouble remembering she wasn’t a kid anymore. No, what he had trouble remembering was that he was no good for her. Because damn if he didn’t want her. He wanted her every possible way he could have her.

Wow! What a hot little read this was. I definitely didn’t see that coming. After reading and enjoying Hot Pursuit, I was expecting more along the lines of that book. And it was…mostly. If you’re looking for a nail biting romantic suspense, that’s not quite what you’ll get her. This was light on the suspense and action but verra high on the steam. You certainly won’t be getting many complaints from me. This was the perfect short and steamy little read to spend my Saturday night with.

Georgeanne was Texas money, debutante balls, exclusive sororities and country club all the way. She knew which fork to use, what to wear to any event- and she used bone china for her morning coffee.
He was nothing but a poor kid from a dysfunctional family.

12 years ago Georgeanne was hopelessly in love with Sam McKnight, her older brother’s best friend. Sam was used to see her as his friend’s annoying little sister, until one night changed everything. But Sam also knows that he’s not good enough for Georgie. He’s the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and she’s the beautiful and innocent southern belle.

Now Georgeanna is and English professor coming off of a recent divorce after her husband cheated on her. The last person she expects to see on her doorstop is Sam, who’s been sent by her brother to check on her. When they see each other again, all those pent up sexual feelings begin to resurface again.

Georgie never hid the fact that she wants Sam, and she’s not exactly shy about showing that it hasn’t changed with the years that have passed. But Sam fights the attraction between them, knowing he’s not good enough for her. But when Georgie’s life is threatened, he’s determined to protect her. And when these two are thrown together in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, sparks begin to fly. Sam may be determined to stay away from her, but there’s only so long he can fight it for. And when Sam does give in, holy hell but does he give in.

I do want you, Georgie. I’ve wanted you since that night twelve years ago. I want to spread you out beneath me and make you come so many times you can’t do it anymore. I want to taste your pussy and feel your legs wrapped around me as I pound into you. I want to see you swallow my cock and hear you cry out in ecstasy.

He was deep inside Georgeanne Hayes, the perfect little princess of his teenage years, and he wanted to corrupt her utterly. He wanted to possess her and make her scream his name. He wanted to imprint himself on her so thoroughly she’d never forget this night with him.

The suspense part of the book was mainly lost in the background of the story of two childhood friends reuniting and giving into the chemistry between them. I was hoping for a little more action, at least in the end, but that never happened. I found the ending a little too perfect and glossed over. The other thing keeping this from being 5 stars was Sam’s constant self esteem issue. He was always dwelling on how he wasn’t good enough for Sam, no matter how hard she tried to show him she didn’t care about that. It did get slightly frustrating at times.

I still really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it for those looking for a quick and steamy little read with some suspense thrown into the mix. This can easily be read as a standalone, as neither of these characters appeared in the first book (that I remember) and there was plenty of background given that nothing is lost. I’ve become a big fan of this series, and if you like steamy Romantic Suspense, I’d recommend reading this series in order. The men of HOT are definitely worth meeting, and I can’t wait to dive into Dangerously Hot

ARC Review: Sex and the Single Vamp by @RobinCovington

Cici Trent, vampire and media darling, spends her days finding true love for humans and supernaturals (the “Others”) at her dating agency. But someone is trying to sabotage her business and she needs help. Unfortunately, the best man for the job is the one who broke her still-beating heart two hundred fifty-four years ago.

Deacon is a patient vampire. He’s only loved one woman in over three hundred years— CiCi— and she chose another. So when she shows up in his office asking for help, he finally has the chance to lay that demon to rest. He’ll help her, but for a price—a night in his bed.

Adrenaline, mischief, and a little late-night B&E light the passion that even a couple of lifetimes couldn’t put out. But Deacon has a secret and when Cici is suddenly mortal, his deception might be the only way restore her immortality. Can love bridge the gap between a heartbeat and forever?

4 Sexy Vamp Stars

You. Wet and willing. In my bed.

Anything less than that and I will go mad. You get me?”
She nodded. “Yes. I get you.”

Well, well, well, Miss Covington, looks like you got yourself a hot little PNR book here.

Whenever an author whose books I’ve loved comes out with a different genre, I’m always a little hesitant to pick it up. It doesn’t always transition well and there’s not many authors I can name that have successfully done so. But when Robin offered me an ARC of this book, I’ll be honest, I was pretty much sold at the title. Now color me surprised when I started reading this book and realized that it’s not just a sexy cover and a clever title.

Felicity “Cici” Trent and Thomas “Deacon” have a very long history together…and I mean long as in over 250 years long. A misunderstanding all those years ago left both of them brokenhearted. Deacon broke Cici’s heart by walking away, and Deacon believed that she wanted another man.

For 250 years they’ve been dancing around each other and their feelings. Now talk about your pent up sexual tension.

But when Cici finds her business being threatened she knows there’s no other man that she trusts to get down to the bottom of things more so than Deacon. So what if she still equal parts hates him and wants him? She’ll do what she has to do to protect her business.

Deacon never got over the woman that broke his heart. He no longer believes in love after the only woman that he’s loved didn’t want him. But he’s all about satisfying this burning hunger he has for her, and he’s all about using any means possible to get it

I’ll help you, but we can’t keep playing these games with each other.”
“Meaning?”
“Meaning we’ve danced around the issue of ‘us’ for about two hundred years too long. While we work together, I want us to explore each other. Up close and personal. In bed. THat would be more than adequate payment.”
“And if I don’t agree?”
“I’ll help you. Free of charge. But I’ll probably be an asshole.” He shrugged. “Blue balls make me cranky.”

What a coincidence, Deacon!

Well, of the lady blue balls variety anyway. Luckily Deacon delivered on the promise and then some. The chemistry between the two of them was hot, but nothing compared to when they finally get together. Because that was SCORCHING!

Deacon,” Cici said in warning. She clawed at the covers, unable to stand much teasing as her legs began to shake with the slow build of her craving. “Don’t tease. That’s not nice.”
“I never said I would be nice.” He laughed darkly, driving into her deeper but not quite enough. “I only said I would make you come.”

When Deacon finds out that it’s not only her business that’s in trouble, but her life as well, he knows that he will stop at absolutely nothing to protect her.

I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and sexy, and I really liked the clever world building and the “Other” characters that were introduced. This had a little bit of everything to make for a perfect sexy PNR read; action, suspense, steam, and one deliciously domineering and hot vampire.

Cici was a strong and sassy heroine and definitely gave as good as she got.

So why not 5 stars? I suppose it may have been the length of the book for me. I didn’t quite have enough time to truly get invested in Cici and Deacon’s relationship. I wished for a little more buildup. Don’t get me wrong, I was invested enough to read this book in one sitting 🙂 But I think that a longer book would have worked a bit better for me.

I really hope that Robin will make this into a series, as I’m practically salivating for a book for both Mya and Andy.

If you enjoy fun and sexy PNR reads, definitely don’t hesitate to one-click on this one. You won’t be left disappointed 😉

Review: ☆Masquerade☆ by Nyrae Dawn

A biker. A tattoo artist. A love to last a lifetime.

Maddox Cross has always had to be tough. When his father went to jail for murder, the teenager took care of his sister and mother. Now on his own and working security at a night club, Maddox wants to become a tattoo artist-a dream that comes closer to reality when he falls for the hottest, most tatted woman he’s ever seen. She’s wild and beautiful, and Maddox will do anything to be with her.

Bee Malone came to town to open up her new tattoo parlor, Masquerade. Since being kidnapped as a young girl, Bee has had trouble getting close to anyone. But when she meets Maddox, she sees that under his hard biker’s body is the sensitive soul of an artist. What starts out as a sizzling one-night stand soon becomes so much more.

Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .

4 Stars

You can pretend all you want that you’ve never been hurt before and that you’ve never lost anything, but I will continue to call bullshit. Loss is loss. It’s not a contest about who’s been hurt more. We all have our battles to fight.”

While I can’t say that this was my favorite book in the series, it was still a fantastic addition. Facadecontinues to hold the number one place in my heart so far.

I was so excited to get my hands on this book since meeting Maddox as Laney’s brooding older brother in book 2. I just knew that behind the mysterious broodiness lies the soul of a broken man, and I couldn’t wait to uncover all his secrets. Does that sound deep? Because what I meant to say is that the second I read tattoos and motorcycle my inner dirty girl was throwing her panties at my kindle. See? That doesn’t sound half as good as what I said before. What can I say? A girl’s got a type, and mine just happen to be tatted up, motorcycle riding bad boys.

The first half of the book got off to a rocky start for me. It took me a while to really get into the story and feel the connection between Bree and Maddox. I think in part that has to do with how quickly they got together. (And I do mean quickly, since clothes started flying in the first 5%) I simply couldn’t feel their connection. I read that they were drawn to one another…I just couldn’t connect to it, if that even makes sense. I was almost afraid that one of my favorite NA series may turn into a DNF. But then something changed right around the halfway point and I found myself getting more and more drawn into the story. I’d give the first half 3 stars and 5 stars for the second, rounding it to a solid 4 star read.

Both Bree and Maddox are closed off for their own reasons, and each of those reasons are absolutely heart breaking.

Maddox struggles with the guilt of the part that he played in his father’s affair and ultimate breakdown of everything that followed it. He doesn’t feel like he deserves anything, especially not love. After all, he was weak, not strong enough to do what needed to be done…or so he thinks.

The only thing that truly drives him is his desire to be a tattoo apprentice. Drawing and tattoos allow him an escape, if only for a little while, from his daily reality. Maddox gets the shock of a lifetime when he discovers the only tattoo shop in town is owned by the girl he spent one passionate night with…with no thoughts of later.

Bree is not looking for love either, she doesn’t even know what it is. She may appear whole on the outside, have parents that love and support her, and her own business, but inside she’s just a lost girl. Struggling with a past that has broken her and her belief in love, she merely takes life day to day.

As different as these two feel they may be from each other, they share a bond that neither of them want to face.

Brutal honesty is underrated and I can see he has it, like I do. If I were a different kind of girl- the kind who believed in love- Maddox would be the guy that I’d fall for. Though I guess if I really wasn’t me, he probably wouldn’t be what I’d want.

Although both of them fight the emotional connection between them as much as they can, the one thing that they can’t seem to fight is the sexual pull between them.

And they don’t exactly try to fight that all that much.

Stop making me want you.” The same heat from his eyes in now in his words.
“Stop letting me have you,” I reply, and it seems to inflame him more.

As much as I struggled with the first half of this book, I absolutely devoured the second half. That was when the emotional intensity that I’ve come to associate with this series and Nyrae’s writing really shined through. My heart broke for both Maddox and Bee with each new detail of their past coming to light. It was poignant and even gut wrenching at time. The part where Maddox finally talks with Adrian, I’m pretty sure it managed to bring a tear even to my cold and black little heart. It was that good.

Fans of the series will really enjoy this one, and if you’re like me and struggle in the beginning, I strongly recommend pushing through since it will be worth it in the end.

While you can easily read this book as a standalone, I’d highly recommend reading Facade first to get a better understanding of the story’s background and a better understanding of Maddox. But if you want to go ahead and just dive into this one without reading Facade, the author gives you plenty of background information that you wouldn’t be lost.

If you’re a fan of steamy NA with broken characters, a poignantly written story, and a hero who you will equal parts love and feel like your heart is breaking for, definitely give this one a try.

Gregoire and Alyssa – Ecstasy Claimed
She was wide open, her knees straddling his thighs, her bottom against his stomach.  She circled her hips, thriving on the stretching sensation of being taken.  He flipped her hair to one side and pulled her bare back against his heaving chest.  His tongue and lips caressed her neck, and gooseflesh rose all over her arms.  He angled her head so he had the access he needed as she moved on him.  His hands massaged her hips up to her swollen breasts.
Do you like being open and on display for anyone that might come up to the house?
Desire flooded her at his words and the implication.  She was spread and impaled on his cock, her back tight to his chest, as he caressed her in front of the open windows.  No one was around, but the idea was there, and it made her hot.

I can feel that you do.  Imagine all they would see.  Your bare pussy sucking my cock deep as I lift your breasts and play with your pretty nipples.
His lips and tongue were at her neck, and her movements were frantic as she tried to lift up and ride him.
The only movement he allowed was the grinding of her hips and ass.  She pushed hard, trying for more, when one of his hands left a breast and gave a sharp smack to her mound.  She jumped at the unexpected action.  It hadn’t hurt; the slight sting moved quickly into delicious warmth.

You like when I slap your pussy, Angel?  Like the sting?  He spread his thighs beneath her, forcing her knees wider.  Look out the window and imagine what they’d see.  Your beautiful body spread wide, my cock buried deep inside your pussy, and your mound pink from my hand. Another sharp smack landed.  This one lower, right against her clit.  She cried out; she needed to come and almost did as heat flooded her.  They’d see you come as I slap your pussy and mark your skin as mine, and only mine.  They’d watch what only I can do to you.  They’d know you were mine in every way.
Review4 stars

It was your beautiful green eyes I saw every fucking time in the last five years. You were a hunger that ate at my gut every fucking day. Now that I have you, it’s even more intense. It’s not enough to have you. My beast wants the world to know you’re mine. It’s making me obsessed with showing the world you’re mine.

Do you like crazy hot PNR books. I’m talking CRAZY HOT. Several panty changes during the book hot. Leave you screaming

 Hot?

Well, my friends, then you need to introduce yourselves to the deliciously kinky world of The Guadians of The Realms.

Setta Jay does a great job with retelling details from the past book without sounding redundant, so you can easily read this as a standalone. However, I would highly recommend reading the series in order since many characters are introduced early on and it helps you develop a better understanding of them.

In Ecstasy Claimed we get the story of Gregoire, Uri’s manwhorish friend that we first meet in Ecstasy Unbound.

Only problem with his manwhoring ways? Turns out he’s had a mate for 25 years that he was waiting to claim once she’s reached her maturity. But hey, a manwhore has has needs 🙂

Alyssa has always been the good daughter and the good girl. But when she comes to terms with the fact that her destined mate doesn’t seem to want her, she decides to really start living her life. First thing on the menu? Relieve herself of her pesky virginity.

I really enjoy Setta’s unique world building in this series. She definitely writes some sadistic asshole villains, so be prepared for that.

As for the story, I enjoyed this one even more than the first book. I was happy to see Sam and Erik get their HEA. My heart broke for everything that Sam went through in the previous book, and I loved how gentle and caring Erik was with her.

To say that it was scorching hot would be an understatement. At times I even found myself asking if there was almost too much sex.

(pause for dramatic gasps)

Yes, this does happen to me some times believe it or not. But the story drew me in enough that I was able to overlook this.

My few minor quibbles keeping this from a 5 star?

There’s a scene around the 20% mark that I’m not quite sure how I feel about. Warning, there’s a MFFM scene here. Alyssa goes from a good girl virgin, to getting one hell of a lesson in oral pleasure. Now given the context of the book, this wasn’t THAT far out of the realm of belief. BUT, and this is a big but, I couldn’t match the girl that was portrayed to this wanton one that was jumping into an experience like this. Not to say that scene wasn’t hot as fuck, but it just didn’t fit the story for me.

I was hoping for a little bit more characterization on Gregoire. There were bits and pieces given during their bonding scene, but I would have loved a little more. He was such a enigma to me in book 1 and I wanted to know more about his past.

All that aside, I really enjoyed the second installment and I’ve definitely become a fan of this series. I love how even though you have the “mate” element, there is no insta-love present. I also really like Setta’s writing and world building. I seem to get more and more sold on this series with each new book and I cannot wait until book 3 and the big bad Dorian to get his story. I’ve been curious about him from the beginning and from the sounds of it his mate will be giving him a run for his money.

About the Author
The sad truth is that I’m not nearly as entertaining as fiction. *Wink* I am a thirty-seven year old stay at home writer, thanks to my incredibly supportive husband.  We’ve been together for thirteen years and I still love waking up next to that sexy man.  We lost our furry child recently, so we are childless at the moment.  Our whole world revolved around her.  Needless to say, I love animals, especially dogs.  Okay, maybe not all animals, I’m not a super big fan of monkeys.  Any animal that throws their feces kind of eeks me out.  I may, or may not, have a problem with candy.  I love any research that leads to Neiman Marcus’ online shoe department. Spreadsheets give me way more happiness than they should.  I love to read, the dirtier the better. It all started with the naughty historical romances by Judith McNaught that I devoured as a teenager.  I love reading about hot, sexy alpha males and heroines that are smart enough to live.

He thought I owned him. He thought he loved me, that I was enough. But this animal, this sex god who could drive me crazy and steal my heart in the same breath, he would never fully be mine. It was impossible. No one ever owned a God…
One year. I have one year to find out more about this man I am marrying. More about his family. More about our sex, and all of the dirty, delicious places it will take me.
I thought I’d spend this year making a decision. I never thought the decision would be taken from me, snatched right from my naive little hands.

He thought I owned him. He thought he loved me, that I was enough. But this animal, this sex god who could drive me crazy and steal my heart in the same breath, he would never be full mine. It was impossible. No one ever owned a god.

If there’s one thing that I am absolutely convinced of after finishing this book, is that Alessandra Torre can write. I mean, she can write. Her writing is always able to wring a multitude of feelings and emotions from me, and this book was the perfect conclusion to an amazing trilogy.

If you have not read the first two books, DO NOT read this review. It will contain spoilers of the previous books but I will try not an revealing anything important from this one.

End of the Innocence takes off right where book two left off. Brad and Julia are now engaged and planning a wedding. But the threat of being engaged to the son of one of the biggest mafia families in town is still looming over Julia’s head. Brad knows that he will do anything to protect her. You can literary feel his love for Julia flowing through every page. Alessandra has a gift for combing equal parts of eroticism and pure emotion in her books, and this was no different here.

It’s not all sunshine and butterflies for these two however. Not everyone is happy about their engagement or supportive of it. Julia has to deal with the fallback not only from the office, but from her friends and family as well. But that doesn’t slow down their sex life in the least.

Julia really grows into her own as the woman that is meant to be by Brad’s side. I loved that Alessandra stayed true to her characters and didn’t all of a sudden make them a purely vanilla couple that no longer enjoys the thrill of adding a third person to the mix. This book was probably the hottest of the 3 as far as the steam went. Brad doesn’t hold back and Julia is certainly no wilting wallflower when it comes to taking what she wants. I have 2 words for you: Brad’s birthday. You’ll see what I mean.

But try as you might to sit back and enjoy this couple finally finding a sort of normalcy in their relationship, there’s a layer of dread that hangs over your head the entire time. The prologue of this book sets a dark undertone, but you don’t know when it will happen. I spent the entire time reading sitting on pins and needles waiting for that shoe to drop and all hell to break loose. You’re kept guessing the entire time. I think that this really added to the book as a whole, as I don’t think I would have been quite as drawn to the story otherwise.

As for the ending…well I definitely won’t be giving anything away. I can tell you that I struggled a little with how I felt about it. On the one hand I wished for things to be more resolved and to have a bit more closure on certain things. On the other hand, I can understand that to wrap it up in a perfect little bow would not have been true to the characters or realistic as a story. There was a wonderful epilogue and I highly recommend reading the bonus scene that the author includes for that additional icing on top.

Review: Tied With Me (With Me in Seattle, # 6) by Kristen Proby

“At once wildly sensual and heart-clutchingly tender, this series gets better with every book.” – Christina Lauren, New York Times Bestselling authors of BEAUTIFUL BASTARD

A man whose lifestyle is so different from her own…

Nic Dalton’s cupcake bakery is thriving. She serves both rock stars and locals alike, content with her growing business. But one adventurous night out with her best friend, Bailey, turns her life upside down. She meets a handsome stranger who makes her skin sizzle and her heart race. Their one night together is explosive and unexpected, but when he has to suddenly leave without taking her phone number, Nic resigns herself to never seeing him again.

…What will it take to trust and submit to his every desire?

Matt Montgomery is one of Seattle’s finest. He works hard, loves and protects his family fiercely, and is loyal almost to a fault.

And he has a penchant for bondage.

Matt enjoys the way a woman looks wrapped up in his ropes, and makes no apologies for his preferences. When he meets Nic at a fetish festival, the small, beautiful woman catches his eye, drawing him to her. His one night with her was everything he’s ever looked for in a partner, but is cut short because of a family emergency. Even before he sees her again weeks later, he knows he’ll never get her out of his system.
And he’ll do whatever it takes to make her his.

“Give in to this, Nic. Let me prove to you that I will be one of the best decisions you ever make.” –Matt Montgomery

What I expected:
What I got:
Moral of the story?

This series has been hit or miss for me. While I loved
Rock with Me (With Me in Seattle, #4)
, I wasn’t particularly fond of the rest of the books. I suppose I need to be in the mood for a fluffy read and sometimes it works…and other times it doesn’t. But here’s the thing; BDSM and Fluffy? NOT a good mix.

I originally DNF’d this at 50%, but then some newly formed OCD (I blame you Mirjana and Crystal!!!) and a hint of masochism forced me to finish this.

Here’s the thing, just because BDSM has been mainstreamed doesn’t mean that every author is able to write it. And if you are going to write it? Don’t gloss it over or tip toe around it, do the genre some justice. Now maybe I’m a kinky bitch, maybe I’m a picky bitch. Whatever the case may be, as much as I was anticipating this book after the sneak peek in the last one, I was left grossly disappointed.

WARNING: Rage-y spoilers below

So we have Nic. Nic is a straight laced vanilla girl. Nic doesn’t do kinky. Nic is certainly not submissive. But Nic goes to an Erotic Ball (of the BDSM variety) with her friend. And within a few minutes, straight laced Nic allows a total stranger to tie her up in a demonstration. Said stranger then tells her he’d like to fuck the shit out of her. So she lets him take her home still tied up in the ropes!! Oh, but it’s OK, because he tells her he’s not an ax murderer.

In case you’re curious, said stranger is good old kinky Matt. He likes his sex dirty with a bit of bondage mixed in. Oh and Matt is a Master Dom. A TRAINED Master Dom. Matt also says this

In clubs, safe words are mandatory, so if we ever go to one together, your word will be ‘red.’ The second you say ‘red,’ everything stops, no questions asked. But, honestly, the way I feel about safe words is, you shouldn’t need one with me. It’s my job to learn what you can handle and what you can’t, and I’m a firm believer in ‘no means no.’”

No shit? Really?

Apparently Master Matt is also a mind reader on top of his Shibari skills. Oh and of course, scening only happens in BDSM clubs. No need for a safe word when you’re doing a scene outside of one…

Now Matt is not exactly a hearts and flowers forever type of guy. His other family members may have married off, but he’s not planning on changing his status any time soon.

But then a few short days and some awesome sex later…BAM! The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and the hills are alive with the L-words. Does he really know her? Not really. So I just have 2 questions here

As for Nic. Nic was the most contradictory character I’ve ever read about. She says that she’s vanilla and straight laced, but lets a total stranger tie her up and then take her home. She says she’s shy, but then on another occasion lets Matt strip her in front of strangers at a BDSM club and then tie her up again.

All the while Master Matt decides he’s too possessive of her to have others see her naked or touch her, so no more BDSM club for them. He’ll still tie her up and shit and maybe throw in a spanking here or there.

Matt was not a Dom in my opinion. He was a man with a kink for bondage. I think had this book not brought the whole BDSM factor into it, it would have worked much better. The character’s actions did not match the way they’re described.

Nic is brooding away because for some mysterious reason she doesn’t think she’s good enough for Matt. Little by little we find out what that reason is. But does she tell Matt? Fuck no. She loves him too much to hurt him and doesn’t think she’s good enough for him. So what does she do? Leaves him without saying one word.

Of course they work it out in the end and there’s flowers and rainbows shooting out of unicorn asses all that jazz. As for my thoughts at this point?

I can tell you I will very likely be in the minority with my opinion. I know a lot of my Goodreads friends really loved this one. But this particular kinky bitch has been spoiled by the Cherise Sinclair’s, Lexi Blake’s, Kallypso Masters’ and the likes. So suffice it to say, this book did not do it for me.

If you like fluffy romances with a little kink thrown in, you’d really enjoy this one. As for me, I think I’m done with this series.

There are two kinds of people in the world. The ones who look first, and the ones who leap. I’ve always been more of a looker. Cautious. A planner. That changed after I met Drew Evans. He was so persistent. So sure of himself – and of me.

But not all love stories end happily ever after. Did you think Drew and I were going to ride off into the sunset? Join the club. Now I have to make a choice, the most important of my life. Drew already made his –in fact, he tried to decide for the both of us. But you know that’s just not my style. So I came back to Greenville. Alone. Well, sort of alone….

What I’ve come to realize is that old habits die hard and sometimes you have to go back to where you began, before you can move ahead.

TWISTED picks up two years after Tangled’s end, and is told from Kate’s POV.

3.5 Stars

You know that saying, “It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?”
That’s a crock. Whoever said it didn’t know a fucking thing about love. Ignorance is better; it’s painless.”

And truthfully, after the 35% mark, I’d rather have had the pie…

Last we saw Kate and Drew, they were together and basking in lots of post coital glow. I wasn’t really sure why a second book was necessary, but I loved Tangled and Emma Chase’s writing, so there was no question about me reading this one.

Now in reading that quote, you’re probably confused about what happens in this book for such a sharp turn around to be taken, right? And you’re now expecting me to tell you what happens, right?

Well dream on! Cause I’m not doing it. I’m sadistic like that, what can I say?

Let’s just say that Drew screws up. BIG TIME. And by big time, I mean he left me wondering

Tangled is told entirely in Kate’s POV. I was a little worried that nothing could possibly beat the awesomeness that was Drew in book 1. And you know what? You really can’t. But Kate’s POV came pretty damn close. Add in all the characters from the previous book, and there were plenty of laugh out loud moments,

Everyone- can I have your attention, please? Mackenzie has an announcement she’d like to make”
“My mom and dad had sex!”
The entire table is silent.
Until Matthew raises his glass.
“Congratulations, Steven. It’s like Halley’s Comet, right? You only get to come ever seventy-five years?”

I loved the first 35% of the book. I couldn’t get enough of it. And then somewhere after the 40% mark, it started to irritate me.

See, here’s the thing. I love angst in books. I’m a regular angst whore. But what I absolutely don’t like is manufactured drama.

What we have here is a HUGE misunderstanding that spans practically the entire book where all that can resolve it is one word. You’re probably thinking now. Wait!

One word? YES. One word.

As much as I wanted to lay the blame solely on Drew’s shoulders, I couldn’t. Because Kate was equal parts responsible for it.

Truthfully, it just felt way too drawn out.

But saying all that, I still liked the book quite a bit. I just didn’t love it. It was great catching up with all my favorite characters from the last book, and I’m practically salivating for Delores and Matthew’s story after the little teaser at the end of this one.

I loved getting more Drew and Kate, but I’m not sure that a full length book was really necessary here. I could have done with a novella. But hey, that’s just my opinion here.

Review: Lovely Trigger (Tristan & Danika # 3) by R.K. Lilley

THE IMPACT

Tristan hit rock bottom, and no one felt the impact harder than Danika. She was forced to see, in the most brutal of ways, that love does not conquer all. Bruised, bloody, and broken she had to walk away.

THE AFTERMATH

Picking up the pieces of your life after a tragedy is a daunting prospect, and that’s considering you still own all of the pieces. But what if you don’t? What if someone else owns those pieces, and those pieces are a part of your soul?

You dig deep and work with what you’ve got.

That’s what Danika told herself and believed, every single day, for years.

Tristan and Danika’s love had failed every test that life had thrown at them. She couldn’t forget that, not for one second. And if those tests had been overly harsh, well, she wasn’t one to wallow in self-pity. The failure was the thing she had to focus on. The failure was the lesson. She had no intention of working so hard to make it out of hell without learning that lesson well.

4.25 Second Chance Stars

He’d set me adrift, so very long ago, and I had wandered into deepest waters, with depths far too vast for me to navigate alone.
And here he was, swimming out to save me. Had he been following me all the while? Had I been so blind?

What a perfect conclusion to the trilogy. It was emotional, angsty, erotic, everything you would want in a book. I waited until book 3 was out to read the 2nd and ended up reading them back to back.

In Lovely Trigger we find Danika slowly begin to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and shattered dreams. She has a job at James Cavendish’s art gallery, and while she can’t dance anymore, she gets by. As much as she tries to move on emotionally, she can never seem to fully forget the man that will always hold her heart.

I convinced myself that it had all been passion, not true love.  True love was a myth, a misdirection from the solid things in life.  What I’d felt for Tristan had been big and all consuming, but I told myself, like a mantra in my head, that it had never been solid.   Even so, every little thing brought him to mind.  We’d had too much together, been through too much, felt too much, and every feeling had a memory.

She tries to move on, but no one ever compares to Tristan.

Tristan is dealing with his own demons. After hitting rock bottom, he’s slowly but surely trying to climb his way out. He’s gotten clean, a job as a magician in the Cavendish casino, but still the memory of Danika haunts him. He’s riddled with guilt; for the things that he remembers and the things that he doesn’t recall from his drugged out haze. Just reading about everything he went through after what happened in book 2 hit me right in the feels

I didn’t trust myself, Danika. I needed my sobriety. I’m nothing without it, and you were a lovely trigger for me.  That look in your eyes, after all that I’d done…The way you looked at me like I was scum and knowing that I deserved all of your antipathy. I knew that if you looked at me like that again, I’d hit rock bottom, and this time I wouldn’t come back from it.”

I kept waiting for their reunion, knowing that when these two cross paths it will be explosive. And holy shit was it!

The world stopped as we took what we needed, what I’d been starved for since the very last time I’d been in his arms.   It was a frenzied mating, a swift coming together that took me to the fever pitch of ecstasy with a few rough, heavy strokes, over too soon, the perfect testament to our torrid love affair.

I loved the way that Tristan works to get back into Danika’s heart again. You can feel his pain and heartache through the pages. As much as I wanted to hate him after the end of book 2, my heart went out to him. That’s the beauty of a book written in dual first person POVs.

Love doesn’t let you walk away clean. Love is messy. I don’t have to tell you, of all people; Love takes a fucking piece of you before it’s done.”

There was plenty of things stacked against them; their past, the secrets Danika still keeps, and their present. On a side note, Mona…

This was not as angsty as book 2, thankfully, but still packed a hell of a punch.

(When Danika finally reveals everything that happened that night to Tristan and reading his reaction? Gut-wrenching.)

But then there was that ending. Perfection. Not gonna lie, it brought a tear to my cold and black little heart. It was that good.

Why not 5 stars?
There were some things that I wanted a little more resolution for. I’m a picky bitch, what can I do?
(After everything that happened with Danika and her sister, I wanted to see what happened with their relationship. I don’t remember her being mentioned after that whole Tristan fiasco. I loved that she had her half-brother now, but some resolution with Dahlia would have been great.)[After everything that happened with Danika and her sister, I wanted to see what happened with their relationship. Aside from that very minor thing, I loved the book. Trilogies are not something I read as I tend to grow bored with the same couple after 2 books. TO be honest, when I saw that there was going to be 3 books instead of the 2 that I had assumed, I almost didn’t read it. (I blame my book ADD) But after reading these books I can definitely understand the necessity of it being stretched into 3. The story would not have been the same in just 2 books. Considering that this is my 2nd trilogy that I finished, it tells you something. If you love angsty, emotional, break-your-heart-then-put-it-back-together-with-a-cherry-on-top love stories, you need to read this.

Review: Rock Bottom (Tristan & Danika # 2) by R. K. Lilley

Their love had the power of a runaway freight train, and the potential to be just as destructive.

The tempestuous sequel to Bad Things picks up where the first book left off. Reeling from a profound loss, Tristan and Danika struggle to pick up the pieces and build a life together, but the hard habits of a lifetime are not so easy to escape.
Rock Bottom takes us on a dual point of view journey through addiction and desire, through love and agony, and answers the question we’ve been asking since these characters were introduced in Grounded: “What happened between Tristan and Danika?”

DANIKA

Even love couldn’t cushion a fall like ours. My love for Tristan was so big that I felt consumed by it, and even so, it was not enough to overpower our combined demons.
I struggled. I yelled and screamed. I scratched and kicked.
I fought like hell, but even the most determined fighters have to stop before they break.
No one could say I didn’t fight for him.
“I love you,” I spoke softly into his ear.
He gripped me harder. “I can’t ever lose you, Danika. I’m not sure I’d survive it.”
“You’ve got me. And I’m not going anywhere. Not ever.”
I meant the words when I said them, but life had other plans for us.
I’d have given my life for that fight. In fact, I very nearly did.

TRISTAN
She was the one.
If I’d ever had a doubt, I didn’t now. She was the one I’d be thinking about, longing for, until I took my last breath. If I lost her tomorrow, I’d pine for her like a lovesick fool.
This was the kind of love that only hit you once in your life. This book is intended for readers 18 and up.

5 Devastating Stars

There was an anchor, tied around both of his ankles, and it was taking him deep, into black fathomless depths, drowning him slowly but surely.

I didn’t tell him that he was dragging me down with him.

Sweet mother of angst. THIS BOOK. Gah! This fucking book. I knew it was coming. I prepared myself…at least I thought I did. But nothing, I mean nothing could have prepared me for the full emotional roller coaster that was the last 40% of this book. I can tell you one thing; thank FUCK I waited for book 3 to be out to finally read this, because I’m pretty sure I would have gone from batshit straight into crazyville after that ending.

Their love had the power of a runaway freight train, and the potential to be just as destructive.

Rock Bottom starts where Bad Things left off; Tristan and Danika are dealing with the grief after Tristan’s brother died. They both have their own demons that they’re fighting, but they’re fighting them together. You can feel the connection that they have through the pages. You want so bad for them to be happy and be okay, but in the back of your mind you know that there’s a darkness that’s looming over their relationship. You know it’s coming, you know it will be bad, but you have no idea when. I swear, I think I was holding my breath in anticipation through the whole book.

I love you,” I spoke softly into his ear.
He gripped me harder. “I can’t ever lose you, Danika. I’m not sure I’d survive it.”
“You’ve got me.  And I’m not going anywhere. Not ever.”

I meant the words when I said them, but life had other plans for us.

The odds were stacked against them from the beginning and as much as you’re dreading for that moment to come, you know it’s inevitable. I think that’s what made this book so good, in a sadistic sort of way. That anticipation of not if but when.

Slowly you see Tristan spiral out of control more and more. Danika tries to help him, and your heart breaks along with her watching him sink deeper and deeper into darkness.

Even love couldn’t cushion a fall like ours. My love for Tristan was so big that I felt consumed by it, and even so, it was not enough to overpower our combined demons.

I finished this in one sitting. I simply couldn’t put it down. I knew that whatever goes down between them is going to be bad. I just don’t think I was prepared for just how bad it would be. My god! That ending! Everything that happens! Danika! Tristan! Gah!!
(view spoiler)[

Know that I would take it all back if I could, and know that I hold myself responsible for all of the bad things that happened. I am so sorry that my hitting rock bottom the way I did impacted you. Any recompense you can imagine, anything you would ask of me, I would be happy to provide. I’m at your service. Always, Danika.  And it is my most sincere wish that someday, perhaps over time, you might consider being my friend again.

(hide spoiler)]
Damn that ending. Damn it!!!

Now if you’ll excuse me, my sleep deprived ass will diving into book 3, which I’ve been told has some major groveling. And you all know how much I love me a good grovel. And I thank you

Review: Lick (Stage Dive, # 1) by Kylie Scott

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride

4 It Can Only Happen In Vegas Stars

Love isn’t always smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful. Doesn’t mean it isn’t still the most incredible thing that can ever happen to you.

OK, show of hands, ever wake up after a night out only to tell yourself you’re never drinking again?

Now what if you woke up the next day with a hangover from hell and zero memories of the night before, only to discover you’re married to a rockstar and sporting a five carat diamond to boot?

That’s precisely the predicament that 21 year old Evelyn Thomas finds herself in. Though as far as predicaments go, can’t say I feel all that bad for her. All she wanted to do was celebrate her 21st birthday with a bang (and I do mean a bang). Her first sexual encounter leaves a lot to be desired and what’s a girl left to do but to get wild and crazy in Vegas and pick up a man to rectify it. Turns out the man she picks up just so happens to be the guitarist for the wildly popular band, Stage Dive. And while Evylyn can’t seem to recall anything from the previous night, David doesn’t seem to suffer from the same.

The story is told entirely in Evelyn’s first person POV. Evelyn’s quirkiness endeared me to her pretty much right away. She describes herself as being bigger boned girl, but she never harps on this. She’s not crazy insecure about her body, which to be honest was a breath of fresh air from the usual heroines I read about. I also loved the interaction between her and David

How far did we go that night?”
His gaze dropped to the neck of my tank top and the curves of my breasts. “Second base.”
“Shirt on?”
“Off. We were both topless. Topless cuddles are the best.”

What started off as a crazy night, slowly begins to lead to something much more.

You asked me this morning in the car if I thought you were scary. The answer is yes. You scare me shitless. I don’t know what I’m doing here. But I hate the thought of leaving you.”

As far as Rock star Romances go, I’d say this one was on the tamer side…at least for me. I also found it a bit too insta-lovey for my tastes. But then again my tastes do run towards the more ansty variety. I really enjoyed the story of Evelyn and David. There were sweet moments, steamy moments, and many laugh out loud moments.

I was going to kill him. Slowly. Strangle him with the overpriced thong. A fitting death for a rock star.

I loved Evelyn’s internal monologue. She was quirky and funny and some of the things that came out of her mouth should have left me rolling my eyes but instead I found myself laughing and just liking her even more.

He didn’t have much of a belly button. It was basically a small indent followed by a fine trail of dark hair leading down across his flat stomach directly to it. And it was hard, thick, and long.
It being his penis, of course.
Gah. No, that didn’t sound right.
His cock. Yeah, much better.

And if you’re wondering about the steaminess of this book, rest assured there’s plenty of steam to appease your pervy little hearts.

While I really liked both the hero and heroine in this book, many times Mal stole the show for me. I fell for him the first time he called Ev “child bride”. I cannot wait for his book. But the story I’m REALLY dying for is Jimmy’s. That sounds like it’s going to be right up my angst-whore alley.

It may not have been a perfect 5 star read for me, but it was a very solid 4 stars. If you like steamy rock star romances with an endearing heroine, a sexy tatted rock star, and a light and easy plot, then one-click away on this. No crazy angst or crazy situations found here. Just a light and easy read about 2 unlikely people falling in love.
