Rock Addiction (Rock Kiss #1)

RELEASE DATE: September 9th, 2014

A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…

Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.

A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…

Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

Fox hadn’t become the lead singer of one of the best-selling rock bands in history by being a shrinking violet. No, he went after what he wanted, no holds barred. And the raw promise he could feel between him and Molly? He had to know where it would lead, the need so strong he hadn’t felt anything like it since the day he’d figured out that music was his escape, the air in his lungs.

Which was why he was leaning against the wall beside Molly’s apartment at five that afternoon, a guitar by his side.

The elevator doors opened at a quarter after the hour, Molly going motionless two steps outside of it, the doors closing silently at her back. Yeah, she hadn’t expected him, but Fox was ready to work with that. Waiting patiently as she took a deep breath and completed the trek down the corridor, he drew in the scent of her, his gaze lingering on the fluttering pulse in her neck.

“How did you get past security?”

Fox smiled slowly at the blurted-out question, wondering if Molly knew how bad she was at hiding her emotions. He liked it, liked that he saw the real Molly, not an illusion she’d created to tempt him—not that she had to do anything but smile to tempt him. “I told you the security sucks.”

Unable to resist, he reached out to run his finger down one creamy cheek flushed with a mix of surprise, passion, and, he was certain, sweet, hot feminine anger. His guess was borne out when Molly unlocked her door with jittery hands and put down her handbag on one corner of the bench, her fingers trembling before she curled them into her palms. “You’re breaking the rules.”

“What rules?” Closing the door, he leaned back on it and willed her to face him. Much as he loved the shape of her from the back, he liked watching those expressive eyes whisper her mood to him.

Shoulders tight, she turned. “This was supposed to be a one-night stand.”

“Ah.” Folding his arms over the plain black of his T-shirt, he said, “How about a one-month stand instead?” He knew he had to play this exactly right. Molly was wary of him, and yeah, he could understand why. To have her in his life beyond a fleeting instant, he’d have to win her trust.

She jerked up her head. “What?”

“Why not? I like you. You like me.” He smiled—because the reason Molly had needed to jerk up her head was that she’d been staring at his chest. “Admit it.”

Sitting down on the bench, she began to unzip her boots, very obviously not looking at him. “You’re okay for a rock star.”

He wanted to bite her, then pet her until she was limp and languid in his arms. “We burn up together.” Deliberately modulating his voice—his instrument—for maximum effect, low and bedroom rough, he saw her fingers stutter on the zipper. “I’m here for a month. It’s an easy equation.”

When the words “Let me think about it” fell from her mouth, he thought she might’ve been as startled as he was, her lips parting on a slight gasp—as if to call back the declaration.

Release Blitz, Excerpt & #Giveaway: ☆The Exception☆ by @AuthorALocke

Title: The Exception
Author: Adriana Locke
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Day: September 18th 2014

They say there is an exception to every rule…

Jada Stanley is starting over, refusing to repeat her past mistakes. Everything is going great until she meets Cane Alexander. He is gorgeous, cocky, and everything she needs to avoid.

Cane lives within a set of carefully constructed guidelines to ensure his life remains uncomplicated. When he sets his eyes on Jada, all of his rules are called into question.

As their worlds become intertwined, they find it impossible to stay away from each other. Will they be able to maintain the rules they’ve created to protect their hearts? Or will they make an exception?

Cane shook his head, apparently to rid himself of whatever he was thinking. His eyebrows raised, he turned towards me. “So you will have lunch with him and not me? What am I missing here?”

“It’s business. Pretty simple, I think.” I peered out the door, watching Simon’s black Avalanche pull out of the parking lot.

“I can pretend it’s about business, if that’s what you want.”

“Cane,” I warned, turning my head to look at him.

“Lunch with him will not be about business. When I walked in here, that was not about business.”

“Whether it was or it wasn’t is no business of yours.”

Cane blew out a breath, his forehead marred in frustration. “Do you know Simon Powers? Have you dealt with him before?”

“No, I just met him today. Why?”

He looked relieved. “It doesn’t matter. Look, if he needs to see this property again, I want you to call me first, okay?”

“All right. I won’t bring him here without calling you first.”

“I’m going to give you my phone number. If he wants to see this property or becomes a pain in your ass, I want you to call me. Don’t put up with any shit from him and don’t bring him here unless you actually speak to me. Do you understand?”

“You’re making me nervous. What’s going on?”

“There’s nothing to be nervous about,” he said calmly, trying to dissipate the mood he just created. “I just don’t like that guy. I don’t trust him.”

“Whatever you say.”

“I like it when you just do what I say.” His eyes darkened.

“Noted. I have to go, Cane.”

“What’s your phone number?” He placed his hand on the small of my back. I stilled at his touch. A jolt of energy darted through my body, landing at the apex of my thighs. I closed my eyes and just felt for a minute.

“You can get my number from Max,” I said breathily, throwing his words from the night at the restaurant back at him.

Cane spun me around quickly, my back pressed against the wall. He leaned in, his face almost touching mine. I willed myself not to moan, to not give him any inclination that my willpower was melting away.

“Oh, Jada,” he whispered, the warmth of his breath only adding to the riot inside me. “Why do you fight this so hard?”

“Cane …” I tried to formulate a response but words were not accessible.

He smirked, knowing what he was doing to me. “Yes?”

“I … I need to go.”

“You need to. But do you want to?” He searched my eyes with his own. “I know what you want and what you need, baby. Why won’t you trust me?”

My eyes widened, my pulse pounding. He was so close and I wanted more than anything to reach out and pull him up against me.

But I can’t.

He smiled before leaning in, his lips grazing my ear as he whispered, “Why do you fight this? Just give me one night to get you out of my system.”

I turned my head to respond, to explain that was exactly what he wasn’t getting, and our eyes locked. The air between us, so hot and rife with energy, boiled over.

He captured my lips with his own, tentatively at first. I resisted for a split second before succumbing to his charge. His lips moved over mine, a soft juxtaposition to his hard exterior. The heat of the exchange, of him finally touching me, melted me from the inside out.

I opened my mouth, giving him entry, and he took it without hesitation. He explored my mouth with his own lazily, the softness of his tongue making my knees buckle.

I tried to focus, tried to commit everything to memory, because it would only happen once. That would be the first and last time I allowed my defenses to be obliterated by Cane Alexander.

The sound of blood roaring past my ears and the feel of his body, hot and hard against me, made it impossible to concentrate on anything for long. I hesitantly placed my hands on his back, feeling his muscles ripple beneath them.

The sensations were overwhelming and I was on the cusp of bursting at the seams.

Cane pulled back slowly and kissed me lightly on the lips, before retreating far enough away to look into my eyes. There were a hundred emotions playing across his gorgeous face, his eyes a dozen colors of blue.

I looked away, trying to catch my breath. I wasn’t able to figure out my own emotions—I had no business trying to figure out his.

“One night.” He lifted my chin so that my eyes met his. His tongue flicked across his lips.

He only wants one night …

My wits were scattered across the room and I gathered as many of them as I could before responding, “I need to go.”

A look flashed across his face that I couldn’t read. He raised his eyebrows. “That’s all you’re going to say?”

“I don’t know what else you want me to say.” I sidestepped him and made my way to the door. I looked over my shoulder one last time and he changed before my eyes.

The confused, vulnerable look gave way to an impassive, cool veneer. He sat his hands on top of his head and turned away, heading towards the office.

Seeing everything I needed to see, more than enough to convince myself I was doing the right thing, I pushed through the door and didn’t look back.

Review: ☆Mine to Have☆ by @cynthiaeden

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden continues her sexy “Mine” romantic suspense series with…MINE TO HAVE.

Is he a hero…or the villain?

When Elizabeth Ward sees Saxon Black rushing into the backroom of The Blade—a low end bar in Miami—she isn’t sure if he’s there to save the day…or just to raise some hell. But she’s being held hostage, and he’s her best hope of survival. Within minutes, she’s away from the jerks with the guns and riding fast and hard on the back of Saxon’s motorcycle.

Death stalks them.

Saxon has been working undercover for far too long. When he finds sexy Elizabeth—with a gun to her head—he knows he will do anything to keep her safe. But once he gets her away from her abductors, the threat to her isn’t over. Someone has put a price on Elizabeth’s head, and if Saxon can’t keep her safe from the danger stalking her, then she’ll be dead.

Their lives are both on the line.

As their enemies close in, Elizabeth and Saxon must go on the run. And the longer they are together, the hotter their attraction for one another seems to burn. Saxon vows not to let anyone hurt her, no matter what he has to do, because he’s falling fast for Elizabeth. He’ll stop the killers on her trail, and then he’ll have her. Forever.

4.25 Stars

You’re in my blood, sweetheart, and I can’t get out out. I want you, more that I’ve ever wanted anything.”

No one writes a sexy, keep you on the edge of your seat and action filled romantic suspense quite like Cynthia Eden. She’s become my go-to author when I want a sensual story with a possessive hero, a likeable heroine, and a plot that is guaranteed to suck me in from the very first page. I haven’t read a book by hers I haven’t loved yet, and this was no exception.

If you remember Jasmine Bennett’s 2 highly over protective brothers that were first introduced in Mine to Crave, you get to know them both much better here…starting with the dark and mysterious Saxon Black.

Saxon has been deep undercover for so long, he almost struggles to remember himself who he is. Forced to work too long with the criminal dregs of society, all he wants is to be done with it and finally live the life that he’s been dreaming about. But before he can do that, he accepts one small job as a favor to his brother, Victor. Little does he know that that job will change everything for him when he comes face to face with a green eyed beauty that’s in a world of trouble.

She was the one thing he’d found that he would fight for. No matter what.

Elizabeth Ward has no idea why she was grabbed off the streets and is now facing the barrel of a gun, tied to a chair in a seedy Miami bar. So when a dangerous looking stranger suddenly kicks down the door and rescues her from her captors, she’s not sure if he may be even more dangerous himself. One thing she does know is that his raw magnetism draws to her for a reason that she can’t begin to understand. When she finds out that he’s one of the good guys and her life is in even more danger than she originally thought, she has no other choice but to trust him with her life.

Saxon wants a lot more than her trust though…

You need to remember,” he told her, staring straight into her eyes, “I’m not some safe guy you can play around with while you’re biding your time until you get to return to your real life. When I said I wanted you more than breath, I meant it.” His gaze glittered.
“Next time, I’ll take you instead of that breath.”

Know what I love the most about Cynthia Eden’s writing? The unpredictability of it. Even when you know who the bad guy is somewhat early, she’ll still manage to throw in a twist that you will never see coming…and keep them coming until the very end. Mine to Have will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing yet never knowing what’s to come until the last page.

While the connection between Saxon and Elizabeth is fairly quick, there’s no insta-anything here…not really. The sexual chemistry between them, like any other couple from Eden’s writing, is palpable and explosive. Saxon is possessive and protective. Elizabeth is smart and caring with an understated core of strength that I really enjoyed. Saxon and Elizabeth together is just all sorts of hot.

The suspense and action is non-stop and made for one unputdownable read. If you’re a fan of Eden’s writing, you really don’t want to miss this book. And if you’ve never read her before, I highly suggest you get acquainted. While this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone, but I’d strongly recommend reading all the books in the series simply because they’re fantastic.

I’m really hoping we will get Victor’s book next because the set up for that here has me itching to get my hands on his story. It’s bound to be a verra interesting one.

Don’t miss the rest of the MINE series

A novella from the series will be coming out next month so be on the lookout for that!

Ryan Stone is a less than average teenager. He doesn’t have fancy clothes. He doesn’t carry around the latest smartphone and he definitely doesn’t have an MP3 player. Instead, he goes to school, does his chores and dreams of a new life away from Brookfield where he’s expected to follow in his blue collar family’s footsteps.

Hadley Carter is America’s Pop Princess. A successful recording artist living her dream with a sold-out tour and a handful of Grammy’s there isn’t much that she wants for, except love. But finding love on the road is near impossible when all she longs for are romantic dinners, a nighttime stroll on the beach and holding hands with someone who isn’t going to exploit her.

When a chance encounter introduces Ryan to Hadley, will he be like her adoring fans looking for a way in, or will it be Hadley who pursues Ryan even though it might cost her the only career she’s known.

Lost in You is a story about following your dreams, taking risks and getting lost in love.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:

Why I changed the cover
Since its release, I’ve heard over and over again how much people love the cover, but they’re not fans of “country western” novels. It’s hard to convince people that the novel was about something else. With this story being near and dear to my heart, I went back to Sarah Hansen (months ago) and we started brainstorming. It wasn’t until she found the absolute most fitting image did we start moving forward.
Now some of you know I’ve changed a cover before and when I did, I offered new content. This is the same case. I have Lost in Us coming out in October which is the epilogue to Lost in You.
I hope you love the new cover as much a I do and love the cover for Lost in Us just as much.
Much love,
Heidi

Her body visibly relaxes. I step closer, my body happy being this close to her. Her eyes close as she breathes in. Is she remembering what we had? Are her memories as vivid as mine? My hands cup her cheeks and I can’t resist the temptation to kiss her.

The moment our lips touch, I know. The fire is back. The electric energy coursing through our bodies making us one is stronger than anything I’ve ever felt. My tongue seeks out hers and is met with the same heat and emotion that I remember so well. I know without a doubt that she is the one who can ignite desire within me.

I slow things down, careful not to open old wounds. I kiss her once more, before resting my forehead against hers.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper. I should’ve asked if she had a boyfriend or a husband before I did that. For all I know, she’s taken and I just assaulted her. “I just had to know,” I say, pulling away from her.

“Know what?” she asks.

I don’t hesitate this time. I’m not taking any chances. “If you’re the one.”

A smile breaks out across her freshly kissed lips and I fight every urge to kiss her again. But I hold back. If someone told me that I was going to end up kissing Hadley Carter after running into her, I would’ve laughed.

With utter reluctance, I let go of her. The connection is lost and I hate the feeling that I’ve had to suppress for so long. It’s amazing what one person can do to you with just a simple touch. Hadley is my drug and for the past four years I’ve been jonesing for just the smallest taste.

“Do you want to come in?” she points to the apartment behind her. “We can talk. I think we should talk. I have so much I need to tell you.”

I look at the doorman who’s watching me like a well-paid hawk. The question still plagues my thoughts. “Are you married?”

“No.”

“Boyfriend?”

“No, I’m single.”

Those are the answers that I was looking for. “Okay,” I say.

“Okay.” She turns and I follow her up the stairs. The doorman opens the door for us and she nods as we pass them. We stand side by side, waiting for the elevator. When we step inside, she presses the button for her floor and we ride in silence.

Blog Tour, Excerpt & #Giveaway:☆Ignited☆ by @juliekenner

He promised to take me as far as I could go—and I wanted to go to the edge.

My whole life has been a cover, a con, a lie. I was born into the grift, raised on the thrill of playing someone I’m not. As a rule, I never let anyone get too close—until Cole August makes it impossible for me to stay away.

Cole is tough, sexy, and intensely loyal, yet his secrets are dark and his scars run deep. Not many women can handle his past, or the truth behind his fierce demands. But something about him beckons me—and our desire is a game I must play.

I know he’s dangerous, that even his touch is trouble, but what is passion without a little risk?

I wanted his touch, not just the knowledge that he wanted me.

Then take it.

The thought was so simple, so accurate and so compelling, that I actually took a step toward him. I’d seen the heat. Hell, I’d practically smelled the sulfur. If I pushed the issue, I knew damn well that I could force an explosion.

Determined, I aimed myself toward him. One step, then another. And then—with the crowd swirling around me and the voices meshing together like a discordant soundtrack—I simply stopped.

Did I want this?

I did, yes. Oh, god, I did. I wanted to feel Cole’s hands on my bare skin, his naked body hot against mine.

And yet . . .

And yet I couldn’t quite make myself go further. I could force an explosion, yes, but what then? If we burned together hot and hard, what would happen next?

Would we rise from the ashes like a phoenix?

Or would that fire simply destroy everything that already existed between us?

Character Interview with Alexa

Character Interview with Alexa (Lexie) Reed from Stay, the first book in The Alexa Reed Series

Hilary Wynne: Thank you for having us on Dirty Girl. I have a ton of things I want to talk to Alexa about and this is the best way to get her to spill all the details. First off, can I call you Lexie, or would you prefer Alexa? I notice that different people call you different things, and you seem to be a little particular about it. I don’t want to start this interview off on the wrong foot.
Alexa: You can call me Lexie. I am a little particular about people calling me a nickname when they don’t really know me. It’s always bugged me. I think you should know someone a little before you start acting so personal. I feel like we know each other Hilary, so it’s fine if you call me Lexie.

Hilary: I’m happy to hear you feel that way. You don’t let a whole lot of people get close to you. Anyway, Luke calls you Hooka, Marissa calls you Lex most of the time, and Julian has a whole lot of nicknames for you. Which do you prefer?
Alexa: The hooka thing always gets a few eyebrow raises and questions.Luke calls me Hooka because we’re huge True Blood fans and one of the characters on the show – Layfette- uses that nickname. Luke called me it one day and it just stuck. I wouldn’t want anyone else to call me that though, for obvious reasons. (laughing). Marissa calls me whatever she wants, but I guess it’s Lex a lot of the time. As for Julian…well, his terms of endearment are all okay by me. I think I’d rather him call me baby or Corazon if I have my choice.

Hilary: I guess it’s obvious why, but I’d think Alexa or Lexie would be okay too.

Alexa: Lexie is fine. He usually calls me Alexa when he isn’t happy with me. He doesn’t notice, but I do.

Hilary: I’ve seen Julian, and I’ve heard him speak. He has such a sexy accent. I think I would let him call me anything to be honest.

Alexa: Ok, now… he’s mine. (laughing)

Hilary: I know, I know. You’re a lucky girl, Lexie. Julian and a whole closet full of shoes… You did know I was going to bringup the shoes, right?

Alexa: Yep. Everyone always brings up the shoes.

Hilary: Because we’re all jealous! How in the world do you afford all of those shoes?

Alexa: You want to talk about the cost? I thought we were going to talk about what’s in style for the summer or who our favorite designers are, Hilary…

Hilary: I’m not sure we have enough time for that, Lexie. So, how about you just give us novices a few tips on where to shop.

Alexa: Actually, I spend a lot of time looking for great shoes. I shop online for great deals. Shopbop.com and bluefly.com are on my favorites list and the UPS driver knows my house well. And I’m a regular at TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack and places like that. So, I do try to stay in control.

Hilary:  Let’s discuss a few other numbers…as in how many pairs do you own? I swear you’re always wearing a different pair.

Alexa: I plead the fifth on that one too, Hilary. I’ll just say that I really do need a bigger closet.

Hilary: Like Julian’s?

Alexa: (laughs). Yeah. That would be nice. Talk about a lot of expensive shoes…That man makes my love affair with shoes look like amateur hour.

Hilary: (laughs) A lot of couples bond over common interests. Are shoes your bond?

Alexa: God no. At least I hope not. I mean it’s awesome that he loves shoes and appreciates my obsession with quality footwear, but I’d like to think that we’ve bonded over more than shoes.

Hilary: Care to share your thoughts on what that might be?

Alexa: Hmm. You know I’m not a huge fan of sharing secrets and personal stuff and you’re putting me on the spot with this one. But, if I had to answer that I guess I’d say that we just “get” each other. It’s hard to explain because I don’t always understand it myself.

Hilary: And there is the vagueness and dodging we have come to expect from you, Lexie. I get it; you aren’t a big emotional sharer. I’ll respect that…for now.

Alexa: Thanks, Hilary. Thanks for respecting my privacy…for now. It’s not like anyone else does. Everyone always wants to know what I’m thinking. It’s crazy, the stuff that goes through my mind sometimes.
Hilary: We’re all just trying to get to know you better, Lexie.

Alexa: (shrugs) I don’t think I’m particularly interesting or complicated. I’m just a normal girl who is working, living my life and doing the best I can not to screw it all up. I am lucky to have such great friends, and an amazing man to share my life with. And, the shoes make me happy too. I can’t leave out the shoes.

Hilary: (looks at her watch). It seems we’re out of time for now, Lexie.  I look forward to getting to know you, Julian, and the rest of your friends better in the future. I appreciate you taking the time to sit down with me and open up a little about what’s going on in your world. I’m glad to hear things are going well with you and Julian.
Alexa: Thanks for talking with me Hilary and thanks for having me on. I’m always happy to talk shoes.
Hilary: STAY in touch, Lexie, we are all excited to see where your story is heading.

Alexa: Absolutely, Hilary. Have a great night.
“Opened or closed?” He’s referring to the blinds on the windows.
“Open.” I want to see him in the moonlight.
I’m scared to say anything else, and I sense Julian is as well. Our usual conversations are filled with teasing and sarcastic banter. Those words don’t fit this setting.
The air is thick with our need for each other. Julian walks up behind me and gently turns me around so I’m facing him and moves me closer to a solid wall. I’m thankful he doesn’t press me against the glass. I look up at him and see his eyes are filled with desire. The sheer intensity of his stare makes me take a small step backward, and I feel the wall behind me.
This isn’t the first time Julian has towered over me in this position, and my mind races back to the night in the hallway at the club. His presence makes me feel protected, and once again I’m amazed by the different feelings he inspires in me. Julian places one of his hands above my head on the wall, bracing himself over me. His other hand starts to work on the button on my pants. We’re just staring at each other, lost in each other’s eyes and barely touching.
I’m in awe of his restraint. I’m fighting everything I have inside me not to reach out and touch him. Something in his eyes tells me he needs to be in charge and that he needs me to understand and respect his dominant nature. I’m dying for his lips to be on mine. They’re still swollen from our earlier make-out session, and I’ve been aching for him to kiss me since we walked out of the elevator. I tilt my head further up to meet his and lick my lower lip as an invitation.
“Mmm, Alexa,” he murmurs as he bends down and softly runs his tongue between my slightly parted lips. He stops there and pulls back, never taking his eyes off mine. That isn’t exactly what I had in mind, and the ache in my body intensifies.
Once he has the button on my pants undone and the zipper pulled down, he slips his hand in and lets his fingers graze lightly over the silk of my panties. We moan simultaneously. I feel a rush of heat fan out from between my legs, up through my stomach and into my aching breasts. My nipples are so hard they actually hurt. I know he can instantly feel how wet he has made me.
He’s barely touching me, and I’m trembling. I feel his touch everywhere. As sexually intense as things have already been between us, it was nothing compared to what I’m feeling now. I feel consumed by my need for him. It’s too intense. I’m falling apart in front of this man, and I don’t want him to see it. I feel completely naked even though I’m still fully clothed. I try to avert my eyes.
“Please, baby, look at me. The want and need in your eyes drives me crazy. I know you can see what you’re doing to me. Por favor, mírame a los ojos.” He’s begging me not to look away. How does he always know the perfect thing to say?

Have you ever woken up one day and said, “Today’s the day I’m going to do (insert thing here)?” Well, I did, and the result is my first novel, Stay. I always thought of myself as a decent writer, and then a trip down memory lane through my ninth grade book of poetry confirmed it. I realize that I have always had a romantic side and a way with words. With support from my husband and kids (and an unspoken agreement to leave me alone for a few hours every night), I embarked on this incredible writing journey.

I’m originally from sunny Southern California and spent my summers in South Florida. I attended college at FSU and received my Masters in New Mexico. I finally settled in the Washington, DC area. My happy place has always been anywhere near the water.

When I’m not writing, I help run a business with my husband, watch an inordinate amount of sports (my kids play something 365 days a year), indulge my competitive spirit on the tennis court, and spend time with my awesome family and friends.

I am an avid reader, but find my characters feel neglected when I hang out with other author’s characters for too long. When I do read, historical fiction is my favorite genre. I love traveling and experiencing different cultures, places, and times.

I feel so blessed that my love of books inspired me to finally do something that I forgot I had always dreamed about doing.

My someday has arrived!

“If I’m ever raped, I wanna be on top,” Crystal ended her introduction as I hurried through the door. Taking my seat in the circle quickly, I tried not to roll my eyes or sigh. What an idiot! Didn’t she know women really were forced to have sex against their will -raped?

It was a horrible thing to say, but the group’s counselor took it in stride. “Crystal, this is a new line. Would you care to explain?”

“I’ve finally figured it out. I want to be force fucked. I’ve set it up. Next week, five guys, it is going to happen,” she beamed.

Ms. Collins’ face stayed neutral. “So, you are saying you have arranged an ambush. You are having some men pretend to coerce you?” I was so thankful she didn’t say rape. Ms. Collins was always careful. She had to be, she was leading a support group for sex addicts.

Crystal nodded her head cheerfully, clearly proud of herself.

What was I doing here? Besides, sitting between Crystal’s gang rape fantasies and old man Charlie’s foot fetish? Looking down to hide the contempt on my face, I was just beginning to rethink my resolutions before Ms. Collins asked me to introduce myself again. We had to at every meeting because half of the members rarely attended. A long-term member would roll in after a particularly bad night.

Plastering on a forced smile, I began, “Hi, I’m Loraine.” Last names were off limits. “As I said last time, I am not a sex addict, but there isn’t a support group for my problem. So here I am.”

“You could join the frigid club if you don’t like us,” Crystal sneered.

Ms. Collin’s cleared her throat. “Loraine is not frigid. She seeks out sexual pleasure as much as you.”

“Yeah, whatever.” Crystal continued to study her nails.

“Loraine, please go on. We have some lifetime members joining us today who have not heard about your situation.”

Having rushed into the meeting, I finally scanned the room to get the shock of my life. I tried not to drool but across from me was the finest man I’d ever laid eyes on. Inhale, Loraine. Mortified, I couldn’t lie. Most of the group heard my story on my first visit. Now I’d have to spew my secret to the most desired, eligible bachelor in town. Always straight faced and serious, he now squinted, scrutinizing me before a flash of recognition shone on his face. Shit! His sultry eyes locked onto mine, I couldn’t read his reaction but could tell he was really paying attention now.

What’s worse, Richard Mahoney was my boss, the owner of the high scale restaurant I’d worked at for the last month. Only thirty, only a little older than I was, there’s no way he should ooze such sophistication. He was a fine wine where I was an American cheese. Rick was the kind of man classic novels were written about, the big sexy fish no one could catch. Sure, everyone called him Rick the dick at work, but the man made women’s panties hit the floor, and he loved every second of it. Being made of money, his main redeeming quality, at least for me was he’d worked hard to make Table 21 the hottest place in town and hadn’t stopped working when he’d succeeded. Even though he could be off playing golf on a tropical island somewhere, Rick rolled his sleeves up and was in the middle of the action.

While I contemplated if running out of the door would be just as embarrassing as speaking, Ms. Collins motioned for me to go on. I’d have to; I’d promised my doctor and my mother I’d give this a try. Assuring myself Rick’s presence alone meant he’d had to have heard worse stories, my curiosity kicked in as I realized he was sitting in this group of weirdos with me. Rick had his own demons, secrets no one in town had even whispered about. He was a sex addict.

Finding my strength, I started all over again. “Hi, my name is Loraine, and I am 25.” I shook my head. Why did I say my age? “I am not addicted to sex but to getting off. I seek out men on a nightly basis who are willing to do anything to please me. And they get nothing in return.”

“Meaning?” Ms. Collins probed. “Loraine, we all explain our addictions specifically in here.”

“I am addicted to being orally pleasured but not having actual intercourse,” I said through my teeth.

I couldn’t miss Rick’s eyes popping out of his head. “Have you had, um, intercourse before?” he asked in an odd voice.

Looking away fast, I said nothing. I didn’t want to have to go through this every time I came here. Of course, a group of actual sex addicts would think I was the strange one. Feeling exposed, I crossed my arms over my chest.

Ms. Collins patted my knee. “You don’t have to answer his question, but we all heard it last week. Rick has been with us a long time. He is a very supportive member and shares frequently.”

A girl with red hair snorted, causing Ms. Collins to give her a look of death. I spotted her nametag, Diane.

“No, I haven’t had intercourse. I’ve never been penetrated by a man, by anything,” I answered clearly and concisely. Maybe the questions would stop, but I doubted it.

“So you’re still a virgin?” Rick uttered slowly, noticeably shocked.

Eyeing Ms. Collins instead of anyone else, I blew out a breath of frustration. I so didn’t feel like a virgin. “Actually, my hymen is broken.” I knew that didn’t really mean anything
after my doctor explained it, but it shut most people up. “I’ve been given the option to go through some physical therapy to try to help,” I managed to get out next. I‘d also flat out refused.

Ms. Collins provided a reassuring smile. “If you would like to share first, go ahead.”

Nodding to her, I remembered I needed this, to be understood. My therapist said it was necessary to share with people other than my mother and him. He said what I had wasn’t just a problem but an addiction. That I needed rehab but this would have to do. Here I promised not to behave badly, but came to confess my sins weekly when I did anyway. Maybe these confessions would help me make sense of myself.

“Last night, I went out to a club with a girlfriend,” I said keeping things as vague thus anonymous as possible.

Crystal perked up. “Lesbian?”

“No, a female friend. I met this guy, a college student. I have been out of college a few years now. Anyway, he was an easy target.”

“Meaning?” Diane, the red headinterrupted to huffs from other members. “Trust me this is the good part,” she told Rick, touching his leg.

“Meaning, he was harmless. He was hot enough, they all are, but he was naïve. I could tell he would be thrilled someone like me chose him over his more popular friends. He’d be thrown off guard that I wanted to go somewhere more private instead of getting to know each other. We went back to his dorm, not to his room, but to the showers. He got down on his knees, pulled my jeans down and ate me out. I was in control, standing, leaning against the wall with my hands in his hair like I was a guy getting my dick sucked.” Just remembering it caused my nipples to harden as I tried not to squirm in my plastic seat.

“What happened next?” Ms. Collins directed.

“I got off and made my excuses to leave soon after.” I shrugged then laughed, “He was pretty, pissed. I don’t think he’ll call.” I didn’t give him my number.

“So you are a cock tease,” Rick blurted out.

“Now Rick, Loraine has tried to go all the way but found she can’t. It may be a phobia,” Ms. Collins studied me with her pencil to her chin. “You have no experiences with abuse, right?”

“None,” I answered honestly. It was usually the first and last question ever asked. After I denied abuse of any kind, no one took my problem seriously.

“Yeah, right. Just a cock tease,” Rick mumbled to old man Charlie.

Richard Maloney, striking black hair and light blue eyes with a statuesque body or not, was really starting to piss me off. “I am not a tease!” I almost shrieked. “How many times
have you gotten your dick sucked and didn’t return the favor, not even had sex afterwards?” I challenged. Guys did that sort of thing all the time, at least in the movies. I’d never been able to date one very long.

Rick shrugged. I was right.

Crystal spoke up, “Rick won’t eat pussy. He’s not scared of it; he’s just too good for it. I for one have never slept a man who wouldn’t go down.”

Old man Charlie babbled, “I’d ram my rod up that tight pussy, fix Loraine right quick.”

“Mmm hmm,” Rick agreed.

“Gentleman! That is enough.” Ms. Collins scolded all of us and defended me gloriously to my embarrassment. Then we discussed as a group how my behavior was dangerous, no matter how careful I thought I was. Plotting daily to find sexual enjoyment had taken over my life.
The others related their problems to my own. We all vowed to change, but that was easier said than done. We weren’t stupid; we were addicted.

After class, I spoke to Ms. Collins alone to tell her Rick was my boss. Reminding me he signed the same agreement I did, she added, “We all have secrets here. There has never been an issue with anyone in the group breaking our pact.” That explained why I hadn’t heard of
Rick coming here. I wanted to be comforted by her assurances, but I didn’t need any more trouble in my life. Never having told my secret before in this group, I left the community center more troubled than ever.

Blog Tour, Excerpt, Review & #Giveaway: ☆Run☆ by Eve Vaughn

The Hunter…

Dare O’Shaughnessy had the world in the palm of his hand. A man known and feared for his ruthlessness, his word was law. The last word he ever expected to hear was no. Until he met her.

The Prey…

Aya Smith despised the ruling class who looked down on hardworking people like her. Sick of being treated unfairly by laws that protect the wealthy and punish the poor, she takes a stand but soon realizes, she might have crossed the wrong man.

The Game…

Created as a government program to assist in the repopulation of the country when an untested drug wipes out millions of women, The Run eventually evolves into something much more sinister. Now played for the amusement of the super rich, women down on their luck find themselves the prizes of sadistic masters.

Aya is forced to volunteer for The Run, and Dare, the most sadistic of all, places her in his crosshairs. She will belong to him, body and soul. But when he catches her will she succumb to his mastery, or will he find more trouble than he bargained for?

Aya took a deep breath as she made her way to the bar being careful not to look directly in the direction of the jerk supreme. As she poured his drink, she was tempted to spit in it. With each move she made, Aya could feel his heated gaze on her. She wasn’t naive about men like him. They acted like they owned everything they saw. He was toying with them and threatening their livelihood because he could.

She used as much time as she dared to fix his drink before walking toward him, still refusing to make eye contact. Aya forced herself not to slam the glass down in front of him. “Will that be all, sir?” she asked through gritted teeth while she kept her gaze planted on her feet.

“Look at me.”

Aya didn’t want to stare into eyes so deep a green they were almost hypnotizing. They were her favorite shade and she resented the hell out of him for that. Thoughts of her uncle forced her to comply. Slowly, she raised her head until she met his gaze full on. That cruel smirk curved his lips.

“If there’s nothing else, I need to see to the needs of the other customers.”

“I was under the impression from the proprietor that you don’t deal with customers. Which one of you is lying?”

She bit the inside of her lip to hold back an angry retort.

The bastard had the nerve to chuckle. “No need to answer. I can see he was just protecting what’s his. I can’t say I blame him. What are you to him?”

“I don’t think that’s any of your business.”

“Fair enough.” He picked up his drink and took a sip all while his gaze roamed the bar. After placing the glass down, the smirk returned. “How much do you think a place like this would cost if someone wanted to invest for the purposes of tearing it down and rebuilding?”

The blood pounded in her head and she dug her nails into her palms. “He’s my uncle.”

He nodded in seeming approval. “Have a seat, Aya.”

She didn’t like how he used her name as if he had the right but she complied. “Look Mr. O’Shaughnessy, I don’t know what you’re trying to do here, but we don’t want any trouble. We’re sorry if you haven’t found the service to your satisfaction but we just want to be left alone. Please.”

“You seem like an intelligent woman. I would have thought it was fairly obvious what I wanted.”

She folded her hands in her lap and clinched them tightly together to keep herself from trembling. This couldn’t be happening. There had to be a way she could get herself out of this. She opted to play dumb. “I have no clue what you’re talking about.”

He narrowed his eyes. “I think you do. In fact, I know you do. So, let’s not play games. You can make this really easy on yourself. You and your uncle will be taken care of for as long as I want you. And when I no longer do, you’ll be well compensated. You’ll be under my protection.”

She fought back the urge to attack him. The arrogant son of a bitch. “And what if I don’t make things easy on myself?”

“I don’t think you want to know. But the end result will be the same. I will have you.”

3.5 Stars

It didn’t matter how attractive he was. Dare O’SHaughnessy was the devil and he was looking for his due. Her.

This was very different from anything I’ve read in the past, but in a good way. Highly entertaining and very erotic, I pretty much finished this in one sitting. While I can’t say that everything about this book worked for me, I certainly liked it enough that I’m looking forward to the next book, The Auction. I had a tough time rating this since there were a few quibbles I had that kept it from being a solid 4 star read, but ultimately I did enjoy it quite a bit. Let me break it down for you the best I can.

The set up
Run is set in a futuristic world where the only thing that rules is money. When a Derugulaition act was put into place years ago, it allowed any and all government to be obsolete and for the rich and powerful corporations to become a law onto themselves with free reign to run their business as they see fit. The fallout was incredible, as was the death poll. When a large pharmaceutical company released a vaccine for breast cancer that wasn’t properly tested, the end result was a drug that ultimately wiped out half the female population and causing the women to become almost as valuable as currency. The poor, or the Dregs of the society are struggling to survive where the rich and powerful are corrupt and money is the only thing that holds power. The gap between the rich and the poor is extreme and there’s no rules to govern anything. Thus also formed The Run; an event that started out as a government program for men to find wives, but really it’s just a legalized hunt where the men that can afford to buy in will hunt for their potential “mates”. Women participate in this due to having no other choice and trying to keep their families affloat. Men participate to basically add to their harem. These women are often brutalized, tortured, and at times don’t survive their new masters. The owner of the run is the enigmatic Dare.

When Dare notices Aya (a Dreg for all intents and purposes) and she rebuffs his advances, his brutal and punishing nature insists that she pay. So he puts to work a chain of events that eventually leave Aya no other choice but to participate in the Run where Dare has every intention of catching her.

What worked
The set up. I liked the world building and the premise of the story, it was very unique and unlike anything I’ve read in the past.
Dare was a hero you will love to hate and Aya is a heroine that you will root for.

The sex. It was damn hot.

The secondary characters. I’m hoping that Macy and Foster will be making an appearance in The Auction. Their story is one I was very intrigued with, especially poor Macy and what she went through.

What didn’t work for me
I felt a lot of the times that I was being told the story as opposed to shown. There were things that were almost redundantly described. I like to be led to my own conclusion about characters and situations most times, especially when there’s a certain dark element to the book, and that just wasn’t the case here. I felt like I was told what to think, what to see, and everything the characters feel.

The initial attraction
I didn’t quite get it. Dare sees a glimpse of Aya being arrested, barely enough to catch her features, and he’s compelled to track her down after that at the bar she works and proceeds to systematically tear her life apart because he NEEDS to have her.

Aya’s strong will
While a lot of the time that was the one thing I really loved about her character, it also really worked against her in other parts. If you know that the rich always win, and Dare is as rich and powerful as they come, why would you proceed to not only turn him down but do it in a way that’s guaranteed to piss him off. Would you really throw a drink in the face of someone that just threatened your business and livelihood and actually has the means to carry through with it?

Dare’s personality change
It just wasn’t believable to me. For someone that grew up like he did, and has pretty much been a cold and ruthless bastard for the better part of his life, it was almost like a switch was flipped and then he does a complete 180. It was just too sudden for my tastes, and I just couldn’t really connect to it.

Overall thoughts
Minus those few things, I really did enjoy this one. If you like futuristic romances with a darker edge, definitely give this one a try. It’s quick paced, erotic, and the set up is very unique. The set up for The Auction has certainly peeked my interest, and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store with the next book.
