Blog Tour, Review & #Giveaway: ★A Desperate Man: Vol One★ by @EllaFrank2012 & @BrookeBlaine1

Fantasies – we all have them.

For some it’s their dream job; others want the wedding, the 2.5 kids, the white picket fence.

My fantasies are a bit more…depraved.

Dark and sinful, they have destroyed relationships and my livelihood, yet I still submit to them like a slave.

Sex.

For most, it’s a natural expression of love, caring, or lust.
But there are those of us who can’t stop once we’ve had a taste.
Those of us who don’t want to.
And the shame of that never-ending cycle will eat us alive…

My name is Evan James, and I am a sex addict.

AmazonB&NKoboAmazon UK  / Amazon AU
“Come here.”

Evan James crooked his finger at the blonde currently shimmying back into her minuscule, tight, black dress. The same one she’d worn last night that had called like a siren’s song to his cock in the middle of the dimly lit club.

She looked over at him with heavy-lidded eyes and held the barely there fabric still around her waist. His eyes zoomed in on the impressive breasts overflowing out of her sheer, black bra. Covered, but not enough.

His mouth watered, and he wanted to drag her back to the bed and take hold of her ripe nipple before pulling the fabric down and out of his way to take her fully into his mouth again.

After having had her so many times in the last few hours,

she’d no doubt taste of him on every inch of her soft skin. He liked that. Before, she’d tasted faintly of vanilla musk—a fragrance he wasn’t overly fond of. He’d made quick, dirty work of her though, marking and leaving his scent on her with his lips, his sex, his come, and he figured one last go-round before sending her on her way would suppress his craving for at least a couple of days.

He hoped. His appetite was voracious.

“Can’t get enough, can you?” She leaned down over the edge of the bed and placed her hands there, giving him an ample view of what he wanted. Now.

He narrowed his eyes. “Don’t play with me.”

Blondie tsked and put her knees on the mattress, crawling on all fours toward him. “Oh, baby, I told you you’d never want me to leave once you got inside.”

She was right about that much. If he could live in pussy, he would. It was his weakness, his addiction, the one thing he’d give up anything and everything for. And he nearly had.

4 Erotically Charged Stars

If he could live in pussy, he would. It was his weakness, his addiction, the one thing he’d give up anything and everything for. And he nearly had.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t even bother reading the blurb when I saw the chance to receive an ARC of this book. Ella Frank is a permanent fixture on my auto-buy list. She just seems to have this midas touch and she hasn’t let me down yet. Brook Blaine is a new to me author, and together these two are a force to be reckoned with.

Firstly, I have to tell you that this book is nothing like you’ve ever read before from Ella. Actually, this books is unlike any I’ve read before. Period.

If you’re expecting a romance, this is not it…not yet anyway. The Fantasy introduces the reader to Evan. A broken man whose past and what led to his downfall is shrouded in mystery. A man that’s completely lost to his addiction. Told entirely in his POV, it is a no punches pulled, spare no dirty detail, and unapologetic view into Evan’s world.

Evan used to have it all; a successful career, money, women…Now he’s a shell of a man he ones was, but the one constant in his life remains. Women. Evan is a sex addict. A man that’s so deeply entrenched in his addiction, he truly doesn’t see a way out of it.

Evan has basically reached the rock bottom, so when salvation comes in the form of a job offer to a financial firm he never would have even considered when he was at the top of his career, he jumps on it…And comes face to face with a temptation unlike any he’s experienced before.

She looked like class and sex all neatly wrapped up in one siren-red fuck-me dress.

Here’s where things get very interesting. The introduction of Reagan. Reagan is a mystery of her own. You know absolutely nothing about her aside from the fact that she’s Evan’s boss. Her past is even more mysterious than Evan’s. This is no wilting wallflower. The woman is sharp witted, tough, and owns her sexuality like most women do stilettos.

She never took her eyes off him, and he wondered what she saw. A desperate man, most likely. One so deeply entrenched in the depth of his addiction that the only relief he’d been able to find lay with he woman beneath him, covered in his come- she’d become his dirtiest fantasy.

I don’t want to give you any more detail than that simply because it’s best experienced blind. This is not a long book and is one you can easily read in one sitting. It’s more of an introduction of Evan and a look into his world than anything else. It’s erotic, it’s different, and I can already tell that it’s going to be addicting.

About Brooke

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.

Her first solo novel, a romantic comedy, is due out in early 2015, but first, she thought she’d write a raunchy story with her best friend that would scar her conservative southern family for life.

If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find – just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

Paperback Release Day & #Giveaway: ★Kaleidoscope★ by @KristenAshley68

Today is the release day for the paperback edition of Kaleidoscope! Kaleidoscope is book 6 in Kristen Ashley’s Colorado Man series.
KALEIDOSCOPE by Kristen Ashley
(December 16, 2014; Forever Mass Market; $7.00)

When old friends become new lovers…anything can happen.

Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at “hello.” His relationship with Emme’s best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that’s ever happened to her?

It isn’t easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she’s a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme’s always been the one; she excites Deck’s body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme’s past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she’ll let him . . .

I dropped my leg so I was sitting cross-legged in the couch and leaned into him. “Honey, you remember everything so I don’t have to remind you I haven’t seen you in nine years. I dig it that we reconnected and I love having you back.” I again threw an arm out, this time toward him and back to me. “This is great. You and me spending time together, shooting the breeze. I missed that. And I get it that friends make gestures, but this is too much.”

His eyes warmed during this speech and he took his arms from the couch, bent his legs, leaned into them, and me, and put his elbows to his knees, never releasing my eyes.

“Baby, I want you warm and liquid. The first bein’ physically, the second bein’ financially. You stop payin’ so much for heat, you’ll have more money for the rest of the shit you gotta do.”

This made sense.

But he’d again called me “baby.”

And I needed to address that.

So I asked, “What is that?”

His head cocked and his eyebrows drew together. “What’s what?”

I drew in breath and on the exhale, stated, “You calling me baby.” Then I went on quickly, “Not that I don’t like it. It’s sweet. It’s just not…” I hesitated, “us.”

Something happened to his eyes, his face, his whole big body and that something made me brace at the same time it made my heartbeat escalate.

“You know what it is,” he said softly.

I didn’t.

“I don’t,” I shared.

His eyes stayed locked to mine and I knew him relatively well, or I used to. But even if we hadn’t been separated for years, I still would not have been forewarned to the fact he was about to blow my mind.

“Before, we had Elsbeth between us. My head was fucked about that, about her, and it took almost a decade to get it unfucked. Lookin’ back, havin’ you back, I now know and I reckon you know, that’s the way it was. She was between us. She knew it too. And she didn’t like it. But it didn’t matter. My head was fucked so I couldn’t see clear of her and not doin’ that, I didn’t see you.”

I knew my lips had parted. I also knew my eyes got big. And last, I had no clue what to say.

So I said nothing.

“Now she isn’t between us,” he finished.

It was then I knew what the “baby” business was.

I just had no idea how to react to it because I never considered it. He was beautiful. He was kind. He was smart. He was funny and interesting and affectionate.

But he was my best friend’s boyfriend.

That didn’t mean my mind didn’t go there in vague ways, not stupid enough to wish for something I could never have, just silently covetous of what Elsbeth had. And, because of all that he was and that Elsbeth had it, in the end, infuriated she threw it away. Angry enough to end an important friendship because of it.

Sitting there, all that was Jacob, and all that being spectacular sitting across from me, holding my eyes, I finally understood that the reason I was angry at my friend was because, in throwing Jacob away, she took him away from me.

And now I had him back, but also, he was saying I’d always had him a different way, we just didn’t go there and he was going to take us there.

Yes. I had no clue what to say but my body had a clue how to feel. Warm and there were a lot more tingles.

“Jacob—” I started on a whisper.

But he interrupted again.

“You saw me, asked me out to dinner that same night, no fuckin’ around. Since then, you’ve called twice for no reason except to connect, and, baby, before you freak that I noticed that and what it said, I’ll tell you, I’m fuckin’ glad you did and I’m also fuckin’ glad about what it said. The boyfriend you were on the fence about, you got off the fence in less than twenty-four hours after seein’ me again and decided to get shot of his ass. And you didn’t waste any time gettin’ me right where I am tonight. That is not friends reconnecting. You know it. So do I.”

“I—”

“Don’t deny it.”

I shut my mouth.

DEBTcoverI don’t know what I was thinking when I hired someone to attack me. Maybe I was bored, or lonely, or there was a void so deep inside of me that I needed something explosive to fill it.

It was supposed to be safe. A thrill. A way to break through the monotony of everyday life. It was an illusion of danger that I could walk away from as soon as it was over.

Except that it wasn’t. Because I had been in danger long before I ever invited it into my life.
———————
My mission is almost complete. The bubbling boil of vengeance that heats my blood might finally simmer.

She is the last piece of the puzzle. Once I destroy her, everyone who ever hurt me will have paid their debt.

It was supposed to be quick and easy, but as soon as I met her it got complicated.

Very complicated.

“Please, dance with me,” I beg in a mewl.

His hand threads through my hair, the other grabs my ass and pulls me up and against his thigh, applying more pressure against him.

Brick by brick.

And we move in sync: slow, rhythmic grinding. Eye to eye. Lids barely parted. Sweat beading. Low moans vanish into the air. The deafening music drowns out any conflicted feelings that remain. He tugs my hair and extends my neck, grazing his teeth against my chin, the tip of his tongue awakening the sensitive nerve endings. His hand squeezes my half-exposed ass, and everything lights up. My nipples and clit, a partnership of arousal, tense in ecstasy as they stroke against the man who sets me on fire. He is also the only person who can put me out.

My moans grow louder, but they are drowned out in the safety of the music. And like the flashing lights in the club, I become ablaze with flickering energy, throwing my head back, arching my spine as he supports me, as he lets me use his body, his smell, his taste, his overpowering masculine energy to put out the blaze that he ignites inside of me.

I collapse onto him, grasping his shirt, taking in his smell, the warmth of his broad chest, completely lost in the sensory experience that is Tax. I smile as I burrow my face into his chest, drunk off the mixture of alcohol and lust.

4 dirty dirty DIRTY debt Stars

Reckless. Irresponsible. Dirty. Dangerous. Exhilarating. Erotic. Wild. Euphoric.
How can one thing be all of those?
How can peering into the gutter of my soul feel like I just touched heaven?

What in the effing hell did I just read? And why do I suddenly feel the need to go to confessional? But the better question is, why in the fucking hell did I like it?!

The quote above describes the book perfectly, because it truly is ALL of those things.
Reckless.
Irresponsible.
Dirty.
Dangerous.
Exhilarating.
Erotic.
Wild.
Euphoric.
And most importantly Dirty (it’s worth listing it twice)

There are no pleasantries, no small talk it’s a man who wants to fuck a woman. Not just fuck her, but take her.

I can say that this book is certainly not for everyone. It’s just one fuck shy of being depraved. Luckily my sanity is long gone and my ovaries are steel plated, so this was right up my pervy little alley.

Don’t fucking act like you don’t like this shit, Mia. I know you want someone to dirty you up. I’ll make you fucking filthy.

Mia is a good girl…well mostly anyway. She loves her job working at an adult toy company, but her own sex life has been sorely lacking lately. So when her best friend tells her about the most thrilling and erotic sex she’s ever had just so happened to come from a service in the form of a ‘rape fantasy’ she wants to be disgusted…and yet she can’t help but be incredibly intrigued at the same time. A hot and sexy stranger, a safe word that makes it all stop should you chose, and the promise of the hottest sex she’s ever had proves too alluring to resist. But nothing prepares her for the man that shows up to ‘attack her’

Tax Draconi is a debt collector and Mia is the last name on his list of people to pay.

I will suck her dry. I will fuck the life out of her, I will ravage her until she is hollow and used…

Now I have to tell you, some of the scenes that take place in this book? Even the seasoned pervert in me was almost screaming

Because it is one step away from being borderline rapey…and yet it wasn’t. But it was certainly…dirty. Very, very, VERY dirty.

My advice if you chose to read this is to slightly suspend your disbelief. The interesting thing is I couldn’t find it in me to care that some of the things that I read here would usually bother me in any other books. Which definitely goes to say something…and I’d rather not think on that right now LOL.

But the premise of the book is much darker and a whole lot more than the dirtyness of it.

Tax targets Mia for a very specific reason. A reason that has everything to do with their shared past and a past that she has no recollection of.

The story is told in alternating flashbacks of present to past and slowly trickle feeds the reader details, little by little, until you start putting together all the puzzle peaces. Tax’s history is absolutely gut wrenching. This is no sunshine and unicorns type of book. It’s DARK and it’s all kinds of fucked up.

I wish I can give you more of the plot, but I simply can’t. That blurb is vague, and that’s all you should know going in.

I had a hard time understanding Mia’s almost instantaneous connection to Tax, especially given some of the things that he makes her do. I have to say some were almost too tough to swallow…even for me. And yet her lust for him was always unwavering. Now taking into consideration their “past”, it did make a little more sense to me by the end.

I have to say that I could have gone without one very particular scene: (view spoiler)[I don’t want to even read the word ‘tampon’ in my book, especially a sex scene that starts off with the pulling of one out. Euuuwie. No spanks (hide spoiler)]

But aside from that, I couldn’t put this one down. As much as I thought I had an idea about where this book would go, the constant twists and turns kept me on my toes until the very end. And then that end! Holy freaking shit! The feels! The feels, I tell ya! Damn.

This was my first Nina G. Jones book, but I can definitely tell you that she’s found a new fan in me.

Review: ★Twisted★ by @cariquinn and @TarynElliottFic

He’s always saved her. Now she’s going to return the favor…

Gray Duffy never thought he’d end up as the co-lead guitarist of Oblivion, one of the hottest rock bands in the country. Even better? He’s sharing the experience with his best friend, Jazz. Since the day she’d showed up as his family’s new foster kid, Gray has protected her. Loved her. And not just platonically either. After all these years of wanting her in his bed, he still doesn’t know what it would be like to have her mouth on his.

Except for that one time. The time he’d shared her with Nick. The best worst night of his life.

Now they’re living their dream. They’re making music together and spending every waking moment trapped in tight quarters. With success at their fingertips, the time is right for him to finally make his move toward the woman he needs.

He just never figured he would lose control. Or that she would find out.

They’ve loved each other through everything. But what if this time love just isn’t enough?

4.5 It Just Gets Better & Better Stars

He could do anything, survive anything, but he couldn’t turn away from Jazz. She would sustain him where every other drug had failed.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of both of these authors, and I have been an even bigger fan of this series since i first read the prequel novella, Seduced. I fell hard for the boys of Oblivion and admittedly, Gray and Jazz’s story is the one that peaked my interest the most. You have long time friends, unrequited (or is it?) love, and oh so much angst. I mean, does it get any more delicious than that? Not for me.

They’ve loved each other through everything. But what if this time love just isn’t enough.

Gray has always been the quiet one of the guys. But you know what they say about the quiet ones, don’t you?

Jazz first met Gray when she was just 14 and he was 16. After years of being in the system, Jazz was thrilled to be fostered by Gray’s parents. All she’s dreamed of is being adopted, having a family of her own. And the Jazz of the present, years later, holds on to that same dream. Only this time, it’s not parents that she wants, but her dream husband, children, a happy life. And the only man that she can see that with doesn’t seem to share her feelings. But oh how little she knows…

Deep down, he still had a niggle of hope that things could change. That one day she’d stop looking at him as her best friend and see him as more.

If you’ve read the novella then you know that months ago Gray and Jazz made a colossal mistake in their friendship…a threesome with Nick.

It was all about timing, she’d told him once. Without it, it was impossible to keep the beat going. And theirs was always fucking wrong.

Now many people may not understand why either Gray or Jazz agreed to something like that, but I did. Gray is in such a dark place, that when he sees what may be his one and only chance to have Jazz, he takes it, no matter how small it may be. And Jazz has loved Gray for so long thinking that he doesn’t return her feelings that using Nick as a buffer finally allows her to have that piece of him that she’s always wanted…if only for a few moments. But that one night, that one decision changes everything…

This is not your typical rock star romance. It’s so much more. It’s gritty and emotional and with just the perfect amount of angst.

I knew from the very beginning I would love Gray, and I was not wrong even a little. He’s such a tortured character and my heart absolutely broke for him.

When Gray realizes that he may have lost any chance with Jazz after seeing something he wasn’t meant to see, he turns his addiction for her into a different one. A much more dangerous one. He soon begins to lose himself in a haze of cocaine and music.

But Jazz is determined to show him that he’s everything she wants, and now she’ll stop at nothing to make sure he sees her as more than a friend.

This is very much a character driven story, and there’s one thing that Cari and Taryn do a phenomenal job at; character development. Wow oh wow. These authors are incredibly talented and their ability to make you feel the characters’ inner turmoil and emotion along with them absolutely blew me away.

The story is told in alternate flashbacks from past to present. I’m not typically a fan of that, however in the case here, it was done extremely well. And it also weaved into the larger picture of the story effortlessly. Trickle feeding Gray and Jazz’s past to the reader in the way that they did as the story in the present progressed only made it that much better.

You really get to see and understand why both of them make the decisions that they do.

I adore a great friends to lovers romance, and this ticked off all my YES boxes.

While this book does have a HEA, it’s clear that their story is far from finished, so I’m happy to see a follow up book for them. I can definitely understand why two books are needed for Jazz and Gray. Their story is just too much for one book. And I for one cannot wait to see how it all develops.

If you’re a fan of this series, then this book is a must read. And if you haven’t read it yet, and you like angsty and super sexy romances, then you NEED to check it out. While each book may be read as a standalone, I wouldn’t recommend it. You really get a much better feel for all the characters if you read it in order, prequel included.

This series has been on my auto buy list since book one, and this book just goes to prove exactly why

The Truth About Air & Water by Katherine Owen
(Truth in Lies #2)
Publication date: August 25th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

The Truth In Lies Series. READ
This Much Is True, book 1 first, although it’s been written as a standalone. Readers say, don’t do that.

“The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” -Ernest Hemingway ~ A Farewell To Arms

They share an epic love but one moment changes everything. A life together that seemed certain is shattered. One learns you never love the same way twice; the other learns what it means to come home. You only think you know how this love story goes, but do you really know how an epic love can end?

“There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice.”
-F. Scott Fitzgerald

She is living color, and I’ve been in a black-and-white world for far too long without her.
Powerful stuff. It surrounds me. I’ve felt it since I first arrived. The forcefield of her. The magnetism of her. The power she wields over me. I’m alive again because of her, like a dying plant that finally gets some water. I’ve got it bad for this girl.
Reality dawns.
The light comes through the darkness and shines on me.
She’s my water.
-Lincoln Presley

The truth is I breathe with him. He is my air. Raison d’etre.
-Tally Landon

Author’s note: This novel is part of the Truth In Lies series. It can be read as standalone, however, fans of my fiction already are highly recommending that those new to my work, READ This Much Is True book 1 FIRST.

As Lincoln Presley would say, “do as you must, Princess.”

4 I’m emotionally exhausted Stars

You know what they say, don’t you?
Everything comes together.
You know what I’m going to say, don’t you?
Everything comes together and then falls apart.
But who’s right? You ask.
I am.

When I finished This Much is True last year, I was emotionally wrung out. Katherine Owen has this incredible ability to reach with her words straight down your throat and to your heart. Then, like the sadist that she surely has to be, she squeezes that fucker and doesn’t let it go until you’re crying, screaming, and begging for mercy. Ask me how I survived that book, and fuck if I know. It was gut wrenching. And at the same time, that couple stayed with me. They never got out of my head. It’s just one of those tumultuous love stories that you simply can’t forget.

Beautiful things are like that, extraordinary one minute, gone the next.

So you can only imagine my reaction when Katherine told me that she will writing a second book for Linc and Tally (FYI the first books does contain a HEA). Suffice it to say I was equal parts excited and terrified as to what else the author can possibly put this couple through. Believe me when I tell you that she already put them through hell and back…twice over….then went back and ran them over with a mack truck…twice.

We are bound, somehow, her and I.

First, while you could technically read this as a standalone, I would advise against this. You really need to start from the very beginning with Linc and Tally. You’ll understand and appreciate everything that they’ve been through that much more.

I was afraid that this book would be excessive, have unnecessary angst, drama, and quite frankly be too much. I can also tell you that I am now gladly eating my words. Because Tally and Linc absolutely needed this book, and I’m so happy that Katherine decided to write it. It’s definitely not as intense or angsty as the first one, but don’t let that fool you. It will still put you through the wringer emotionally.

It’s just like they say. You’ve got your fingers in the dike preventing the dam from breaking, but it’s only a matter of time before it does. That’s how water works. That’s the strength of water. You can’t stop it.

The Truth About Air & Water finds Linc and Tally together, months after This Much is True ended. They’re settling into their life together one step at a time and trying to plan their wedding. But nothing for this couple has ever been easy, and their road to marriage certainly isn’t a smooth one. Actually, fuck that. It’s a mount Everest fucking climb is what it is.

Linc is laser focused on his baseball career, while Tally is still dealing with the fallout from the gut wrenching news that she received after her attack in Moscow. They’re trying to make things works, but sometimes even your best isn’t enough. And sometimes life has other plans for you and doesn’t ask whether or not you’re strong enough to handle it.

I must hate him now. I love him and hate him at the same tie. I wield this newfound rage deep inside, so deep that no one sees it, but it’s there growing and changing and getting stronger with every passing day.

What happens? Well, that my nosy friends, I definitely can’t tell you. But what I can tell you, is that as tumultuous and volatile as this love story is, it’s like a shipwreck

But just try to look away. I dare you.

If you’re looking for a book that’s filled with steam to offset the angst, keep looking. Katherine Owen doesn’t give you that here. And the odd thing? I never found myself missing it.

I’ll give you a moment to absorb that particular shock.

The fact is, this is such an emotional and poignant story that you will find yourself too absorbed in all their turmoil to care about anything else.

Your heart will bleed for this couple. You’ll scream, you’ll rage, you’ll cry. And you sure as hell won’t be able to set it down.

That ending was just absolute perfection. It managed to bring a tear even to my cold and black little heart. If you like angsty, emotional, and at times even gut wrenching reads, this is an author that you need to become acquainted with. If even this self proclaimed smut slut can look past the fact that there’s basically zero steam because I was so enraptured in the story, it really tells you something.

My only advise? Have lots of alcohol, tissues, and ice cream on hand. PMS has NOTHING on Katherine Owen.

Don’t miss the book that started it all!

Katherine Owen writes contemporary edgy fiction, which translates to: she writes love stories that are contemporary in setting and both edgy and dark. Some readers term her books emotional roller coasters. With her writing, Owen admits she has a fondness for angst, likes to play with a little drama, and essentially toys around with the unintentional complications of love. She contends this began early on when she won a poetry contest at the age of fourteen and appears to be without end. Owen has an avid love of coffee, books, and writing, but not necessarily in that order. She writes both Contemporary Romance and New Adult fiction which includes her bestselling TRUTH IN LIES Series (a series despite despising ‘series’) beginning with This Much Is True and her latest release, The Truth About Air & Water. The TRUTH IN LIES series is fan-driven. So. There will be a third book about Linc and Tally released in 2015 titled Tell Me Something True.

About Owen’s fiction…This is NOT the light trope stuff. She travels a unique, writerly path and enjoys writing dark and angsty (a “non-word” she is fond of) emotional love stories. She often warns readers to be prepared with: time, tissues, wine, Advil or your drug of choice. And, as her most favored character, Lincoln Presley, would say, “do what you must, Princess.”

Are you ready for Blaire?

Love is selfish…

My name is Blaire.
I’m the bad girl.
The other woman.
The one who never gets the guy in the end.

I’m the gold digger.
The bitch.
The one no one roots for.
The one you love to hate.

I hate myself too…

Everyone has a story. Are you ready for mine?

Amazon / B&N / iTunes

With champagne and caviar inundating my every sense, I slither through the light wooden floors of the Lila Acheson Wallace Wing in The Met. As I walk, I pretend to admire the expensive jewelry being showcased tonight by a famous designer whose name I can’t remember. A multicolored diamond butterfly sparkles to my left and a cobra made out of black stones glistens to my right. Rows upon rows of precious gems twinkle under the soft lights of the room, flooding the space between the walls with the glow of a thousand stars. Furtive glances. Secrets gossiped. Beauty criticized. Lofty music fills the atmosphere as the über rich mingle and pretend to like each other, yet you can almost taste their conceit and derision for one another in the air.

This is Walker’s world, and I love it.

Standing across the room, where the crowd is thinner and the music fainter, I spot Walker’s blond head in the corner of the room, talking to a group of his colleagues and their wives. He looks polished and worth every penny of his trust fund in his sleek black tuxedo, perfectly starched white shirt and black bowtie. His long golden hair parted to the side shines like the sun. He is truly flawless.

I smile because it’s hard to picture that this is the same guy who likes to snort coke off my tits as he fucks me while hardcore porn plays in the background. He looks untouchable and so cool, but his searching eyes, scanning the crowd for me give him up. He’s wondering where I am. He did tell me not to go too far, after all. Soon after we arrived at the party, I gave him some space to talk to his friends and do his thing while I did mine. I hate clingy people, so I avoid being one.

I grab a third flute of champagne from a passing waiter, and try to decide which of the different displays to check out first when my eyes land on a spectacular piece of jewelry. On a bed of black silk, similar to my hair color, lies an extravagant necklace made of diamonds and rubies—a small heaven within one’s reach as long as you can afford the price.

I bridge the space between the glass protecting the necklace and me until it’s within my reach, fighting the urge to touch the cool surface. As if under a spell, I observe how the rows of diamonds embedded in platinum form leaves and thorns. At its center is a rose made out of red diamonds almost as big as my palm.

I feel someone walk up and stand next to me, but I don’t give him or her a second thought as I continue to admire the way the light hits the gems, making them shine.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”

His voice is smooth and commanding, dripping absolute power. I keep my eyes locked on the display. Call it sixth sense, but somehow I know that under no circumstance should I make eye contact with the stranger who speaks like the ruler of the world.

“Yes,” I say simply.

“I wonder how much it is?” the man asks.

“I don’t think it matters … I highly doubt anyone can afford it.”

He chuckles, and the sound is more delicious than his voice. Lusher. “Oh, but I can.”

I smile at his self-assurance. I love cocky assholes. “I still doubt it.”

“You shouldn’t. I only speak the truth,” he retorts coolly. His voice is nonchalant yet his words leave no room for disbelief—a demand and a statement all in one.

Suddenly, the noises of the room become distant. People talking and laughing amongst friends and the orchestra playing all fade away until all I hear is him speaking.

And at this moment, that is all that matters.

“The truth is very subjective, sir.”

“The truth may be subjective but money isn’t. Money can buy anything.”

His answer is like an electroshock, jumpstarting my brain from a champagne-induced haze. My pulse begins to accelerate, excitement making it hard to take a deep breath. Don’t look at him … don’t.

“Oh really,” I say, my voice dripping with sarcasm. He’s right, though.

“Of course. I believe everything,” he pauses, “and everyone has a price.”

Curiosity winning the battle against curiosity, I turn to face him, and what a fucking big mistake that is. When our eyes meet, I feel incapacitated of all sense and movement. The sight of him takes my breath away. This man gives the term “lust at first sight” a whole new meaning.

In my short twenty-three years, I’ve been with extremely handsome men, perfect even, but to classify the man standing next to me in any kind of category would be a disservice to him, and not really fair to the others. Longish, light brown hair wildly framing his face, vacant eyes the color of dollar bills, a slightly crooked nose, and a mouth that begs to be buried deep within your thighs. His beauty is as harsh as it is stunningly perfect. Dressed in a simple black tuxedo and unbuttoned white shirt, the man exudes innate virility and grace, reminding me of a black panther stalking his prey. And just like a panther, it’s the pure raw and powerful energy emanating from within him that I find most attractive. Because just by standing next to him, I get the sense that his word is always the last spoken and his wishes the first ones to be fulfilled. He doesn’t ask, he demands. He doesn’t hope, he expects.

He’s quiet for a moment; his uncanny eyes hold me captive as though they are baring my soul to him and I hate it. I tighten my hold on the crystal flute. I want to look away, but I can’t. The way he’s staring at me makes me want to squirm.

“I wonder … do you have one?” he asks softly before turning to examine the piece of jewelry once more.

“A what?” I ask, momentarily stunned.

He smiles. “A price.”

“For the right amount … I just might,” I say quietly, my heart beating so fast it feels as though it wants out of my chest. As soon as the words leave my mouth, there’s no shock coursing down my body, no rolling waves of shame pulling me down for having said that to a complete stranger—nothing.

And why should there be? I am who I am.

I’m staring at his profile, waiting for him to acknowledge my answer, when a breeze of cool air floats past us, making me shiver. About to chase the goose bumps on my arm with my hand, I watch as he slowly turns to look at me, catching me staring at him. Time stands still as I watch him raise his large tanned hand and touch my bare shoulder, his fingertips lightly grazing the temporary small bumps covering it. Then he smiles as if he knows that my skin is tingling from his scalding touch, and looks away.

“I thought so.”

We remain standing next to each other for another minute or so, the distance between us almost nonexistent. It would be so easy to reach out and hold his hand. The sound of an incoming call breaks the silence, bringing us back to reality.

He takes his cell phone out of the inner pocket of his tuxedo jacket and ignores the call after noting the name of the caller. He lifts his gaze to meet my own.

“Sorry about that.”

“It’s okay. I should go … I’m here with someone,” I reply, not really wanting to leave him just yet.

“Yes, that’s probably a good idea.”

I frown. He didn’t have to be quite so blunt. The stranger extends a hand toward me, holding something in his fingers.

“Here … ”

I open my hand as I feel the edges of what I assume is his business card poke the skin of my palm. “What’s this?” I ask stupidly.

“My business card, of course.”

“Obviously … but why?”

He smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. “Let’s just say that I’m an interested buyer.”

And then he’s gone.

He turns and walks away from me, disappearing into a sea of colorful gowns and black suits. As the sounds of the party infiltrate my ears once more, I lower my gaze to stare at the simple cream-colored card in my hand. Its simplistic and elegant design draws attention to the name printed in bold black letters on the paper.

Lawrence Rothschild.

I smile and let my fingertips trail his name. It depends on what you’re willing to pay, Mr. Rothschild.

This is me taking control of my life. This is me becoming whatever I need to be in order to achieve my goals. And, most importantly, I don’t care because when this is over; all my sins will be paid for…and very well.

Allow me to preface my review by saying that I absolutely fell in love with Mia Asher’s writing style. The woman truly has an incredible gift with words. I was captivated by the story with just the first few sentences and I knew it would be unlike anything I’ve read before…and boy was it.

I am selling my soul.
And the sad part is…
I don’t care.

See here’s the thing, my dislike for a heroine is a guaranteed way to ruin the book for me. I have yet to read a book where that didn’t hold true…until this one. The blurb painted an anti-heroine of sorts and that was the main reason I picked this up. Did it deliver on that promise? Well, pretty much.

I’m a gold digger, but I’m also smart. Love fades…or it’s selfish…or unkind…but a diamond, a diamond will last forever.

The blurb is incredibly vague, and that’s a good thing…and also a bad one. Because had I known this was not a standalone and would have the possibility of a love triangle (of sorts), I would never have picked this one up. The mere thought of a love triangle sends me into a cold sweat, and it’s always hard limit for me. Even an implied love triangle makes me stabby

After finishing it, i can definitely tell you that I’m GLAD I didn’t know about that because I would have missed out on an AMAZING book and a fantastic author! The reader isn’t really introduced to a love triangle here, but I have a feeling that come next book it will definitely be there and be a hell of a whammy. Let me clear up what I mean by love triangle, though. There are NO dual love interests. It is very clear who Blaire truly has feelings for. There is also no intermingling of relationships and no cheating. One happens right after the other. However, for me, when a heroine has more than one sexual interest in a man, meaning there’s 2 men vying for her “attention”, I view it as a LT. Though not in a traditional sense. So if you’re like me and hate LT, I highly recommend you give this one a try because it’s not all it appears to be.

Love is selfish.
Love is unkind.
Love hurts.

Blaire is a gold digger. She’s gorgeous, shallow, and almost soulless but at the same time intelligent and highly intriguing. She is a product of her childhood and has learned the tough lesson early on that love isn’t for everyone nor is it forever. And who needs love anyway when money can give you so much more?

To say that Blaire is unlikable wouldn’t be true. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not exactly going to give you the warm and fuzzies but there’s also a redeemable factor to her…it’s just buried very deep. Used to sending men to their knees with her beauty and opening her legs to the right wallet size, she never sees it coming when a man that is the polar opposite of what she looks for manages to capture her attention…

I adored Ronan. He’s sexy and sweet and one of the most endearing heroes I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. But this is also where the book took a negative turn for me; the introduction of someone else.
But that is all I can tell you about the plot. You’ll have to read it yourself to learn the rest.

So why not 5 stars?
The ending
This is a short, read it in one sitting, type of read. Personally, I didn’t feel that a cliffhanger was essential to the story at all. It could have easily all been resolved in one longer book. There are some stories you read and you can clearly see why it needed the cliffy and the extended story, but this just wasn’t the case for me here.

While, I understand that the way Blaire constantly describes herself and justifies her decisions that it was all leading to that. And I suppose that’s also part of what didn’t quite work for me? The predictability of it. I saw it coming a mile away, and yet like a train wreck I just couldn’t seem to look away.

At this point however, I have no idea where the story may head. And that equal parts intrigues and enrages me. And I’m hoping for the sake of my sanity that the wait for book 2 isn’t too long.

But my small quibbles aside, this was still a great read. Mia Asher is definitely an incredibly talented author and it’s clear with every word that the woman can write a book that will grab you by the throat and make you feel. Whatever that feeling is, is objective to the reader, but any book that manages to bring out such a range of emotion is definitely one to take note of.

My name is Mia Asher.

I’m a writer, a hopeless romantic, a wanderer, a dreamer, a cynic, and a believer. And, oh yes…I might be a bit crazy – but who isn’t?
