DGR’s January Reads Roundup & #GIVEAWAY

I know, I know, I’m super late with my post. I suck. I totally and completely suck. I sorry! I managed to completely over-estimate my reading capacity once again and take on way more than I can chew. So I’ve been super frazzled trying to get to all my ARC commitments and review in time that I barely had time to put this post together on a timely basis…like you know…at the beginning of this week! Le sigh. But better late then never, right? I mentioned on my Facebook page this week as I was composing my January favorites (as I do for every month) that since I didn’t really have too many mind blowing five star reads, this month instead of giving you guys my favorites, I’m just going to do a roundup for all the books I read. So here they are in no particular order… Some were amazing, some were great, some not so much but a good month nonetheless

A Case For The Negative Review

I have a question; when did writing negative reviews become a stigma in the book world? Why is it that no matter where I look on social media lately someone is complaining about something and someone not writing a “proper” review. When did it become equivalent to school children on a playground bickering about stupid shit that wouldn’t even make anyone’s radar until it’s posted and bitched about on social media? Why is it that professional reviewers and bloggers are being lumped in with the few rotten apples that apparently seem to be only on Goodreads? When did it become necessary to publicly shame people in posts or comments simply because you don’t agree with them?

Notice that I’m not specifically pointing at anyone here? Well there’s a reason for that, because it’s not just limited to authors and reviewers lately. Everyone seems to be jumping on the judgy bandwagon and finding it necessary criticize and/or to “educate” (often rudely) on how someone else should be doing something (writing reviews, writing books, pricing, selling, buying, reading, you name it).… Read more

Whereas M4 was all museum-like, the Ice Box is pure dark decadence. Ice sculptures sit on pedestals around the room. Cages with body-painted dancers hang from the ceiling. A bar with white and blue lights stretches from one wall to another.

Strobe lights flash across the space as I get jostled by the crowd. The bass thumps as the song “Waves” by Mr. Probz plays for the dancing crowd.
