But Thandie’s no fool. Even as he tries to seduce her into a world of intense and shocking passion, she knows it’s too good to last…especially after she uncovers Elliot’s explosive secrets.

Thandie’s going down a dangerous road, and she’s risking a lot more than her career. Torn between doubt and desire, will she have to pay the ultimate price?

Darkly sensual and deeply moving, Beyond the Velvet Rope takes you into a world of uncontrollable desire and unexpected consequences.

3.5  Stars

Tell me you want me.”
“No.” She could hardly breathe, let alone sound certain of herself.
Elliot lifted his head to look into her face. Her eyes were practically glowing with lust. “Tell me what I want to hear,” he demanded in the husky voice. “Tell me you want this.”

This was a toughie for me to rate. I was completely enraptured in the story. Absolutely loved it and I’m captivated enough to continue and eagerly anticipate the next book in the series (Which I’m hoping will be Nico’s). Unfortunately there were just a few things that kept this from being a solid 4 stars for me. Truthfully, if I was rating on the story alone, I’d give it 5 stars. It was THAT good.

Thandie Shaw is a PR golden girl. She’s made quite the career for herself in New York. But when the opportunity presents itself to work for the enigmatic and rich Miami club owner, Elliot Richards, she knows she has to get it. Too bad Elliot isn’t that thrilled with employing a woman. He’s arrogant, chauvinistic, rich as fuck, and sexy as sin

What can I tell you about Elliot? If you like the enigmatic, rich playboys, you will absolutely fall head over heals for Elliot. He was everything I love and more. Everything that came out of this man’s mouth was sinfully delicious.

That’s what I get for being a Good Samaritan.”
“You call dragging me against my will into your car and ogling me a act of goodwill?”
“Absolutely,” he said. “A simple ‘thank you’ is always welcome. But in your case, I’m willing to accept sexual favors.”
“You are unbelievable.”
“I prefer to think misunderstood.”

Plus he has that bonus addition of asshole that just completely solidified him in my top perve material spot.

We’ve rescheduled for next Monday night.”
“Good for Rex,” he said. “He could use the attention. Regrettably, you’ll have to break your plans. You’ll be busy.”
“Busy? Busy doing what?”
“Busy being fucked by me.
I see you’re speechless,” Elliot cooed. “Try not to make a habit out of it. I prefer my women to be a bit more vocal.”

What can I say? That touch of asshole will do it for me every single time.

The second Thandie begins working for Elliot, he makes things extremely clear. He’s determined to seduce here. While she’s determined to fight him on it every step of the way. She’s not looking to be just another notch of his belt, and Elliot’s certainly had his fair share of notches. He doesn’t exactly mince his words, and paints a very vivid picture of his intentions to Thandie

Thandie was a great heroine. She really does try to fight the seduction, but no woman in her right mind can possibly fight the full effect of Elliot Richards for long.

I think we should get a few things straight, Thandie. I have every intention of screwing you. Keep up this act, and I promise you’ll find yourself in a lot of trouble with me.”
“I’m not interested,” she said through gritted teeth.
“I could make you. Quite easily.”

The sexual relationship between them was a slow burn. And with the book being as long as it was, that was a hell of a slow burn. But there’s just enough sexual tension and innuendo thrown in that sucks you in like a moth to a flame.

Stop denying us, Thandie.”
“You give yourself a lot of credit, Mr. Richards.”
“I have the experience to back it up.” He grinned. “Trust me. I’m as good as they say.”
“Why me?”
“You interest me.”
“What happens when I’m no longer interesting?”
Elliot shrugged. “I’ll find someone else.”
“This is all a game to you,” she whispered.
“Everything is a game, Thandie. And I play to win.”

I seriously couldn’t get enough of the chemistry between them. The author did an amazing job building a slow heat that eventually CUMbusted into fireworks when they finally do get together.

Turn around. Let me see your ass.”
“Fuck you.”
“How about I fuck you instead?

Now as to what kept it from being a higher rating for me. There were a number of things.

The length. I felt that the book could have easily been a good 30% less…or more. It was incredibly descriptive. While I loved the vivid picture that a descriptive story builds in my head, I also found myself getting bored with a lot of the parts. There was a large number of characters introduced, and all of them had a backstory, and it really got confusing to keep track of it all. I didn’t really get the necessity of Cam and the first chapter of the book. i felt that could have been excluded entirely without taking away from the story.

The formal writing style
As much as I loved the story and the flow, I found the writing to be a little too formal at times. Some of the phrases and words that were used gave me an eye roll or 2. Honestly, at times I almost felt like I was reading Shaskperean porn LOL!

She sucked hard as he filled her mouth with hot sperm.

Hot sperm was certainly a first for me.

Now finally free from Elliot’s affections, she was unable to drift into slumber.
Turned on their sides, they slept in “spoon” fashion.

Thandie studied her reflection as she affixed her earings.

Again, just way too formal for my simple puny brain tastes.

The way her body pocketed his manhood

The contact of her drenched center pressed against his naked manhood.

Manhood is a term that is almost guaranteed to kill my lady boner in 2.5 seconds flat.

Now I know I probably sound like I’m nitpicking here, but the combination of everything did manage to bring down my rating. I’m not sure if it may bother others as it did me, but it is what it is.

The twist at the end is certainly not one I saw coming, and I was glued to my Kindle for the last 30% to see how everything would turn out. While some of the things in the story didn’t quite work for me, I am completely sold on the series. Even if the things I complained about repeat in the next book, I would still gladly read it. The author managed to peak my curiosity so much with Nico and Victoria (and Matrix) that I’m dying for the next book.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! If you can overlook some of the things I mention, you will fall hard for Elliot and enjoy the book immensely. And even if you are bothered by it, the story is just strong enough for you to be able to overlook them. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series, and can’t wait to see what Tiffany Ashley has planned for the foul mouthed and sassy Victoria and the deliciously sexy and rich Nico.

Breaking Shawn
Author: E.M. Abel
Breaking Free #2
Publication Date: May 27, 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Release Day Launch: Breaking Shaun by E.M. Able

Some men fall in love and hand their balls over to the first woman who keeps them interested—but not me. Surfing and my freedom are the only two things I’ve ever needed. Meaningless one-night stands are fun, but the drama and jealousy that follows them aren’t worth it.
Until I met Natalie, I never realized there were women who thought like me. She enjoys sex with no strings, and with a body like that, there isn’t a man around who doesn’t want a piece of her—including me.
But our friends and relatives all run in the same circles. And we all know friendship and sex leave a mess. Hearts always end up broken.
I know it.
But I still want her.

Sometimes, the things we want don’t always come easily. Every choice, every action has consequences that can change you.
They can change everything.
And no matter how fiercely guarded, even the strongest hearts can break.

**WARNING** Not recommended for younger readers due to sexual content, language and recreational use of marijuana.

“Is this what you wanted?” he whispered as he took my wrists in one hand and the other came down to cup my breast.
I swallowed as moisture gathered in my mouth and my brain scrambled for a response. It was just so difficult to think with Shaun’s hard body pressing against mine in the middle of his apartment building where anyone could see us.
His gaze finally broke from mine and moved down to my lips as he glided his thumb across my hard nipple. I could smell the soap on him, feel his wet, warm skin pressed against me. My eyes fluttered closed and I pressed my head against the wall as the lust took over.
Shaun moved his hips forward making me very aware of his arousal before lowering his head and slowly dragging his tongue across my bottom lip. I was panting now and my entire body was tingling. I don’t know how he’d done it but Shaun had completely turned the tables on me. I’d come over to assert myself and show him the side of me he hadn’t seen, yet here I was getting pressed against a wall and turning into putty in his hands.
Review
3.5 stars

Let’s fall in love
Before the world breaks through
Before time catches up
And I break you.

I’ve been stewing and stewing on my rating for a couple of weeks. It’s very tough to rate a book when a personal bias comes into play as it did for me here. I had originally rated it a 3 star (liked it) read, but now bumping it up to a 3.5-4. Here’s the thing, my personal bias aside, this was a highly entertaining and steamy book. I enjoyed the story and I loved the characters. Had it not been for a couple of things, this would have been a very solid 5 star read for me. So on to the review we go
There is one thing (well aside from a hot as fuck hero) that is guaranteed to make a book for me, and that’s a fantastic heroine. I’m talking the type of heroine you don’t read about about often enough. The type of heroine that isn’t shy or meek. The type of heroine that owns her sexuality and isn’t afraid of a little harmless sex. The type of heroine you’d call a cool as fuck chick, and Natalie was certainly all that and more.
She pretty much had me at
I never got nervous around guys. If anything, it was the other way around, and that was how I liked it. I had the pussy, which meant I called the shots. Sure, men liked to think they were in charge, and sometimes, I’d let them. It was easier that way. I’d play the role, smile and flutter my eyelashes, but I also had no problem telling men what I wanted and taking it. Men’s egos were a lot like their dicks, always needing to be stroked. As long as they kept me satisfied, I didn’t mind doing it.
Natalie was no sexual wallflower. She likes sex, but she’s not looking for commitment. Her past hasn’t exactly given her a reason to think that relationship of any sort lasts. So what happens when the manwhoring Shaun meets him female match?
Sparks fly.

Shaun is used to getting what he wants, and that includes his pick of women. He’s not exactly lacking for female companionship. He’s not looking for strings, just some mutually satisfying time between the sheets with whatever willing woman crosses his path. They may hate him in the morning when he sends them packing, but they certainly go home satisfied.
So when Natalie turns Shaun down flat, he’s intrigued. When he discovers three months later that they share an inner circle of friends, he can’t seem to get the gorgeous redhead out of his head. But Natalie is having none of it. She may be intensely attracted to Shaun, but she knows sex complicates things, so friendship it is. But can their friendship survive the scorching sexual chemistry between them?

Definitely not.
I loved that the author didn’t throw Natalie and Shaun into bed together right away. She really lets you feel that sexual chemistry and burn between them. I also liked they neither of them were exactly abstinent during this time. E.M. Abel really stayed true to Natalie’s character. She didn’t just stop her normal sexual routine simply because she was intrigued and attracted to Shaun.
There was one part at around 28% that had me in a bit of ‘what the fuck’ and ‘why did he do that’ rage. I had a feeling that it was heading in a certain direction, but I kept hoping the author wouldn’t take it there. I don’t want to spoiler it but if you’re curious about the first part of it (highlight to view spoiler)[you sure you want to know? Would’t you rather just read it?Damn you’re persistent. Oh alright, I’ll spoiler it.
******SPOILER*****
Shaun gets drunk and sleeps with a girl that he meets in a bar. This is all fine and good had it not felt like a pity fuck on his behalf. She’s very shy and begs Shaun to help make her ex jealous that they see at the club. They’re both extremely drunk and don’t remember much the next day.
***end of spoiler***
This is in part why I had such a big issue with what happens later in the story, but I definitely won’t be telling you what THAT is.
I also wouldn’t have minded a little more story and a little less sex. It did feel stretched out at parts and could have been shorter. But then again, the sex was pretty damn hot. Shaun certainly doesn’t disappoint, even if he does like to say “Goddamn” a bit too much. He made up for it with the rest of his delicious dirty talk.
The ending is the part I wasn’t thrilled about. Well, not so much the ending itself, but parts that happen during it. Don’t fret, there’s a very nice HEA, even though I am extremely disappointed at one big part that played in it. I’m not sure why, but considering how the rest of the story stretched, I though the ending was a little rushed. I may think that simply because I’m still pissed about a certain thing that happens, so I may very well be the only one to think this.
Would I recommend this book? Definitely. My personal bias aside, I truly enjoyed it.
Would I read the next book? Definitely, though I’m a bit worried that I know who the heroine will be and I’m not sure how I feel about that. I hope I’m wrong.
Writing Style:Dual first person POV
Also in the Series:

My husband is awesome and also a Chief in the US Navy. This means crazy schedules, uncertainty and lots of nights spent alone writing on my computer.

I have two amazing kids who always know how to make me laugh.

I’ve been passionate about writing since I wrote my first poem in the 3rd grade and I’ve been using it as a means to express myself since.

I think because I hold my emotions so close and fear being vulnerable I use different forms of self expression- writing, drawing, painting, photography, tattoos- to show the world who I am.

The one rule I use everyday is the Golden Rule–“Treat others the way you’d like to be treated.” I believe karma is very real and sometimes she can be a bitch if you make her that way.

I love acting crazy, I love to laugh, I love making people laugh, I love the ocean, I love dancing like no one is watching, I love good music, I love good books… oh man I should probably stop there. I love a lot of stuff.

ARC Review: ☆Knight☆ by Julia Sykes

The Amazon bestselling Impossible Series continues!
A woman shattered…
He took me and broke me.
I am plaything, a possession.
If I did ever have a name, I don’t remember it now.
Slaves don’t have names.
Salvation found in obsession…
He stole me away from the man who tormented me. He saved me and took me into his care.
His touch keeps me sane.
His control keeps me grounded in reality.
He demands that I reclaim my humanity, my autonomy.
He forces me to piece the shards of myself back together.
I am utterly devoted to my savior, but his brand of rescue might leave me more broken than ever.
How can I ever become truly whole again if I can’t learn to let him go and take control of my own life?
Do I have a hope of finding freedom when he refuses to release my heart?
Or is this new form of captivity just what I need to survive?
WARNING: Given the nature of this story, this book contains graphic violence and references to sexual assault, which some readers may find upsetting. It also contains sizzling scenes of (consensual) BDSM!

NOTE: Knight is part of the Impossible series, but it can be read as a standalone story without spoiling the other books.

Your name, girl.

Tell me. Now.”

Fear flashed across her features.

“F-fucktoy,” she whispered tremulously.”

This book was very different from anything I’ve ever read in the past and I struggled with my rating because of it. I’m a big fan of Dark Romance and BDSM and I’ve read plenty of it, but this was a mix of a few things and yet…not.

Knight starts off with Smith’s POV during the FBI raid of a BDSM club. Being a Dominant himself, it’s not something that’s out of his normal routine, but what Smith finds there manages to test even his carefully mastered control and anger. Because among the the faceless bodies in that place, he sees her. A woman that is clearly a sub, but even more clear a victim…but of what, he doesn’t know yet.

I didn’t have a name. If I did ever have a name, I didn’t remember it now. I was a slave, and slaves don’t have names.

The rest of the book gets told in her POV.

She knows herself only as slave. A woman so broken, she’s shattered, all at the hands of a monster that has put her through hell. Slave has suffered atrocities that are so painful, just the mere memory has the power to bring her to her knees. She doesn’t know the woman that she once was, she doesn’t remember her…nor does she want to. She’s no longer that woman. She’s buried that in the recess of her mind never to be accessed again.

I’ll be honest, the first 30% of so was very slow. It was difficult to read, and not because it was bad. Julia Sykes’ writing is captivating, and I enjoyed the way she painted a very vivid and painfully dark experience that Slave suffered. Slave is as broken as they come. Broken down to a mere shell of who she once was, she was as fragile as glass.

Smith knows that no medicine can help Slave in the state that she’s in. As a Dom, he knows the control and rules that she so desperately needs and clings to in order to maintain her fragile grasp on reality. So he takes it upon himself to give her that.

Julia Sykes did a fantastic job painting a very realistic picture of a woman that is beyond damaged. I understood her almost obsession and utter devotion to Smith.

I also enjoyed the progression that she goes through from Slave to a semblance of the woman she once was.

Although I wouldn’t call this a dark book, the things that Slave goes through were horrendous and not easy to digest. You have to prepare yourself since it’s no light read. However, it’s also not an action packed and high paced one. The progression is slow moving and slow building, which ultimately makes the story, yet also makes it difficult to get into right away.

Although slower paced that what I’d normally read, it managed to constantly keep me on my toes not knowing what would happen next. Julia manages to throw in some BAM moments that kept me guessing and on pins and needles almost afraid to see what would come next.

The overuse of endearments like “sweetheart” and “girl” did grate on me at times, but nothing that diminished my enjoyment. The love story is not an orthodox one, that’s for sure. What begins as as a clingy obsession turns into something much more eventually.

I really loved the way that the author build the heroine back up throughout the book. She goes from slave to her true identity in a very realistic way. This was not something that happened overnight and you feel that emotion and pain right along with her.

I can’t say that this is something I ever see myself going back to, but I did enjoy it. And I will definitely be continuing with the series as I’m invested in the story and very curious to see what the next book brings. Particularly with the “Mentor” still not caught.

Mainly told in Slave’s POV, the prologue and epilogue we do also get Smith.

I look around and see a guy staring at me. He’s about my age, not much taller than my five feet five inches, cute, and wearing a suit and tie. I start to wave to see if he’s the one I’m meeting, but then another guy catches my attention. He’s about six three and huge, and I don’t mean just in height; his body looks like it’s been chiseled from stone. He’s wearing black boots, washed-out blue jeans, and a white t-shirt, and every piece of skin exposed is covered with tattoos. His ears have those gauge thingies in them. His dark blond hair is cut low on the sides, and the top is in a fauxhawk. His jaw is strong, with a few days of stubble, and his eyes are so blue that they almost look like contacts. He is beautiful in a way that is unusual but no less gorgeous.
His eyes come to me before looking away quickly, and the next second, they come back to me and do a head-to-toe sweep. I gulp at the intense expression on his face. I glance past him to the other guy—or at least try to—but Mr. Tattoo starts towards me, blocking my view. I want to take a step back, but I can’t go anywhere. Then I see my phone in his hand.
“This yours?” he asks.
I nod like an idiot. He shakes his head, running his free hand down his face, and then his eyes sweep over me again.
“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” he says, seeming upset.
I look down at myself, wondering how I could’ve offended him. I look normal—or my working-outside-the-house normal. When I’m at home working, I wear baggy sweats I cut off to make shorts or pajama pants that hang off of me along with tank tops or T-shirts. The few days a week I get out of the house, I like to dress up or at least wear heels.
“This cannot be fucking happening,” he growls, and I wonder if he is completely crazy.
“What?” I ask, finally finding my voice. I have to tilt my head way back; even in my four-inch heels, he still towers over me.
“You.”
“Me, what?” I ask, confused.
“Never mind. Who is this?” He presses the button on my phone, the screen lights up, and a picture of Jamie Dornan wearing nothing but a pair of jeans takes up the screen.
“Um…that’s Jamie,” I reply, wondering why he is asking but too afraid to ask him; the look on his face isn’t very inviting for conversation.
“He your man?”
“I wish,” I mumble under my breath and hear him growl.
My head flies back as I search his face; his jaw is ticking, and his knuckles of the hand holding my phone are turning white.
“What does that mean?” he asks.
“That’s Jamie Dornan. He’s playing Fifty. I don’t know him.” I feel my cheeks heat up and look down at my feet.
What the hell’s wrong with me? Why am I not afraid right now? I have been scared of virtually everything my whole life, and now, when I should be running for cover, I’m not scared at all. Just a little embarrassed.
“I don’t have time for this,” he says, and I don’t know what he’s talking about, but I all of a sudden really want my phone out of his hand before he crushes it to smithereens.
When I look up again, I see that he is walking away. My eyebrows come together, and I wonder what he is doing. Then I realize he still has my cell.
“Hey! You can’t steal my phone!” I run after him, grabbing his arm.
He looks down at me then stops short. I’m completely caught off guard when he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me flush against him. His free hand goes into my hair and pulls my head back, and then he kisses me. No, not kisses—he consumes me. My body starts to buzz like someone just plugged me into an electrical outlet, and I start to feel lightheaded. When he pulls his mouth from mine, I gasp, my fingers going to my lips.
“What was that?” I whisper, looking into his eyes.
“What’s your name?” he asks, still holding me close.
“Sophie,” I tell him, my answer spoken behind my fingers.
His body is as hard as a rock against mine; I can feel every muscle, every contour, and it takes everything in me to keep breathing. I realize this is the first time in my life I have ever felt small, my curvy figure never having allowed it before.
“Sophie,” he repeats, standing up to his full height and pulling me with him. I look around and wonder if time has stopped for anyone else.  “My name is Nico.”
“Of course it is,” I say, staring into his amazing eyes, thinking that a guy who looks like him would have a name like that—cool and hot, something that rolls easily off your tongue but is hard to forget.
“I’ll see you when I get back into town, Sophie,” he says as he lets me go, making sure I’m steady on my feet.
“What?” I ask, looking around again.
“Here’s your phone.” He hands me my cell, and I’m still a little lightheaded when he starts to walk off again. I watch in a daze as he leaves, but then he turns around to face me from a few yards away.  “Sophie?”
“Yeah?”
“Change the picture on your phone,” he demands before he turns and disappears into the crowd.

Dream Cast
3.5 Stars

We are going to explore this thing between us. We are going to take it as slowly as you need, but you are not going to push me away. It’s not going to work. You push me, and I will push back.

Let’s be honest, if you’re looking for an unpredictable and angsty book with unbelievable sexual tension, you will not find that here. But yet as another reviewer, J, said, these books are like crack. Highly predictable, steamy, insta-pretty much everything crack. Yes I know I hate insta-anything, but for some reason it just works here for me. The Mayson brothers take their “boom” shit verra seriously. And when they feel it and set their sights on the woman? Well they go after them with the determination of a mac truck.

And once they catch them? Well, I swear these boys have the sperm with the accuracy of a heat seeking missile. So word to the wise, heroines

Just saying.

After practically devouring the last book, I was dying to get my hands on Nico. Deliciously tatted up Nico.

Did I also happen to mention the piercings? And I’m not just talking about his ears

Poor Sophie never stood a chance.

When she first meets Nico when he finds her phone and gives it back to her, sparks fly immediately.

But c’mon. That’s not really too surprising here.

Nico knows right away that Sophie is his boom, and he pursues her relentlessly. Not that she puts up much of a fight. Oh she has her doubts for maybe all of 2.5 seconds, but Nico certainly sets her straight on those.

You’re mine, Sophie. I don’t give a fuck what you think, or what the excuse it you try to give me, but you are mine.”

You won’t find anything here that you haven’t read before, but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it. Because I did. I really did. Nico was delicious. Its hard not to fall hard for these Mayson boys.

Plus with the few new faces that were introduced here, I was highly intrigued on where it would lead. Let’s say I’m even more excited about the spin off Aurora has in the works. I only ask that Lars is right after Kenton.

So why not 5 stars then? To be honest, after how much I loved Until Lilly, this one fell a bit short. I’m not saying I expect every book in the series to blow me away, but still. I thought this could have been a much shorter book, as some of it felt a bit drawn out and I found my interest waning toward the end. I loved the steamy sex scenes, but I wanted just a little more story. I’m not sure that all the craziness at the very end was necessary. I almost felt that it was just thrown in to spice things up or something? But really, it just had me rolling my eyes. The whole “bad guy” thing was highly predictable, and I knew right away who it was…and it still had me scratching my head at the necessity of it. Short of adding some drama to the mix, it brought absolutely nothing to the story for me.

The one thing that I really love about this series are the sugar sweet epilogues, and it certainly delivered on that end. I absolutely loved it. It was the perfect conclusion. I read it with a big goofy smile on my face. So while it wasn’t a 5 blow me away star read, it was still an enjoyable one and I’d gladly recommend it for fans of the series.

Now if I can just get my pervy little hands on Kenton’s book sooner… Because the teaser at the end had me going a little

Review: ☆On The Way Home☆ by Skye Warren

On the Way Home
Clint

For eight months I’ve been deep under cover as a special operator in the Army. On the plane ride home, all I want is a hot shower and a long sleep. But a Dear John text message leaves me stranded. I need a ride and a place to stay, and the pretty stewardess is more than willing.

Della

It’s supposed to be a simple trade—the passenger in seat 34B for my sister. But the sexy soldier is more than I can handle in all the best ways. He trusts me, but I can’t save him. No one can. Sometimes trouble has a way of following you home.

On the Way Home is a dark new adult romance intended for readers over eighteen.

Monsters came in all shapes and sizes. They wore custom designer suits and stewardess uniforms. They gave you a job as a stripper or went down on you to help you sleep, but those were just part of the lure. Because when you had learned to trust the monster, when you let your guard down, that’s when you got eaten.

This was my first book by Skye Warren, so I really wasn’t sure exactly what I would be going into. All I knew is that when I read that blurb, I knew I had to read this book. I’m a big fan of Dark Romance, and this sounded EXACTLY up my alley. Was it everything I thought it would be? Well….almost. Firstly, I can’t really say it was all that dark. It was more gritty. That’s not a bad thing at all, but still worth a mention.

Clint is returning home after 8 months of working deep under cover as a special operator in the Army. He doesn’t exactly have much to come back to since he received a Dear John text from his live-in girlfriend while still deployed. But he has high hopes that maybe they could still work it out…

Only to come home to see all his things packed up and to find out that she’s been cheating on him. Oh and did I mention that she’s trying to kick him out of his own place? Poor guy just can’t seem to get a break.

Luckily (or not quite so for Clint), the beautiful stewardess that caught his eye on the plane comes to his rescue.

Della is not at all what she appears to be, and her intentions towards Clint are anything but innocent. She’s supposed to be doing a job, a simple trade; Clint for her sister. But her plan gets a whole lot more complicated when she begins to have feelings for the sexy soldier.

This book could have easily been a 5 star read for me, if not for a few things…

The insta-love angle
I had a tough time understanding the almost immediate connection these two share. I mean, we go from them barely exchanging a few words on a plane to him staying at her place and fucking like bunnies…

Then Clint goes and shares confidential information from his deployment with her even though he has doubts about who she really is and the secrets she hides. Good job there, Mr. Undercover Man. But I suppose that fits his character.

Clint’s submissive nature in bed. This is NOT a BDSM book, not at all, but Clint is most definitely the submissive partner in bed. That’s certainly not quite my cuppa, so I had a tough time with this one.

He had some Alpha tendencies, but sadly they pretty much got lost within all the time he submitted to Della’s MUCH more aggressive sexual nature. Though, oddly enough, it was still pretty damn hot…even if it isn’t quite my cuppa.

The sex
To be fair, I feel like I should warn readers that this book contains (highlight to view spoiler)pegging[Pegging (hide spoiler)].(Spoiler) Yes. (view spoiler)pegging.(Spoiler)As in (view spoiler)Della sporting a strap on and… holy strap on butt sex, batman! (spoiler)

It fits the book and the story, HOWEVER, it is a tad out of my comfort zone. I don’t have a huge problem with it, and it was written pretty damn hot, but it’s not a preference of mine in books.

The suspense part of the story is really what won me over. I spent a large part of the book on pins and needles just waiting for that other shoe to drop.

I really enjoyed the twist that Skye Warren added in the end. I did not see that coming at all. I think that was the very last thing I expected to happen. Della’s character was a very intriguing one to me, too. The things that she’s been through are terrible, but she had this tough core to her that I really liked. You know what she has to do, and you want to hate her for it, but yet your heart breaks for her all the same.

I found it to be more an erotic suspense than dark, but that may be because I’ve been pretty desensitized to Dark Romance, so it takes a LOT for me to label it that genre. There were dark elements here, but not many. I’d say this was more gritty than dark. At least in my opinion.

Ultimately did I enjoy this book? Yes.
Is it something that I would have read had I known in advance about Clint’s sexual submissiveness? Probably not.
Am I glad I read it? Surprisingly, yes.
Is it something I see myself re-reading in the future? Probably not

Writing style: Dual First Person POV

Skyeauthorpic
Skye Warren writes unapologetic erotica, including power play or erotic pain and sometimes dubious consent. There’s struggle in the sex. There’s pain in the relationships. Her books are raw, sexual and perversely romantic.

Review: ☆Willing Victim☆ by Cara McKenna

For the past couple years Laurel’s been coasting, hiding in the backseat while her life drifts off course. Then one summer afternoon a tall, built bruiser named Flynn strides in and steers her straight into an infatuation she never saw coming.Flynn introduces Laurel to things she’s never imagined—to the violent but exciting realm of the underground boxing circuit, to rough sex and even rougher role-playing, and to an attraction she craves even as it intimidates her. As Flynn invites her deeper into his world and his life, Laurel has to make a choice—let fear keep her holed up where it’s safe, or take a chance and fight for the man who makes her feel more alive than she’d dreamed possible.

Reader Advisory: Although all sex acts are 100-percent consensual, Willing Victim contains role-playing scenarios that may upset some readers who are sensitive about rape, even in a simulated capacity.

I like fighting, and I like fucking. I don’t care much for thinking.

Oh sweet mother of orgasms! I had a very close and passionate relationship with my Kindle while reading this book

9371687If you’ve already met Flynn, you’ll know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

8247676And if you have yet to meet him? You already know what I’m talking about.

The man is lethal to your ovaries. I’m not even slightly exaggerating here. The description of Flynn alone got me all hot and bothered

He looked both lean and heavy, raw and bruised and tattooed and feral. Muscles sicced and jumped in this arms as he stripped cotton bandaging off his wrists and tossed it in the trash basket behind him.

9371688But then he opens his mouth…

God,Flynn”
“That’s right. Say my name. Tell me who’s fucking that tight cunt.”

9371689I recommend having either your significant other on hand, or plenty of batteries. This book may be short, but holy SHIT is it potent?

You have a hot, dirty talking, underground fighter that’s into some verra interesting things. You have a great heroine that’s not afraid to go after what she wants. You have mind blowing, incendiary sex scenes that will have you running towards the nearest cold shower. And you have dirty talk to beat all dirty talk. My only complaint? I wish this was a full length novel. I would have loved to get to know Flynn and Laurel better. It’s tough to form a true connection with characters in just 130 pages. I can’t say that I never did, but I was left wanting just a little bit more.

You get your trademark Cara McKenna HFN ending. But truthfully, considering the short span of time that this book takes place in, I couldn’t imagine it ending any other way.

Review: ☆His To Keep☆ by Katee Robert

He’s always wanted her. Now’s his chance to claim what’s his.

School teacher Marceline Bellini gave up everything—men, sex, anything resembling a social life—to raise her young daughter. To be the perfect parent. But when she attends an engagement party in her standard stick-in-the-mud mode, her friends begin plying Marcy with shots. Just enough to convince her that a little fun doesn’t sound like a bad idea… and having some naughty fun is an even better one.

Like finding herself deliciously pressed against a dark alley wall by the very familiar and very hot body of her best friend’s older brother.

After years of waiting in painful silence, police officer Aaron Robinson finally has Marcy’s attention. And man, does he have it. But nothing could have prepared either of them for the rush of fiery lust between them. So he’ll just have to convince Marcy he’s for real. And that a rainy, lust-fuelled romp is the first step to a lifetime of completely imperfect happiness…

He’s always wanted her. Now’s his chance to what’s his.

If you’re looking for a quick and steamy little read look no further than this novella.

This was a shortie but boy did it pack a steamy punch. It was a tad fluffy, a lot steamy, and great little appetizer to tide you over until the next Out of Uniform book (hopefully Drew’s)

After one too many shot’s at her friend Bri’s engagement party (you’ll remember Bri from In Bed with Mr. Wrong), Marcy decides to leave her pent up little existence for a night of decadence with the one man she never expected to giver her a second glance. She’s had a huge crush on the older Robinson brother since her teens, but when he rejected her back in high school, the last thing she expects is for him to proposition her years later.

Little does Marcy know that Aaron has always wanted her. She may be his little sister’s best friend, and she may have been too young for her back in the day, but she’s all woman now.

So in a haze of alcohol induced passion, they give into the inevitable…but now Aaron wants more.

Aaron wasn’t going to let this fade into memory and move on with his life. No, he had every intention of pushing his way into her life, though God alone knew what role he expected to play.

The last thing Marcy wants or needs is a man in her life right now. All she wants to consentrate on is her daughter. But Aaran has no trouble with trying to convince Marcy he’s the one for her, any means necessary…

There’s a whole lot of wall sex here. Outside the bar wall sex, inside a broom closet wall sex. There’s sex galore. I guess what I’m trying to say here, is this book had some verra hot sex.

And you’ll be getting no complaints from this girl.

Marcy did have her moments of stubborn bitchiness where I wanted to smack her for not seeing sense and being as callous as she was to Aaron at times. But Aaron managed to take my mind off of that most times.

Although nothing I see myself going back and re-reading, I did enjoy this one. It was quick, steamy, easy little read. The perfect filler for those in-between book times.

He was trouble, and I was the new toy he wanted to play with until it broke. I had no doubt it wouldn’t take much for him to break me, but I didn’t care. I’d be left with all the broken pieces with no clue how to put myself back together, but the trade-off might be worth it.

My first thought when I saw this book?
Holy shit, that cover!!!

I’m a total sucker for a hawt MMA fighter book, so once I was finished drooling all over that cover, I jumped at the chance to read this one. This was my first book by the author, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. If I’m being honest, I’m always scared when a book has a super hot cover, since the actual story rarely lives up to the promise. But I was certainly not disappointed here. I really enjoyed this book. There were a few minor issues that kept me from LOVING it, but I liked it a whole hell of a lot.

Bethany Bazile managed to capture my interest from the very first chapter. She starts the book going straight for your feels, and damn did it hit mine.

Alexis Cole is no stranger to tragedy. In one night she lost everything that’s she ever cared about. Now she’s in a haze of sorrow, not sure if she’ll ever see the light.

Ryder has always wanted Lexi, but he also knows that he can never have her. He fights the connection between them, but he can’t help but try to save her from drowning in her grief.

Now three years later, fate and meddling parents throw them into each others’ path again. But this time, the connection is just too strong for either of them to fight it.

Lexi knows that Ryder is bad news. He’s a heavyweight MMA champion, sexy as sin, and is definitely not lacking for women. But she can’t help the scorching sexual tension that only gets hotter each time they are together.

He was cocky and arrogant in a way that aggravated me, but sexy in a way that excited me.

His perfectly sculpted facial features were breathtaking, yet scary. Scary in an “I’m bad medicine” kind of way. The kind that promises you a cure for your suffering, only to get you addicted to something a lot worse that the original pain.

If you’re looking for a steamy book, this one delivers in spades!

Ryder was one deliciously sexy dirty talker, and I couldn’t get enough of him.

I won’t give you much more of the story, because I wouldn’t want to spoiler anything. But I can tell you that I like a good story to go along with the hot sex, and this one definitely delivered on that end.

So what kept it from being a 5 star read? A few things.

I found the dialogue to be choppy and confusing at times. There were times when I had to go back and re-read the sentence because I wasn’t quite sure who was talking since dual dialogues would be in one line.

“I’m going to take a shower.”
“Asshole.” I laughed. “Oh yeah, that’s how I like it. Are you mad?”

There were also a few lines that were definitely on the cheesy side.

“Please…” I pouted.
“There it goes. You haven’t changed after all.”
“What?”
“You’re pouting and trying to get your way. If I let you see my dick then you’ll want to touch it and then you’ll want to put your mouth on it, and how the fuck am I supposed to say no to that?”

I think the author meant for it to be funny (maybe) but for me, it just didn’t quite work

“That’s right, baby. Who’s the champion of this pussy?”
“You’re the fucking king of this pussy.”

I loved that this was in first person POV, and we got both Lexi and Ryder’s. But there were also times I felt like the story was being told to me as opposed to shown with some unnecessary explanations.

Shit. I’d been angry and said it in a way that made it seem like I’d used her, which wasn’t the case.

Now all that aside, this was still a great book. It was steamy, with an added element of suspense, and a great story to boot. It may not have been perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly read any future book from this author. I do tend to be a picky bitch when it comes to my books, so some of the things that bothered me in this one may not even bother most readers. If you’re looking for a scorching hot MMA book, I would definitely recommend this one.

I’d love to see this turn into a series and get a book for Ty and Shelby

Bethany Bazile reads, writes and lives in New Jersey with her husband and two amazing kids. Her passion for writing was born from a love affair between books and music.  She loves books that draw her in and won’t release her until she’s inhaled every word, panting with excitement. Then she realize the sun came up, but the lost of sleep was so worth it. When she isn’t reading, she’s conjuring up steamy love scenes, and hot romance stories to share with fellow romance lovers.

ARC Review: Twisted by Emma Chase

There are two kinds of people in the world. The ones who look first, and the ones who leap. I’ve always been more of a looker. Cautious. A planner. That changed after I met Drew Evans. He was so persistent. So sure of himself – and of me.

But not all love stories end happily ever after. Did you think Drew and I were going to ride off into the sunset? Join the club. Now I have to make a choice, the most important of my life. Drew already made his –in fact, he tried to decide for the both of us. But you know that’s just not my style. So I came back to Greenville. Alone. Well, sort of alone….

What I’ve come to realize is that old habits die hard and sometimes you have to go back to where you began, before you can move ahead.

TWISTED picks up two years after Tangled’s end, and is told from Kate’s POV.

3.5 Stars

You know that saying, “It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?”
That’s a crock. Whoever said it didn’t know a fucking thing about love. Ignorance is better; it’s painless.”

And truthfully, after the 35% mark, I’d rather have had the pie…

Last we saw Kate and Drew, they were together and basking in lots of post coital glow. I wasn’t really sure why a second book was necessary, but I loved Tangled and Emma Chase’s writing, so there was no question about me reading this one.

Now in reading that quote, you’re probably confused about what happens in this book for such a sharp turn around to be taken, right? And you’re now expecting me to tell you what happens, right?

Well dream on! Cause I’m not doing it. I’m sadistic like that, what can I say?

Let’s just say that Drew screws up. BIG TIME. And by big time, I mean he left me wondering

Tangled is told entirely in Kate’s POV. I was a little worried that nothing could possibly beat the awesomeness that was Drew in book 1. And you know what? You really can’t. But Kate’s POV came pretty damn close. Add in all the characters from the previous book, and there were plenty of laugh out loud moments,

Everyone- can I have your attention, please? Mackenzie has an announcement she’d like to make”
“My mom and dad had sex!”
The entire table is silent.
Until Matthew raises his glass.
“Congratulations, Steven. It’s like Halley’s Comet, right? You only get to come ever seventy-five years?”

I loved the first 35% of the book. I couldn’t get enough of it. And then somewhere after the 40% mark, it started to irritate me.

See, here’s the thing. I love angst in books. I’m a regular angst whore. But what I absolutely don’t like is manufactured drama.

What we have here is a HUGE misunderstanding that spans practically the entire book where all that can resolve it is one word. You’re probably thinking now. Wait!

One word? YES. One word.

As much as I wanted to lay the blame solely on Drew’s shoulders, I couldn’t. Because Kate was equal parts responsible for it.

Truthfully, it just felt way too drawn out.

But saying all that, I still liked the book quite a bit. I just didn’t love it. It was great catching up with all my favorite characters from the last book, and I’m practically salivating for Delores and Matthew’s story after the little teaser at the end of this one.

I loved getting more Drew and Kate, but I’m not sure that a full length book was really necessary here. I could have done with a novella. But hey, that’s just my opinion here.

New York Times best-selling author Cynthia Eden continues her dark and sexy “Mine” romantic suspense series with…MINE TO CRAVE.

Amazon I Barnes & Noble
3.5- 4 Stars

He was more than obsessed. He was lost in her. And if he didn’t stay away, while he could, he knew that Jasmine would never be free of him.

I’ve been waiting for Drake’s book since first meeting him in Mine to Keep. Nothing better than a broken, brooding alpha male that suffered the ultimate betrayal. I couldn’t wait to meet the woman that would bring him to his knees. Maybe the problem was that I set my hopes too high? I’m not sure. But for whatever reason, this book didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Like the rest of the Mine series, this book carries that possessive to the extent of obsession theme. The problem is that I didn’t understand the connection between Drake and Jasmine in the beginning.

Draka had almost lost his life TWICE due to a betrayal by a woman he trusted in the past. And that betrayal almost cost him everything. The man he is now is hard, cold, and doesn’t trust anyone. A successful owner of a casino, all Drake wants from his evenings is to find a woman so he can lose himself between her thighs for the night and move on to the next one. Until he spots her…

Jasmine is at Drake’s casino on a mission. As sexy as the man might be, she can’t afford to get distracted from her job. She needs to steal information and move on. But her mission suddenly takes a detour the second she gets into his office.

Here’s where things got a little muddy for me. Drake catches Jasmine in the act of trying to steal from him. He knows that she isn’t who she says he is, and he’s determined to get to the bottom of it. But he’s also feeling an incredible sexual pull towards the woman, no matter her duplicitous behavior.

When Drake discovers that nothing was in fact stolen, he lets Jasmine go. But he’s also determined to get answers to his question about what information she was after and who she’s working for. He follows her, saves her from an attacker, and then forces her home with him. Did I mention that he also still wants to sleep with her and protect her?

The woman just broke into your files, you saw her on cameras trying to steal from you, yet you allow her into your home? What proceeded to happen was a game of “I want you, but I don’t trust you. I’ll take you, but I still don’t trust you”. Drake pushes, so Jasmine pulls back. Then Jasmine pushes and Drake pulls back. I’ll admit I was somewhere between thinking it’s hot and being annoyed. I can’t decide which I was more.

As per usual Cynthia Eden fashion this book was fast paced, action filled, and steamy. Drake and Jazmine may have not have had the best communication, but the sexual chemistry between them was scorching.

The one thing that I loved about Cynthia’s previous books is this constant state of WTF is going on that you have reading her books. You think the story is headed one way then BAM, she throws the mother of all plot twists your way. That wasn’t the case here. You know pretty much right away who the bad guy is and why he’s after them. There’s not much guess work there aside from wondering how all these people are related.

Who is Jasmine really? What is Victor’s connection to Jasmine? How will they escape when the killer has them in their sight? But there was none of that plot twist that you don’t see coming, unless you count the whole Noah revelation.

I enjoyed this new addition to the Mine series, but it wasn’t my favorite. I still got my Cynthia Eden fix, so I can’t complain. I guess I just wanted a little bit more. Luckily there’s another book planned, and I can’t wait to find out who’s next. [I’d love a book for Saxon or Victor (hide spoiler)]
