A Night With Knox Teaser 2

Cheers rise from the club as the countdown to midnight begins.Ten…

The world seems to echo around us, as everyone joins in the proclaiming of the final moments of this year: people on the streets, in the club, even other rooftops. It’s as if all of Atlanta has turned out to celebrate. In the distance the peach rises above the crowd ready to drop.

Shelby leans over the railing, watching the people outside the club pair off as they get ready for a midnight kiss. I wasn’t expecting to find anyone like her in Atlanta, much less on the rooftop of my club. She looks over her shoulder at me, a silent dare in her eyes.

I snake an arm around her waist, enjoying the sound of her breath hitch. My fingers connect with her skin through the cutouts on her dress, pressing against her bare skin. It’s tempting to push the dress aside and explore more, but the dress locks her in fabric. She shivers, and I pull her closer to me.

“Happy New Year,” she says.

“You’re a little premature on that, sweetheart.”

I pull her tightly against me. She follows my command, pressing herself into me. Her hands move up my chest, grabbing hold of my blazer’s lapels. I know exactly how this night is going to end.

Her lips hover over mine, but I don’t move in right away. Shelby’s eager and waiting, breathless in anticipation of my touch. What man can resist such a sight?

Our lips meet. Fireworks rip through the night and the city roars with celebration, but that is so far removed from this moment. Kissing Shelby is a perfect curve ball. She’s soft and her grip tightens on my jacket as I slip my tongue into her mouth. She moans deep in her throat and I shift my arms, letting one hand settle over her perfect ass.

I pull back and she tries to reel me back in by my jacket. I study her face, beautiful, flushed, and alive. “You wanna get out of here?” I ask.

Her eyes glossy and lips still puffy from the kiss, she breathes, “Absolutely.”

His three-piece black pin-striped suit looked crisp and dark against his fair skin, and his white shirt and slate-gray tie shimmered in the glow of the light overhead.

I took a few steps forward. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

His eyes shot down to my feet, and I followed his gaze, remembering that I’d forgotten to put my heels back on.

“Always losing your shoes,” he commented, a smile curling his mouth.

I pursed my lips and turned around, snatching my heels off the seat and slipping them back onto my feet. Grabbing the back of the chair, I pulled it behind me and entered my classroom, knowing he’d follow.

“You came to my workplace unannounced,” he stated behind me. “I thought I would return the favor.”

I replaced my chair behind my desk and looked up, seeing that he had closed the door behind him.

“And?” I prompted.

“And I came to apologize,” he admitted, stopping a few feet in front of my desk. “I’ve been unfair, and I’m sorry. Christian has his phone back, so we’ll see how this goes.”

I stilled, my heart galloping in my chest, and I almost smiled.

I opened my mouth but had to swallow the lump before I could speak. “Well, that’s great,” I said, surprised. “Thank you.”

I guess I got through to him at his office.

He slid one of his hands into a pocket and narrowed his eyes on me, looking a little surprised.

“You seem very knowledgeable and determined.” His voice sounded genuine. “You’re an impressive woman, Ms. Bradbury, and I should’ve taken the time to understand your methods.”

I kept my shoulders squared, but my eyes dropped, embarrassment warming my cheeks.

“Thank you,” I mumbled, turning around to grab a dry-erase marker to start writing the schedule on the board for when then kids came back on Thursday.

“Christian talks about your class,” he said behind me. “I can tell your teaching interests him, even if he would never admit it.”

I uncapped the marker and rested my hand on the board but didn’t write anything.

“He really can’t stand me, can he?”

I dropped my hand to my side and spun around slowly, surprised by his question.

And feeling terrible all over again. I should never have said that.

No matter how much I thought I knew about him, they were nothing more than assumptions. Who was I to insinuate his son didn’t care for him or vice versa? And what gave me the right to say anything at all in the first place?

He breathed deeply, and for the first time since I’d met him, he looked unsure of himself.

“I was twenty when he was born,” he told me. “That’s no excuse, but it’s the only one I have.”

I was twenty-three, and I couldn’t imagine having a child right now.

I watched him and waited, not wanting to say anything or interrupt because I found I kind of liked it when he talked.

“I know what you think of me.” He looked me dead in the eye and then dropped his gaze, speaking in a voice close to a whisper. “And what he thinks of me.”

And then he let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “I don’t know why I even care what you think. You don’t give a shit about me, but I guess that’s what’s so intriguing.” He moved forward, his soft eyes turning to steel. “You’re so cold and distant,” he charged. “I guess I wouldn’t think anything of it if I hadn’t seen you so different at one time.”

I inhaled a shaky breath, looking down at his right hand. The same one that had held my waist while we danced.

I licked my lips, barely noticing him advance.

“You were flirty and fun.” His voice turned husky, and I looked up, seeing him round my desk slowly. “And you keep pissing me off, but it feels good,” he whispered, playing with me, drawing me in.

I knew that look in his eyes. I may not know much about him, but I knew that look.

And we were in my classroom.

His son’s classroom.

I may have had little shame, but he had none.

He cut me off. “Why won’t you ever say my name?”

I shook my head, confused. “Why do you care what I think?”

“I don’t,” he maintained. “I care that you don’t think of me at all.”

I narrowed my eyes on him, clenching my teeth. “That’s not . . .” I trailed off, plastering my back against the whiteboard as he hovered over me.

“That’s not what?” he pressed, his voice sounding strained.

He stood so close that I had only to lift a hand and I could touch him.

“That’s not true,” I finished.

He leaned in. “You look at me like I don’t matter.” His eyes searched mine. “And I don’t like it.”

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

I turned and stalked off, taking a left down the hallway toward the elevator. The doors opened as soon as I pushed the button, and I stepped inside, trying to calm my racing heart. They still intimidated me.

And excited me. And challenged me. And knotted me up.

I’d kind of wanted to go to a party but not with them.

The doors started closing, but just then a hand shot into the elevator, and I jumped, seeing the doors re-open. I sucked in a breath, staring wide-eyed as Michael reached in, grabbed my shirt by the collar with one hand, and pulled me out.

“Michael!” I shouted.

I stumbled into him, and before I knew what was happening, he grabbed my wrists and locked them behind my back, walking into me and forcing me backward, back down the hall toward the kitchen.

“Let me go!” I demanded, my lips brushing the tip of his chin.

“I don’t know, guys,” he teased over my head, “she still seems pretty fucking easy to push around. What do you think?”

Laughter greeted me as he forced me back into the living area.

Every muscle in my body was on fire, and the tips of my toes kept getting caught under his sneakers.

I twisted my body, trying to break his hold. “What the hell are you doing?”

I pushed against his chest and jerked my body to the left, tearing out of his hold with every muscle I could muster.

I stumbled, losing my balance, and fell backward, crashing to the floor. Pain shot through my ass, running down my legs as the fall knocked the wind out me.

Shooting my hands behind me, I pushed myself up and bent my knees, looking up at him as he advanced.

He stalked over and then stopped, towering over me. I immediately moved my hands and feet, crawling backward, away from him.

But then I felt something at my back, and I halted. I twisted my head, seeing a dark pant leg, and I didn’t know if it was Damon, Will, or Kai, but it didn’t matter. I was closed in.

Oh, no. I slowly raised my eyes, seeing Michael’s lips tilt in a devious smile. I stopped breathing, seeing him lower his body to the floor, planting his knees between my bent legs, and his hands at my sides.

My neck arched back as his face hovered over mine, but I tried to keep myself up as much as possible, no matter how close his body got.

“I thought you were one of us,” his whispered, his breath caressing my lips. “I thought you could play.”

I stilled, staring into his eyes.

You’re one of us now. Will had said that to me on that night so long ago.

Michael’s amber eyes searched mine and then dropped to my mouth, his breathing growing heavy as he stared at me like he was about to take a bite.

I wanted to cry. What the hell was going on?

Three years ago was nearly the happiest night of my life, and it quickly became the worst. And ever since then, Michael not only acted as if I didn’t exist, but also, at times, as if he wished I didn’t.

Now the guys were free, and they were all back together again. What did I have to do with any of this? What did he want with me?

“I don’t know this game,” I told him, barely audible.

He stared into my eyes, thinning his own as if studying me. “All you need to know,” he finally answered, “is that you can’t tap out.”

Series: L.A. Liaisons #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy
Author: Brooke Blaine
Release Date: November 11, 2015add-to-goodreads-button-2

As the owner of Licked, an eclectic ice creamery and bar, Ryleigh Phillips doesn’t have time for that love stuff. Serving up Nibble My Nuts sundaes and Drunken Sailor boozy shakes are as close to an orgasmic affair as she’s had in months thanks to her expanding empire—until the night of her ten-year high school reunion.

When Ryleigh’s crush, gorgeous ex-football god Cameron Mathis, comes streaking into her life (literally—streaking), she begins to wonder if she really can have it all.

Wouldn’t it just figure that the moment you think life is perfect is when it falls spectacularly apart?

Enter Hunter Morgan, the contractor in charge of Licked’s renovations. Devastatingly handsome, and a smartass to boot, he’s got his eyes on Ryleigh from the moment he finds her passed out on his couch (yeah, that’s a long story). There’s just one tiny complication—he happens to be Cameron’s best friend.

When the lines between relationships and friendships blur, and it’s impossible to choose between two delicious flavors, what’s a girl to do?  Taste a sample of each? Or go out and get LICKED?

“And then?”I tugged at the edge of my apron in an attempt to avoid the three pairs of eyes staring bug-eyed at me. “And then he walked me to my car.”

“And then you…?” Shayne asked.

“Went home,” I said.

“Wait a minute, can we talk about the fact that he made you sleep on his couch?” Paige’s eyebrows were raised up to practically her hairline. “I’m sorry, but in what fucking universe is that acceptable? Why didn’t you call Quinn to pick you up?”

“He didn’t make me, geez. He passed out and it was late, and I thought maybe…you know. Morning sex.”

Shayne cocked an eyebrow. “And did that happen?”

“Well, no. Hunter made me coffee, and then Cameron woke up and…that’s it.”

“Wait,” Quinn interrupted. “You slept in an apartment with two guys and both of them had you sleeping on the couch? Jesus, Ryleigh, it’s against man-code for that to happen. Did you wear a chastity belt last night or something?”

I groaned, my head falling into my hands. Of course the girls would give me a hard time. I’d been talking up tackling Cameron at the reunion for weeks, so my body wasn’t the only one feeling let down.

Still, I was seriously regretting inviting them over for a powwow at my shop during our off hours.

“I think I need another shot of vodka in my Feisty Ho-bag now.” Paige pushed her glass stemware toward me, and I grabbed a liquor bottle from behind the bar and tipped some into her glass.

Boozy shakes. They were the bread and butter of Licked during the brunch and evening hours, and the main reason for the expansion next door. I glanced at the black tarp hanging over the doorway that led to the space I’d bought a few months ago and sighed. Construction was running behind, and it was too late to hire another company if I wanted to keep the launch date set.

And I had to keep the date set.

“So are you seeing him again?” Shayne asked, dunking her cherry through the layers of baklava bits and whipped cream on top of her Nibble My Nuts shake. “I will totally get involved if I need to.”

No doubt she’d be successful. She basically ran one of the top matchmaking companies in the city, not that you’d know it from her degrading pay scale. Her boss was a fucking nightmare, but Shayne was convinced she had to pay her dues.

“I don’t need your expert skills this time, but thank you. He’s got my number, so…we’ll see.”

“You can’t just wait around for a guy to call,” she said.

“I’m not waiting. I’ve got all that”—I gestured to the ugly tarp that hid the mess behind it—“to deal with, so I’m actually quite busy at the moment.”

The three of them gave each other “the look.” You know, the one that said, We’ve got to help our poor little friend get laid so she doesn’t end up gorging on the ice cream and boozy shakes she makes and be relegated to spinsterhood.

“Guys,” I said, placing my hands on the counter as I stood in front of them. “I’m not on my way to spinsterhood. I just have priorities.”

“I’m sure you could squeeze Cameron Mathis in,” Quinn said with a wink. “Get it? Squeeze him in…”

“More like blow off the dust, grab a key, unlock that shit, and pray there are no bats,” Paige agreed.

Oh for fuck’s sake. “All right, no more booze for either of you.”

About the Author

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her quiet time. Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas. Flash Point is Brooke’s debut solo novel, and she is the co-author of the erotic serial, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts. Licked, a romantic comedy, will be released on November 11th, 2015. If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find – just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

Lake and I never had a chance at normal. She was drop dead gorgeous from day one – our maid’s granddaughter who became my mother’s spoiled living doll. I hated that girl with all my heart and at the same time, I worshipped every inch of her skin, every word that she spoke. I lived for her and the twisted game of truth or dare we created to feed our f***ed up needs for shock, shame and one-upping each other. Lake was my drug, my bad lifestyle choice.

And I’d fallen in and out of love with her a thousand times till the day she disappeared.

I know I ruined Callum Pike and going back to New York may be the worst decision I’ve ever made, which is saying a lot. But I’m willing to risk it. I never wanted to leave and now that I can, I’m going back – to be with the man I made, who made me. I know I screwed him up. I know he’s hardened and become cold. I know the love we had is gone. But I need him now more than ever and no matter how much it hurts, no matter what kind of sick or satisfying way he decides to torment me, I’m going to fight through it.

I’m going to repent for the way I broke him and I’m going to find the Callum Pike I loved again – even if it tears me apart.

**a standalone novel**

I spent another few minutes outside after he went back in.  Five, maybe ten.  I couldn’t get this one memory of Lake out of my head because it was the epitome of our love and hate.  It was ages ago – the first summer back from college – but I still remembered the day in my old bedroom.  Rolling my eyes, clenching my teeth and cursing her out while I jerked myself off.

I’d told her to stop.  That I’d catch her if she stole from my old room again.  The first time had been with cufflinks I didn’t care about but I couldn’t overlook it when nights later, the Rolex Submariner disappeared from my dresser.

I knew it was Lake but my suspicions were shot down.

“You’ve always had a habit of misplacing things.”  My mother said it as quick as she could because we both knew the opposite was true.  I needed things neat, uncluttered.  I had a system for everything and a habit of cleaning during shitty moods.  Elena used to joke that she should piss me off if she ever wanted me to do her job.  She dubbed me a neat freak and my mother agreed but if it supported her image of Lake, she was happy to flip-flop on her opinion.  “She would never steal, Callum.  She has her own credit card.”  A quick summary of how blindly she loved and spoiled that girl.

I was pissed.  And Lake faked innocence, as usual so I installed a camera in my room and genuinely hoped that she’d try to steal from me again.

A week went by before the third strike.  A tie.  Ivory satin Brioni.  I never wore it but it was the first one in my pull out rack and I’d seen it the night before so I practically fucking salivated when I noticed that it was gone.  I knew it had to be Lake so I dialed back the footage from my camera and practically sprung wood when I found the exact moment she snuck in my room and took it from my drawer.  I had her.  I had everything I needed to prove that she was behind that string of missing shit in the house.  I could expose her, invalidate every other time she’d pinned the blame on me.

But instead of sneaking my tie out of the room, Lake took it onto my bed.

I watched her lay it down, put her hands on her hips and narrow playful eyes at every corner of the ceiling till she guessed the spot where I hid the camera.  I sneered when she blew a kiss.  Kneeling on the bed, she tossed her hair behind her shoulders and hooked her finger into her V-neck.  I stared.  I stopped blinking as she started pulling down, down, slowly, till the V was just above her navel, the cotton straining thin against the shape of her perfect tits.  They were threatening to burst out and pissed as I was, I prayed to see them spill.  Fuckin’ Lake.  I had my face inches from my screen now, my lip curled but my dick hard.  I couldn’t remember when I’d whipped it out and started stroking.  All I knew was that I couldn’t stop.  A minute ago, I was seething, waiting to humiliate and expose Lake as a liar.  But suddenly, I was living for her little striptease.  Every hot second of it.  I breathed heavy when she turned around and got on all fours.  She lowered herself slowly, her stretched out T-shirt sliding up her gorgeous, toned back.  I stroked faster when she pressed her cheek to my mattress and stuck her ass in the air, using two hands to wiggle slowly out of her terry cloth shorts, till they were down her thighs and around her knees.  Her wavy hair fanned out in a dozen heart shapes over my sheets.  I wanted to feel them entwined in my fingers.  I wanted so bad to suck on her bottom lip.  The whole time, she peered over her shoulder at the camera, biting it back and looking at me with such wicked fucking mischief that my muscles flexed with the physical need to find her, grab her and pin her to the bed.  “See, asshole? You like it.”  Her eyes had such an uncanny way of expressing her thoughts it was irritating.  I could practically hear Lake saying those words and I hated how vividly I could picture her voice.  Of course at the same time, I loved it.  “Come for me, Callum.  All over me.”  I imagined Lake saying it, her full lips wrapping tight around every lusty “m” and adding a “please” since I so rarely heard that word coming out of her mouth.

Once she was down to her panties, she reached into them.  I gripped the edge of my desk.  I watched her touch herself, her eyes squeezing tighter shut with every stroke.  I knew she was close when her jaw dropped wide open.  I could see the bliss twisting in her face and I was fucking high on it.  I loved the way she looked.  Every expression she made.  I loved how deep her fingers dug into my mattress, how tight her toes flexed as she got closer.  She was almost there and I was just waiting for it with the purest, hottest lust in the world.

The second her knees clamped shut, I came like an animal, pleasure churning through me as I grunted a string of profanity dedicated solely to her.

And the next day, the white tie was back on the rack.

I had to give it to her for that one.

Because Lake could fuck with my head in ways I never knew possible and it wasn’t even like she was trying.  It was just instinct, the way she naturally was.  Thanks to her, I’d found out early on that some women were just designed to drive men up the wall and leave them standing around clueless, angry and hornier than hell.

Love Burns where I want to be
About the Author
Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.
A nursing student, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met.
Love Hurts is her debut novel and she is currently working on the next in the series along with whatever other voices are clamoring for attention in her mind.

cash final cover

The minute any woman walks into my bar, I can tell two things about her: what she wants to drink, and how she likes to f*ck.

I’m Cash: bartender at the hottest bar in Atlanta. I’ve got girls lining up around the block, and they all know the rules: no strings, no promises, and no morning-after snuggling. You want brunch? Call your sister. You want the best sex of your life? Call me. Or better yet, just drop by the bar anytime. Clothing optional.

There’s a reason they call me a sexy bastard.
And yes, I really am that good.

“So no dating for Cash Gardner?” Savannah reaches for the edamame beans and teases one free from the skin.
“Interested in my dating life?”She shrugs with a bashful grin. “You know all about mine.”This is probably why I’ve put off dating as long as I have, because at some point a girl like Savannah is going to start asking questions.
I try to keep things light. “You think I have no standards.”
“Standards… or direction,” she offers. And coming after a million other digs about my bachelor lifestyle, I can’t let this one go.“Always have to be heading somewhere, don’t you?” I ask. “So what is this, then? Dinner between friends? Dinner between more than friends? A date?”

That stumps her. Savannah for once cannot find a quick comeback. She may play the prim and proper lawyer, but I’m sure she’s just as ready to cut loose as the rest of us.

“What do you want it to be?” she asks.

“That’s not up to me, is it? It takes two to make this work.” I fix my gaze on her, not letting her eyes fall away. “Sometimes you need to let go of what’s holding you back, dragging you down.”

“And what do you think is holding me back?” she asks, her gaze turning cautious. I know she’s expecting me to bring up that asshole Tanner, but he’s not the problem right now.

“That whip-smart brain of yours. You’re thinking too much,” I tell her.

She laughs. “You prefer your women brainless?”

“No, I’m saying, you overthink things, it’s what you do. You’re a lawyer, you’re used to making arguments, being logical. But some things aren’t about logic. They’re instinct. Heat. Chemistry.”

I slide a hand under the table and find her bare knee. I stroke the soft skin gently. Savannah inhales in a rush, so damn sexy it’s hard to keep control.

“You got your heart broken, so now you’re trying to play it safe. It’s why you’re so obsessed with this idea of finding something real, a stable relationship,” I tell her, still tracing slow circles on the inside of her knee. “But did you ever think that might be the last thing you need? Whatever happened to following your gut? Taking something because you want it. Because you need it.”

My hand traces higher. Savannah’s eyes glaze. Her knees part, allowing my fingers to edge further up under her skirt.

I can see her breath coming faster now. “What if I want something I shouldn’t have?” she whispers.

“Shouldn’t?” I echo, still fighting to keep it together. Damn, the feel of this woman’s silky thighs has blood rushing straight to my cock. “Says who?”

Savannah shrugs. “Cassie. Ryder. You.”

“You keep telling me, you don’t do relationships. You just like to fuck and run.”

I grit my teeth. “I can promise you, Savannah, after I’ve fucked you the way you deserve to be fucked, both of us are going to be too spent to be running anywhere.”

Her eyes flash. She bites her lip, and I can see the desire warring in her eyes. She’s on the edge, ready to leap.

The least I can do is make it easy for her.
