Excerpt

“Analise, you need to wake now, my child.”
“No.” She didn’t want to wake. She wanted to stay in the comfort and safety of her dream world with her guardian angel. In the real world, she was weak, but in her dreams she was powerful. As powerful as Mara. She could manipulate the elements. Rain fire with a thought. Dig a hole with nothing but her mind. Pop a lock by blinking.

“I’ll be waiting for you as always, child. But now you need to wake. Analise, your destiny awaits.”

Destiny? What destiny?

That was her last thought before consciousness grabbed her again.

And she wished it hadn’t. Her head hurt like a mother. It felt like someone was playing the drums on the inside of her skull. She moaned, reaching up to touch the offending wound. What happened?

A rough hand gently stroked her cheek and she vaguely registered someone talking. Muffled music played in the background.
“She’s coming around,” someone said.

“Thank fucking Christ.” Whose deep, sensuous voice was that?
Her eyelids cracked open, vision slightly blurry. She blinked several times to clear it.

When she’d lived on the streets, one of her favorite escapes was window-shopping. She’d lose herself in a dream that she could afford the luxurious clothing mocking her from behind the thick glass. And that once her day of self-indulgence was over, she would have a loving home to return to. On one such day, she saw the most beautiful man she’d ever laid eyes on. He was tall, handsome, clearly fit. He oozed masculinity and sexuality. She often wondered if she’d dreamt him up for she’d never seen anything like him before or since.

Until now. The man staring into her eyes—the same man from the club—made window guy seem like Weird Al Yankovic.

He had piercing dark eyes, almost like onyx. Thick, dark waves framed his face, almost hanging in his eyes a bit as he looked down at her. And his face…how could she possibly describe to anyone the most perfectly exquisite face she’d ever seen?

His eyebrows were textbook manly, dark and thick. Sharp, high symmetrical cheekbones framed a perfect, masculine nose. His lips were full and plump, with a cupids bow gracing the top one. They were completely kissable. A five o’clock shadow rounded out the sexy package. He was the most flawless thing she’d ever seen. He was an angel. Or the devil in disguise.

“Are you okay, princess?” The Adonis was speaking. To her.

“Ummm…” Was she okay? She needed an aspirin, badly.“What’s your name, princess?”

“It’s Ana.” Frankie? In looking around, she was in an office of some sort, lying on a soft leather couch. Frankie, Adonis, and another extremely attractive, but very scary-looking man were all watching her intently. She moved to sit up, feeling extremely vulnerable in her prone position.
“Whoa there. You hit your head pretty hard. You should lie still,” Adonis said.

She ignored him, pushing herself up anyway. Bad idea. Her head throbbed and her vision blurred again. Were there now two Adonises? Hell, she could live with blurry vision if that were the case.

“Ana, are you okay? What happened?”

She was suddenly very angry. “My name is Analise. Not Ana. Not princess. And I’m fine. I just need a minute here. And possibly an aspirin.” Or twelve.

“Analise. That’s a lovely name.” The reverent way her name rolled off Adonis’s tongue almost made her orgasm. Oh my God. What was wrong with her? She’d never reacted like this to a man. She had to get the hell away from him immediately.

“Uh. On second thought, I’m fine. I’ll just be going now.” Just as soon as the spots in her vision cleared. She tried to stand and was gently pushed back down by Adonis.

“You’re not going anywhere, kitten. I have a doctor coming to look at you and he’s still a good ten minutes out.”

She couldn’t believe her ears. He’d called a doctor? She couldn’t afford a damn doctor. And kitten? She should be furious! Instead, she was oddly turned on by the endearment. And she loathed endearments. In the past, when uttered by another man they seemed nothing but demeaning, but out of his mouth it was like a hot breath between her legs.

“Look…” she realized she didn’t even know his name. Even if she did, it would always be Adonis.

“Damian. Damian DiStephano,” he offered, a slight smirk upturning his lips in the most deliciously erotic way.

Wow, even his name was supremely sexy. Stop it Analise!“Damian. Look, Damian, I appreciate the concern, but I don’t need a doctor. I must have locked my knees and passed out. That’s all. I’m perfectly fine.” Not exactly true, but she would be. She just needed some meds and a good night’s sleep. And the way she was beginning to ache between her thighs, maybe some self-relief.

“I’m not letting you leave, kitten. End of.” She’d thought it intimidating when he’d stood over her, but once he took a seat beside her—so close he was touching—she was completely overwhelmed, her brain short-circuiting.

Her body tingled where his leg connected with hers. Her breaths became choppy and shallow. She ached in a place she hadn’t in, well…ever. She was both captivated and scared shitless. Until she saw the smug look on his face, then anger reared her ugly head once again. A quick temper was just one of her many personality flaws.

She stood and quickly regretted it as the room began to tilt. Adonis—Damian —caught her before she fell and settled them back on the couch, but now she was cradled in his lap—on his lap!—his strong arms surrounding her.

“What the hell are you doing?” She tried pushing away, albeit her effort was weak given the head-splitting sensation threatening to make her brain explode.

“I’m protecting you from yourself, kitten. I told you that you needed medical attention and you can do it the easy way or the hard way. Your choice.” He lowered his voice, lips brushing the shell of her ear as he whispered, “And personally I hope it’s the hard way, because I’ve never felt as good as I do now with you in my arms.”

Holy panty-dropping, Batman. He did not just say that, did he?

She scrambled off his lap, taking a seat the end of the couch, needing to put as much distance between them as possible. His knowing smile lit up the entire room. His smile had effectively morphed him into a super-sized Adonis.

His smile was like the sun.

Warm.

Inviting.

Intense.

Dangerous.

And that was bad. Super bad. He stirred feelings in her she never knew existed. She wasn’t a virgin, sadly, but she also couldn’t remember feeling passionate desire like this ever in her life. And that’s what scared her the most. She didn’t let anyone under her armor. But somehow, he was a chink. A small chink that she needed reinforcements against. Quickly.

Mara’s parting words tumbled in her head like clothes in a dryer. “Your destiny awaits.” Surely she didn’t mean this man…did she?

“Fine. I’ll let the doctor take a look.” She wouldn’t win the argument against him so she’d just figure out later how to pay the two hundred-dollar bill. Maybe the club would pay it so they didn’t worry about her suing them. Not that she would do that.

“Frankie, why don’t you take Rom on a tour of the club? Introduce him to Angel. We’ll be just fine in here until the doc arrives.” Damian never looked away from her, even though he spoke to Frankie.

“Uh…I should probably stay here with Ana. I mean, Analise,” he stuttered.

That got Damian’s attention right quick. He stood and next to Frankie she realized just how tall and intimidating he really was. He was at least six and a half feet tall.

He was huge. He was broad. He was muscled.

He was perfection.

Her mouth was suddenly very dry. What she wouldn’t give to run her hands all over his perfectly honed body. Where the hell that errant thought came from, she had no clue.

“That’s not necessary, Frankie. Analise will be just fine with me. Go.” Frankie scrambled for the door, clearly intimidated by Damian. Who wouldn’t be? She had no shame in admitting she was…just a little.

“Rom, I’ll meet you back at the house. Enjoy your evening.”

Good-looking, scary guy number two simply nodded. Had he said a word the entire time he’d been in here? She didn’t think so.

They both left and, as Damian turned back to face her, the air was sucked out of the room. She could hardly breathe as she shamelessly raked her gaze over his sinewy body. Dark denim molded powerful thighs. Rolled sleeves on his black-and-gray-striped button-down revealed tan, tattooed skin. The top two buttons of his shirt were left undone and the smooth skin of his chest nearly made her weep. Oh my lord.

When they locked eyes, he stared at her with such intensity, such desire, she felt like his next meal. She swallowed, unable to speak. Busted. He knew the effect he was having on her. She watched him deftly walk back over to the couch, sitting right beside her…again.

“So, kitten, how are you feeling?”

“Why do you keep calling me that?” It did funny things to her insides and she wanted that to stop. Right? Yes, absolutely. And next time she’d say it with much more conviction.

Another panty-dropping smile showed his perfectly straight white teeth. “You’ve got some claws on you, kitten. I like it.”

She sat there with her mouth open but, not knowing how to respond, closed it. Was that a compliment? She wasn’t sure but decided to let it go. After tonight, she wouldn’t see him again, so no reason to start a verbal war.

She needed something else to do besides ogle him and fantasize, so her gaze fell on the expansive office. She hadn’t remembered seeing an office like this upstairs. “Where are we?”

“We’re in the owner’s office.”
The owner? Devon Fallinsworth. He knew Devon? Did that mean he was a vampire too? Was this a stroke of luck or what? Maybe she needed to be just a bit nicer to Damian so she could get some information.

“You know Mr. Fallinsworth?” She tried not to sound too curious as to not arouse suspicion.

His lips drew into a thin line, glaring at her for several uncomfortable seconds before responding. “Do you know Mr. Fallinsworth?”

Was it her imagination or did his question drip with sarcasm? “No. I just thought maybe I’d get to meet him since he owns the club. I just started a couple of nights ago.”

“Well, I’m sorry, kitten. Dev is on his honeymoon. I’m watching the club in his absence.” Heavy emphasis was placed on the word honeymoon.

Honeymoon? Shit. And if he was watching the club that meant he probably was a vampire also, as she couldn’t imagine a Vampire Lord would leave his club under the watch of just anyone. Now what was she going to do?

“You look a little distraught, kitten. Have your sights set on him, did you?” His voice dripped with disdain, which only served to fuel her anger.

“Fuck you. Of course not. I simply wanted to meet the owner of this great night club, that’s all.” So what if it was only the partialtruth? She was so out of here. She stood to leave and was halfway to the door when he grabbed her arm, twirling her to face him. His face was full of anger…and lust. Butterflies took flight low in her belly and the warmth between her legs intensified.

“Let. Go.”

He didn’t say a word, walking them backward until her back was flush against the door, arms held overhead by her wrists. She was trapped. She started to panic, twisting to get away.

He held fast, leaning down to run his nose along her cheek before nibbling her ear. “Do you know what he is, kitten? Does that turn you on?”

“W-What are y-you talking about?” She was turned on, but not for the reasons he was thinking. It was because of him and him alone. She couldn’t catch her breath as he continued to run his nose along her ultra sensitive skin.

“Did you want him to fuck you? Is that why you wanted to meet him, Analise?” He nipped her earlobe hard, then soothed the hurt. Oh God. Her core went liquid. She wanted to kick him in the balls almost as much as she wanted him to ravage her.

“You’re an asshole,” she managed to say, pretty convincingly even. He pulled back, his eyes flitting between hers and her lips.

She had met him only minutes ago. Why was she so irrationally attracted to this man? Or vampire? Why didn’t the fact that he wasa vampire scare the shit out of her? Because he’d woken something inside me I’d thought long dead.

Your destiny awaits.

“So I’ve been told.” He leaned down, slowly. Oh, so achingly slowly. He was going to kiss her. She should turn her head. She should bite his lip.

But she did neither; every last vestige of common sense had simply evaporated. Instead, she wet her lips in preparation as she watched him bring his mouth to hers.

The kiss started out soft, slow, gentle. Hot breath teased her skin as his skilled mouth took her upper lip first, paying equal attention to its mate. His tongue ran along the seam of her mouth, demanding entry, which involuntarily opened for him. Now her whole body was in on the treachery.

As soon as their tongues met, the kiss turned wild, passionate. His hold tightened on her, almost painfully so. He ravaged her mouth, exploring every nook, every cranny. She couldn’t get enough. She wanted to crawl inside him and live there forever.

He tasted like danger.

Sex.

Sin.

His free hand ran up her side, cupping her breast. He kneaded its fullness, plucking her aching nipple to a hard point under the thin fabric of her dress. They both moaned in pleasure. His pelvis ground into her stomach and she felt the evidence of how much he wanted her. Her lower body moved in time with him and she rose on her tiptoes to align them better.

A knock on the door scared the crap out of her and the moment evaporated. While Damian had stopped kissing her, he hadn’t given her any quarter. Bodies still touching, breathing erratic, he leaned his forehead against hers. His jaw ticked; his body was strung tight as a bow; blatant lust was barely checked. His sinewy body holding her firmly in place, he stared intently into her eyes, a faint glow in his. Definitely vampire. This man—vampire—wanted her. Her. It was a heady feeling.

He was commanding, yet gentle. She felt safe physically, but in danger emotionally. He exuded darkness, but his light shone brilliantly. The dichotomies made her head spin so fast she couldn’t latch onto a coherent thought.

“Coming,” he thickly answered when another knock sounded. He slowly moved away from her body, the loss of warmth chilling her to the bone. While he’d let her arms go, he linked their fingers, eyes boring into hers. She tugged to get free, but his grasp tightened.

“Big D.” He nodded in greeting to the interloper as he opened the door.

Big D? What kind of a name was that?

Damian led her to the couch again, gesturing that she should sit. Refusal sat on her tongue. She’d never been good at following directions. Instead, she did his bidding, all the while berating herself. He took a seat beside her, thigh to thigh, of course. The doctor came to sit in front of her, bag in hand. He was classically handsome, but didn’t hold a candle to Damian. No, he was one of a kind.

She tried not to reflect too much on what just happened or she just might go into a full-blown meltdown. How far would she have let her hot and heavy make out session go if they hadn’t been interrupted? Would she have stopped herself at second base? God…she’d just let a complete stranger feel her up against a door. At her workplace! Uh, Analise…what in the hell were you thinking?

“How are you feeling, Analise?”

“Um, I’m fine. Thank you. Really, I’m a lot better now. Just a slight headache.” Slight was an understatement. Someone had inserted a pic ax inside her skull and it was trying to get out.

“That’s good. If you don’t mind, though, I’m going to do an exam. You did lose consciousness for a brief period and that could mean a slight concussion.”

Oh crap. She hadn’t thought of that.

“Do you have someone at home to watch you in the event of a concussion?” He asked as he dug into his bag for the necessarily supplies.

No. No, she did not. “Uh….”

“I’ll take responsibility for her,” Damian quipped. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She whipped her head in his direction. Bad idea in retrospect as the black spots returned and Damian’s face looked like it’d been splattered with paint.
“What? Hell, no.” Oh, hell to the n-o!

“Oh hell, yes, kitten. You can’t be left alone with a concussion. It’s the rule.”

Was he even listening to himself? “Rule? Whose rule? Yours?”

“No, kitten. It’s a medical fact.” Damian had a most serious look on his stunning face. He truly believed the bullshit he was spouting.

“Stop. Calling. Me. That. And, no. You will not stay with me.”

“Why don’t we do the exam first before we argue about this, okay?” Finally. The voice of reason by the only medical professional in the room.

“Yes, okay.” Analise calmed slightly. They were quiet as the doctor checked her pupils and the tender bump on her head. He then asked a bunch of questions.

Did she have a headache? Yes.

Did she remember hitting her head? No.

Were her ears ringing? Slightly.

Was she tired? Um, yes. It was probably close to eleven by now, right?

Was she confused? Did letting a stranger feel her up count? Good, she’d used her inside voice. Her outside voice replied no, she wasn’t confused.

Did she know what caused her to black out? No way in hell was she admitting the truth to that question, what with Mr. I-Have-The-Biggest-Ego-Ever sitting right next to her, so she stuck with the lie she’d told earlier. Yep, locked knees. Finally, he took her blood pressure. Which was high. Go figure. Was it anger or lust fueled? Probably both. The second time was closer to normal.

“So, what’s the conclusion, doc?” Damian asked, breaking the silence.

“I’m sorry, Analise, but you do have a slight concussion. Your pupils are not responding as quickly as they should. You’ll need someone to stay with you for the next twenty-four hours at least, waking you every couple of hours this evening to ensure you don’t have any issues doing so.”

She looked at Damian, who had a big smirk upturning his full, sexy lips. With great surprise, she suddenly realized she hadn’t cringed once at his multiple touches. Huh?

Well…shit.

Don’t miss the first book in the series

“It’s best if we just keep this casual, Dev.”To feisty, relationship phobic Kate Martin’s utter surprise, she isn’t automatically dismissed as a crackpot when she finally plucks up courage to walk into a police station, revealing what she’s seen in her dreams. But instead of making a simple statement and returning to her nice, quiet life, she finds herself the center of attention from both a psychotic vampire and the ‘investigative specialist’ who would die in order to protect her.

“You’re anything but casual, Kate. I want you and I always get what I want.”

Young women are disappearing across the country and Devon, Regent Vampire Lord of the Midwest, knows his centuries old archenemy has finally resurfaced. A break in his fruitless search is provided by the discovery of a woman who can not only see the missing in her dreams, but who ends up being his Moira, his Destiny. And she couldn’t have stepped into his world at a more inopportune time, for she is now the prime target for his nemesis.

Protecting her heart would prove to be her biggest challenge.

Devon may be the sexiest, most sinfully erotic man she’s ever met, and he stirs passion in her like no one else before, but he’s an entanglement Kate does not want or need. While it becomes impossible to deny their mutual desire, once the case is solved and the missing women are found, Kate fully intends to return to her boring life, alone.

At least that’s what she thinks.

Excerpt

“You’re not exactly a ten, Katie.” Grayson laughed cruelly, reminding Katie why she left to begin with. “No one is going to love you for your mind like I do, not in this town. I’m your best option, and I don’t understand why you did this to us.”

“I think she’s a ten,” a man called from behind them.

Goose bumps danced over Katie’s skin, and she wasn’t sure why until she craned her neck to look toward the direction of the low, male voice. Her body must have recognized what her mind hadn’t caught up with, because walking over to them was Marcos Rivera. He was wearing sunglasses and a baseball hat, but it was undeniably him. She could see the snake tattoo on his arm from there.

He looked larger than life in the late afternoon sun with those impossibly broad shoulders and large, bunched biceps covered in tribal tattoos. She couldn’t help but notice that every inch of him seemed wound tight and ready to jump—like a tiger stalking prey. She blinked, understanding for the first time all those warnings Jules had been leveling at her in regards to Marcos.

This wasn’t the kind, handsome angel from the crash site.

This Marcos looked deadly.

He took off his sunglasses when he stopped in front of them. His light gaze rested on the steely grasp Grayson still had on her arm. “This is the part where you let her go.”

“Excuse me?” Grayson huffed in that annoying superior voice of his that had always embarrassed Katie when he used it in public, usually toward someone parking their car or waiting on them at a restaurant. “This is my wife and—”

“Ex-wife,” Katie corrected before Grayson could finish. She was still staring at Marcos in shock, unable to believe he was really standing there in front of her. “What are you doing here?”

Marcos broke the dangerous staring contest he was having with Grayson. He let his gaze run over her hotly for one long moment, making more goose bumps dance over her arms. A small bit of the tension eased out of his powerful frame, and the look in his beautiful eyes became warm just like she remembered. “I got your messages.”

“My messa—” Katie cheeks heated when she realized what he was talking about and her voice was a squeak of acknowledgement. “Oh.”

There was a quiet moment between them, one charged enough that Katie was actually breathless to be in his presence again after so long. Strangely enough, she could feel it off Marcos too. That electric fission of need so overwhelming it actually showed on his face and translated into something tangible enough that even someone as romantically challenged as Katie could sense it. As if remembering they weren’t alone, Marcos cleared his throat and turned back to Grayson, his eyes narrowed in warning once more.

“Yeah, I’m gonna have to insist you get your hands off her.” He eyed Grayson’s hold on her arm pointedly. “Now.”

#TheSlayer is coming! Countdown Series Spotlight & #Giveaway with @Kele_Moon

We’re up to week 3 of my Kele Moon Spotlight and countdown till The Slayer. Speaking of The Slayer, have you seen the absolutely lick worthy cover for it along with the full synopsis? You can check it out HERE! But please be prepared to lick your screens. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉

If you missed my previous posts, last month I was incredibly lucky to read a super early ARC of The Slayer and It. Blew. Me. Away. It was one of the best books I’ve read to date. Period. And also one of the best books Kele’s ever written. Considering I’ve loved pretty much every book on her back list, that’s REALLY saying something. I can’t even describe to you all the amount of feels, the swoons, and the hot flashes that Chuito gave me, so I won’t even try. The Slayer will be released on March 31, and I’ll be sharing lots of teasers with you guys in the meantime.

But before you get to get your grabby little hands on MY Chuito (uhem), I want to take you all back to the series that started it all for me; The Battered Hearts. Each week I’ve been spotlighting a different book from that series, which all leads up to Untamed Hearts with The Viper & The Slayer. In case you’re curious, you don’t necessarily need to read The Battered Hearts series before Untamed Hearts and each book has a different couple. I would still highly recommend reading Battered Hearts first simply because it’s a fantastic series and each of the characters from that series continues to appear in Untamed Hearts. You’d enjoy and appreciate every book that much more if you read them in order.

For those of you that haven’t yet read the Battered Hearts series, don’t forget to enter the Giveaway below. You’ll get a chance to win every book in the series or a $10 Amazon gift card!

So let’s continue, shall we, with my absolute favorite book in the Battered Hearts series: Crossing The Line. If you haven’t read the previous 2 books in this series and plan on reading The Slayer, I highly recommend starting with Crossing the Line and following it with The Viper. This is the book that really sets everything in motion and it’s simply a MUST READ second chance love story. You can check out my review for it HERE

Despite the danger, Tabitha is powerless against the wild rush of desire that explodes between them the moment she finds herself in Wyatt’s arms again. She needs a second chance too, but she can’t risk Wyatt finally discovering the real reason she left.

Even for another taste of true love.

Tabitha knows her haunted past will destroy both of them if Wyatt finds out. What she suffered through was too terrible and it’s the one thing that will have him crossing the line for revenge.

Tabitha retched so hard and for so long, she felt like she was ripping all the pain of her soul out through her stomach, and even then it wasn’t enough. The rain fell harder, soaking her hair as the thunder rolled. Lightning cracked in the distance, illuminating the gray sky. It’d be just her luck to get struck. She certainly didn’t see how things could get much worse than they were at that moment.

As soon as she formed the thought, it was shattered with the short, impatient sound of a police siren. The flash of red and blue colored the pretty lavender and white flowers around her. The groan of a big police vehicle pulling up behind her car made it obvious she wasn’t going to be left to wallow in her misery. Welcome back to Garnet, where nothing was private and everything was up for public entertainment.

This was truly unbelievable, and Tabitha found herself saying a prayer, out loud, just to make sure any celestial being in the near vicinity heard her, because the situation was that desperate.

“Please don’t let it be him,” she whispered frantically, her voice hoarse from all the throwing up. “Please, please, please. Anyone but him. If there is a God, you will not do this to me.”

She sat there on her knees, shaking in exhaustion and pain as the sound of a car door being opened and shut actually made her jump. She kept her back to the intruder on her private meltdown, because she just couldn’t bear to look. Life could not be this cruel. It just couldn’t, even to someone born with the last name McMillen.

Her stomach rolled once more, and she fought to hold back the urge to be sick again. The sound of boots squishing in mud and grass had her silently wishing for the earth to open up and just swallow her whole.

“Tab?”

Tabitha stiffened when she heard the low, stunned voice of Wyatt Conner, the man who was impossible to get over.

It was official—there was no God.

She squeezed her eyes shut and hung her head. She was sitting there, covered in mud, throwing up in the grass after driving nonstop from Key West to Garnet. If there was a worse way to see him again after thirteen years, she couldn’t think of what it could be.

“Are you okay?”

Tabitha answered his question by leaning over and retching again. Her stomach was empty. She hadn’t eaten all that much in the past twenty-four hours due to nerves. Now she was actually shaking, though if it was the exhaustion, the low blood sugar, or the trauma of coming back home again, she didn’t know. Wyatt fell down on his knees behind her as her stomach continued to rebel, and she didn’t have the strength to argue.

“I’m gonna call Tommy. He and Frank Duffy take turns running the ambulance up to Mercy General.” Wyatt stroked her hair, his other hand resting over the small of her back as if she’d never left.

“God, no,” she choked out, because that was the very last thing she needed, to get hauled to Mercy General in an ambulance driven by the former quarterback from her graduating class. “I’m fine. Just nerves.”

“I ain’t buying it. You’re hurt.”

“No.” She shook her head frantically and wiped her mouth as she struggled to pull herself together. “I’m fine, Wy.”

“You’re bleeding.”

“Just the dumb bottom step back at my old place. I slipped. It’s nothing. I’m okay. I just need a moment. You don’t have to—”

“I do have to,” Wyatt said firmly. “Is your stomach better?”

She nodded silently, still refusing to look at him. This just felt too hard. It made the loss of innocence a little too much to bear if she actually had to look eye to eye at what she’d lost.

“Stay here. I got some water back in the car.”

Wyatt didn’t really give her a choice in the matter, just jumped to his feet and turned to go back to his squad car. She wiped at her mouth once more and pushed at her hair, tucking the wet strands behind her ears. As ridiculous as it was, she was trying to pull herself together.

She looked down to her navy-blue tank top and khaki shorts, now both covered in mud. Then she brought her leg up, finally acknowledging the cut from the rake when she fell. It ran nearly the full length of her calf, which was just perfect. She couldn’t imagine what her shoulder looked like.

Wyatt made it back in record time and silently offered her the bottle of water. She took it without looking up and rinsed her mouth out. She spit the water into the grass a few times, knowing her dignity was already in tatters. Then she took several long gulps of water. She was still working on washing the taste of fear out of her mouth when Wyatt dropped a blanket over her shoulders—one of those trusty police-issue brown blankets that were thick and scratchy but served their purpose.

Then, without further ado, certainly without asking or even warning her, Wyatt bent down and picked her up. She gasped from the shock of it. The water bottle slipped out of her hand and dropped to the ground as she flung her arms around his neck out of instinct. She blinked past the rain and finally stared up at him simply because she had nowhere else to look.

Tabitha had the same crushing breathlessness she’d experienced in the yard after falling on her ass, because she’d forgotten how good-looking Wyatt was in person. She’d seen him plenty over the years on television. His best friend, Clay Powers, was a UFC heavyweight champion. Since Wyatt was his right-hand man and training partner, he’d always been featured heavily in those pay-per-view fights. Tabitha had watched every single one. She enjoyed watching Clay fight. They’d been friends a long time, and she was beyond thrilled to see him become so successful. No one deserved it more. But the reason she saved those fights for years afterward was to play back the parts with Wyatt in them—like a lovesick fool. No mixed-martial-arts fan had mourned Clay Powers’s retirement quite as much as Tabitha. It’d cut off her lifeline to a time and a dream that was long dead but impossible to let go of.

Now here Wyatt was, all six feet five inches of him. He was much bigger at thirty-four than he was at twenty-one, stronger, more powerful and intimidating. His blond hair was longer, curling at his nape. Despite the rain, it still held the unnatural impression from his hat, which he must’ve recently abandoned. Without thought, she reached up and ran her fingers through golden strands, a habit thirteen years dormant rising to the surface as if she’d never left. His hair was as silky as she remembered, flowing through her fingers easily as she flattened it out.

Wyatt stopped his trek and stared down at her for one stunned second. She looked into his eyes that were the lightest shade of blue, like sun hitting the ocean on a clear day. They were haunted, filled with pain that was stark and cutting when she realized she was the one who’d caused it. She wanted to touch the fine lines at the corners of those beautiful eyes, and the worry creases on his forehead just to smooth them out and give his innocence back. He was still stunningly handsome, far more so than she remembered, because Wyatt was one of those men who just got better-looking with time, but she could still tell life was taking its toll.

“You shouldn’t have stopped.” She sighed. “It wasn’t necessary. I was just having a moment, and I know I don’t deserve—”

“I’m your husband,” Wyatt interrupted, his low voice filled with pain. “Taking care of you was supposed to be my job.”

If you haven’t yet had the chance to discover this amazing series, don’t miss the awesome giveaway below where you can win all the ebooks in Breaking Free or a SIGNED paperback of Freeing Asia!

Saving Jay is releasing on February 11, 2015

 About The Book

Jay

My life was a dark and desolate place. Consumed by work and full of regret, loneliness had become my closest friend. Ink and a tattoo machine were my therapy, a way to claim my own skin with the art that I loved.
The day I walked into her shop, I knew I’d found what I needed. The light I’d been looking for.Jade
When I first looked into those blue eyes I saw a depth behind them that I wanted to explore. Jason “Jay” Clarke was more than a perfectly pressed suit and dimpled smile. He was a man with a heart of gold drowning in the weight of his world. He wanted me to mark him.I never expected him to soothe my aching heart.

When our worlds collide and Jay begins to fall apart, will my love be enough to save him?

**WARNING: Not recommended for younger readers due to sexual content and language.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

DGR: Hey E.M.! So excited to have you here at DGR today! Can we start out by having you introduce yourself to readers that aren’t yet familiar with you and your books?

EM: Hi! Thank you for having me. I’m excited to be here. I’m E.M. Abel, author of the Breaking Free series— Freeing Asia, Breaking Shaun and Saving Jay. If I were to describe my books I’d say, they’re fun, sexy and lighthearted but still posses a range of emotion and a meaningful message.

DGR: What’s your writing process like and where do you get your inspiration from?

EM: My writing process is kind of a mess. I don’t know if I’ve hit a real rhythm yet, but I usually need a month or so between books to clear my head and feel mentally ready to move on. I spend about seven months on average writing my books. I have a husband that works crazy hours and deploys, and I have two kids (ages 6&3) that also need a lot of time so I write when I can. My inspiration comes from my life, my family and friends and my fantasies all mixing together.

DGR: Here’s an important question; tea or coffee? 😉

EM: I enjoy both but I drink coffee everyday… not tea.

DGR: What’s your favorite part about writing or being an author?

EM: That moment when I get a message from a reader and he or she (usually she) tells me how much they loved my book. The thing about writing is, you’re creating something out of nothing. You’re taking words and trying to create something that moves people, something that makes them feel something, anything. So, knowing I can create something out of nothing and have people love it. That’s the best feeling ever.

DGR: Now onto the more interesting questions… I love how you write these perfectly imperfect characters in your Breaking Free series, and I have a feeling Jay may be your best one yet. What can you tell us about him?

EM: Jay is a complicated man. For those of you who have read Freeing Asia, you know this already. He’s handsome, romantic and a pure gentleman but he’s also got a darker, dirtier side.

DGR: If you had to give us 5 words to describe Jay, what would they be?

EM: Thoughtful, Mysterious, Commanding, Perceptive, and Sexy

DGR: Saving Jay cover has some very delicious looking abs on it. I’m not sure if many people know that you actually take all the photos for your book covers; so, any inside scoop you can give us on the model for Jay? 😉

EM: It’s funny because every time I start a new book, I also have to start the process of finding a model for my cover. I knew the first two models personally. Freeing Asia’s model is my niece, Kenyia Dillon, and Breaking Shaun’s model is my friend’s brother, John Evans. So, for Saving Jay, I put an ad on Craigslist and… that didn’t work very well… LOL. So, after searching for a while, one of my friends and street team members suggested Casey West. I contacted him on Facebook, explained what I was doing and that I would need him at the beach at 5 a.m. for a sunrise shot and he agreed to do it. He’s a nice guy and was really easy to work with. Thank god, because I was nervous. I’m no professional. I just enjoy photography.

Casey has a Facebook page too so go check him out.

https://www.facebook.com/CaseyWest91

DGR: Have you had a favorite book in the series to write? Or maybe a favorite character?

EM: I don’t think I could choose a favorite book. Each one holds a special place in my heart. I’m sure you’ve heard authors referring to their books as their babies and they really are. They’re all a part of you and you love them all the same but for different reasons. Asia is probably my favorite character. She’s more like me than any of the others.

DGR: If you had to pick one of your favorite scenes (without spoilers of course) in Saving Jay, what would it be?

EM: Let me just say, it involves rope and a mirror.

DGR: Does Saving Jay mark the end for the Breaking Free series or do you plan more books for it?What’s next for you?

EM: Yes, Saving Jay is the third and final book of the Breaking Free series. It’s bittersweet for me really, but I’m excited to move on to other projects. I’m already plotting my next book. I don’t have a title for it yet but it’s been on my mind for over a year now. I almost wrote it before Saving Jay but decided to wait. It’ll still be a romance but a little heavier than the Breaking Free series. I have a feeling it’ll challenge me both technically and emotionally and I’m eager to dive in.

DGR: Anything extra you’d like to leave the readers with?

EM: For those of you who haven’t read my books, they are all standalones. Although they are a part of a series and some characters appear in more than one book, you can read each individually and still understand and enjoy the story.

To my readers and you ladies at DGR, thank you for your support.

And please come hang out with me on my Facebook page, blog, Instagram, wherever. I love meeting readers and making friends.

Blind Faith
Sin Brothers #3
Author: Rebecca Zanetti
Genre: Romantic Suspense
 (January 27, 2015; Forever Mass Market; $8.00)

A betrayal he couldn’t forget…For Nate Dean, love is a four-letter word. As part of a secret black-ops military unit, he and his brothers were genetically engineered by the government to be ruthless soldiers with an expiration date. They were loyal only to one another . . . until Nate laid eyes on the woman who stole his heart and blew his world apart. Now, years later, his family is still paying the price for his mistake. But as time runs out, there’s only one person who can save his family: the very woman Nate swore he’d never trust again.

A love she couldn’t deny…

The moment Audrey Madison spies Nate across a crowded ballroom, she can barely breathe. He’s just as undeniably sexy as she remembers, yet there’s an edge to him now that’s as irresistible as it is dangerous. When he asks for her help, Audrey can’t refuse. But she has secrets of her own-secrets that, if Nate ever discovers them, may cost them both their lives…

Nate studied her, wondering how their very different childhoods had somehow brought them to the same place once again. “Why haven’t you slept with anybody but me?” he asked, surprising himself.

Her head jerked up. Vulnerability flashed across her delicate face to be quickly hidden as she slid her arms into the robe and belted it around her tiny waist. “I haven’t had a lot of time, with being blown up, operated on, and then trying to commit fraud on the US Government on behalf of your sworn enemy.” Sarcastic humor lifted her top lip, but the lightness failed to reach her eyes or flash that devastating dimple. “Sometimes a girl just has to prioritize.”

He’d loved her sense of humor. This one? Not so much. Sarcasm and fatalism didn’t fit with the person deep inside Audrey, the one she’d shoved down to survive. “I understand why you stayed to receive medical attention.” The commander’s medical team and facilities beat any other in the world, without question. If anybody could have saved her leg, it would’ve been them. “But now it’s time to go.” As much as the thought cut through him like a blade, he didn’t trust her enough to send her to his brothers in Montana. But he could find her safety. “Let me help you.”

“I don’t want your help.” Her stance widened slightly as if they faced off under high noon.

Worse yet, absolute truth lived in every word. The woman really didn’t want his help. A surprising hurt compressed his lungs. “Why are you still working with him?” he breathed out. Could her mother’s approval mean that much to her? After everything?

Audrey lifted her chin. “They saved my life and gave me a second chance. It’s the only life I’ve truly known, and I’m doing some good with the senator.”

“Find another life,” Nate ground out.

“No.” Regret filled her sigh. “You’re the one who told me that our childhood shapes us. I’m just doing what I can right now.”

He shook his head. Why did he get the feeling she wasn’t telling him everything? There was enough truth in her statement that he couldn’t find the lie, but a lie was there. He was sure of it. “I’m going to kill him, Aud. Then I’m going to blow up every facility he owns and make sure they never function again. You don’t want to be here for this.”

Awareness pursed her lips as she studied him. Her breath hitched as her chest lifted. Those amazing eyes widened. “Suicide mission?”

“Probably.” Which was yet another reason the previous night had been a one-shot deal. Chances were slim he’d survive the attack he planned after saving his brothers.

She nodded, regret twisting her lip. “Hasn’t that always been your plan?”

“Yes.” Except for the brief time she’d been his. Then his plans had changed dramatically to a future with possible kids and even a fucking picket fence. He’d known better, without a doubt. A bullshit every-day life had never been for him. He’d been created to kill, and through a lucky turn of fate had been given brothers to love—to protect and ultimately save. They were happy, and once the chips were deactivated, they wouldn’t require his skill set any longer.

He wouldn’t be needed, and he needed them so very much. Too much.

“Hmmm.” Pain lived in her eyes, but no give existed in her jaw. “I just realized—I can’t save you.”

“No.” He frowned. What was she talking about? “I don’t expect you to save me.”

“I know.” She tightened the belt, her eyes glimmering with tears. “I’ll get you the codes and any info on Jory, but you need to decide to save yourself. When this is all over, if you and your brothers survive, you need to save yourself. Decide to keep going.”

That was the rub, now wasn’t it? The life he’d been created for, the one he’d excelled at, was over. Where exactly was he supposed to go?

AUTHOR’S TOP FIVE

Top five favorite scenes in the Sin Brothers series

Hello, everyone!  Thanks to the gang here for having me over to talk about my top five favorite scenes in the Sin Brother series.  I just love the first scene of any book when the hero and heroine first are on the page together, so it’s probably not a surprise that four of these are from the first scenes in the books, in the order of the books:
1.     FORGOTTEN SINS:  This is the first scene of the entire series, and it has Josie Dean called down to the hospital because her husband has been attacked and has amnesia.  The thing is that Josie hasn’t seen Shane for two years and didn’t really know him all that well during their brief marriage.  She heads down to the hospital to find him wounded, sexier than ever, with danger on his heels.
2.     SWEET REVENGE:  This one starts out with the oldest brother, Matt Dean, wounded in a back alley.  The heroine, Laney Jacobs, finds him and helps him into her bar.  He’s instantly attracted and intrigued by her, and she’s wary…and soon passes out from the sight of blood.
3.     BLIND FAITH:  This one actually starts with Nate Dean hunting down Audrey Madison, the woman who’d broken his heart years ago.  He finds her in a ballroom in DC, and he immediately squires her away to ask for her help in saving his brothers.  There’s a lot of tension and pent up feelings between the two, and they’re kissing more than talking in record time.
4.     TOTAL SURRENDER:  This one starts with sexy Jory Dean, the youngest brother who’s been missing for two years, held in a cell staring out at the heroine, Piper Oliver, who’s been hired to save his life.  They don’t trust each other, but they have a common goal…and attraction.
5.     There’s a scene in TOTAL SURRENDER where all four brothers are reunited, and that’s one of my absolute favorite scenes in the entire series.

#TheSlayer is coming! Countdown Series Spotlight & #Giveaway with @Kele_Moon

And so, week 2 of my Kele Moon Spotlight and countdown till The Slayer continues. If you missed my previous post, last month I was incredibly lucky to read a super early ARC of The Slayer and It. Blew. Me. Away. One of the best books I’ve read to date.

Each week I’ll be spotlighting a different book from that series, leading up to Untamed Hearts with The Viper & The Slayer.

So let’s continue, shall we, with one of my favorite takes on Romeo and Juliet; Romeo and Jules from Star Crossed. This is also the book where my favorite brothers get introduced (cough Tino and and Nova cough). I adored this book. It was the book that truly made me fall in love with this series, and I simply can’t recommend it enough. A must read!

“I’m Jules Conner.”
“Like Wyatt Conner?” Romeo couldn’t help but ask as he shook her hand and felt that electric pulse once more. “The Deputy.”
“Yeah.” Jules rolled her eyes. “He’s my brother, but don’t hold that against me.”
Bingo.
Romeo grinned in triumph. Of course she was his sister. He should’ve known with how tall she was. Wyatt Conner was nearly his height, and Romeo was sure if he had a full-blooded sister, she’d have easily been as tall as Juliet.
“I’m Romeo Wellings,” he offered, though it seemed redundant. He just used the moment to hold on to her hand for a few more milliseconds. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Are y’all in town another night?” Jules asked, looking from Romeo to his brothers beside him.
Nova and Tino spoke in unison. “No.”
“Yes,” Romeo said at the same time. His brothers turned to him, dark eyes wide and concerned, but he ignored them. “They’re leaving tonight,” he lied and stomped on Nova’s foot for good measure when he made a choked sound of denial. “Now, actually. But I’m free all night.”
“Lemme buy you dinner,” Jules said so earnestly Romeo would have been inclined to agree even if this woman didn’t have him feeling fidgety and sixteen. “It’s the least I can do.” Her smile grew broader, more endearing and genuine. “Say yes.”
“Yes,” Romeo said without hesitation. “What time?”
Jules glanced at her phone and then looked up with a guilty wince. “I’ll be a while. I’m Clay’s lawyer. I got to finish a few more things with the police, and I wanna make sure Clay’s settled. Melody’s likely staying the night with him at the hospital, so I’ll have to grab them some things from the hotel. Is eight too late?”
“Eight’s perfect.” Romeo resisted the urge to take in all of her with a long, sweeping look, because it was obvious Jules was in that strange lawyer mode that was common for her breed. She was friendly and professional and obviously intent to wrap up everything for Clay, including a proper thank-you to the big fool who’d saved Melody’s life. Trying to play the game, he became cordial. “You wanna give me your phone number, and we’ll touch base once you’re done with everything here?”
“Oh yes, good idea.” Jules reached into her purse to pull out a business card and an expensive gold pen. She laughed to herself, shaking her head as she wrote on the back of the card. “If you would’ve told me yesterday I’d be buying Romeo Wellings dinner, I’d have called you crazy. Things change faster than I can keep up with sometimes.”
Romeo had to agree. The very last thing he expected to be doing on his remaining night in Las Vegas was having dinner with Wyatt Conner’s sister. He’d spent a good deal of time hating the bastard. The irony wasn’t lost on him, and his smile was wide as he took Jules’s card when she offered it. He stared at her cell number on the back.
“I’m not your enemy.” Romeo lifted his gaze to hers and studied her beautiful face under the bright Nevada sun. “Juliet.”
She gasped in surprise, her eyes growing wide. “I don’t—” She floundered. Her cheeks flushed pink as she narrowed icy eyes at him. “How?”

“That’s what Jules is short for, isn’t it?” he asked simply, refusing to look away. “Juliet.”
“I go by Jules,” she said rather than rise to the bait. For a brief moment it looked like she might reach over and snatch the card back. Her guard was obviously up, but instead of lashing out and rescinding the offer, she looked to his left hand that was wrapped in a white gauze bandage and sighed in defeat. “I’ll see ya at eight, Wellings.”
“I go by Romeo.”
“Fine.” Jules took a deep breath, her cheeks more flushed than ever. “Then eight o’clock, Romeo.”
He did it then, took one long, hard look of Jules Conner standing there in formfitting jeans that clung to her long legs like a second skin. It took everything he had not to adjust himself, because eyeing her made his jeans tighter than usual.
Romeo gave her a devious smile. With a voice low and husky with anticipation, he said, “I’ll look forward to it.”

Clay looked at the small blue plate placed in front of him, his usual scowl growing deeper. “I didn’t order this.”
“It’s a gift.”
Clay’s gaze snapped to the new waitress. He eyed the attractive blonde in surprise. “For what?”
She gave him a broad smile that made her green eyes glow bright and vibrant beneath her black-rimmed glasses. “For Thanksgiving,” she said, her voice soft and musical to his ears. “I saw you were eating alone, and I thought, that man needs a piece of pumpkin pie.”
“Oh.”
He glanced back at the plate, resisting the urge to gag. He swallowed hard, choosing instead to focus on the warm feeling in his chest. He was oddly touched by the gift, simple though it might be. With the exception of his best friends, Wyatt and Jules, this waitress was the first person in a very long time that bothered to do something nice for him without expecting him to sweat or bleed in return.
She turned to leave, but he didn’t want her to. He liked the pretty waitress with her sparkling eyes and thick hair wrapped up in a bun on top of her head that showed every color of blonde imaginable. He thought her glasses were charming and her figure was lush. Full hips, even fuller breasts, she looked sort of like a very huggable angel. The fluorescent lights framed her beautiful, round face with deep dimples that magically appeared when she smiled.
Everything about her was soft and innocent in a way most of the women he knew would never be.
Without thinking, he reached out with lightning-fast reflexes. He grabbed her wrist before she could get too far, making her jump in shock.
Clay winced at her sharp reaction, knowing he was intimidating whether he wanted to be or not. “I’m sorry.”
“’S okay,” she said, her smile back, bright and happy once more. “I’m jumpy sometimes, but that’s not your fault.”
“I wanted to say thank you,” he said, trying very hard to put emotion in his usually gruff voice. “No one’s ever done this for me.”
“Bought you a piece of pie?”
“No.” He felt his cheeks heat, and he looked to the pie in an effort to hide. “Nobody’s just nice to me, for free, without, you know, expecting something for it.”
“Sweetie, you keep being sweet and I’m gonna have to buy your dinner, and between you and me, I can barely afford my own dinner, let alone feeding a big guy like you.” She squeezed his hand, making him realize he was still holding on to her wrist. “So you enjoy your pie. Happy Thanksgiving.”
Clay nodded his agreement and reluctantly let go. He bit his lip against doing something stupid like asking her on one of those dates real people had with flowers and candlelit dinners, or just simply blurting out he thought she looked like an honest to God angel in that waitress uniform.
Rather than gawk at the waitress, which was what he really felt like doing, he focused his attention on the pie, trying to decide if big bites would make it easier to choke down or small ones would lessen the impact.
He tried a small bite first as the chime of a bell signaled someone entering Hal’s Diner, one of the few places to eat in the small town of Garnet and the only one currently open on Thanksgiving. Despite the lack of choices for the holiday, Hal’s was still empty save a few bachelors.
Clay knew what lost soul had walked in without looking, and turned his focus back to the dreaded pie.
“Happy Thanksgiving, Sheriff.”
“Happy Thanksgiving, Judy,” came the upbeat, typically charismatic reply. “What does a hardworking sheriff have to do for a cup of coffee? Damn, but it’s cold out there. Where’s summer when ya need it?”
“Gonna be a nasty winter,” Judy agreed, sounding equally disheartened. “Take a seat. I’ll bring it to you. Are ya gonna catch a quick bite?”
“Sure, bring me whatever turkey special Hal’s dishing up. You know I can’t stay away from ya, darling. Having you serve me is always the highlight of my night.”
“Hush.” Judy laughed, sounding pleased. “You know I’m taken.”
“Tell Jerry he better spoil you rotten or I’m gonna steal you right out from under him.”
Clay rolled his eyes, deciding he’d rather eat pumpkin pie than listen to this shit. He was poking at it with his fork when a large, ominous shadow darkened his table. “Wyatt.”
“Is that pumpkin pie?” Wyatt asked, scooting into the booth seat across from Clay and tossing his hat on the table.
“So what if it is?” Clay frowned at his best friend, who was running a hand through his blond hair, forcing away the unnatural wave caused from his hat.
Handsome and cocky as ever, Wyatt gave him a bemused smile. “But you hate pumpkin pie.”
“Yeah, I know that.” Clay scowled. “You think I don’t know I hate it?”
Wyatt gave him a look. “Then why are you eating it?”
“That new waitress brought it,” Clay explained, the reminder compelling him to take another bite. He choked, forcing himself to swallow it. “Christ.”
“You’ve officially taken one hit too many,” Wyatt said in exasperation, turning to Judy when she showed up with his cup of coffee. “Darling, dontcha have something else back there besides pumpkin pie?”
“We got praline,” Judy offered, her cheeks still flushed beneath her freckles. The redhead was always pink-cheeked when Wyatt was around. “You want it before your dinner?”
“Nah, it ain’t for me.” Wyatt gestured to Clay. “He hates pumpkin pie. I dunno why he let her serve it to him. Get him a piece of praline.”
“No, it’s all right,” Clay said quickly, not wanting the new waitress to know he’d sent it back. He’d rather choke down the whole thing. “I like it.”
“Bullshit.” Wyatt reached across the table and pulled the plate away when Clay took another stubborn bite of the pie, only to gag on it a second time. “Look at that. He can’t even swallow it to prove a point.”

Asking for Trouble by Tessa Bailey

Bow down, bitches, because we got royalty in the house. The Queen of Dirty Talk, Miss Tessa Bailey has decided to be gracious enough to honor me here at Dirty Girl Romance with all her pervy awesome. Having read her entire backlist I can definitely tell you that this woman has written some of my favorite dirty talking heroes. I’m talking the books that I specifically reread numerous times for a few…uhem…choice scenes. If you haven’t read anything by this author yet, I’m really not sure what you’re waiting for. And if you have, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m so excited to introduce you all to one of my favorite authors and to get to pick the brain of this very talented lady.

DGR:      Hi Tessa! Thank you so much for being here today. Can you start by introducing yourself to the readers that maybe don’t know you yet? (Though I’m not sure how that’s possible)

TB: Thank you so much for having me! As the lovely Lana mentioned, I write heroes who love to express their wants and needs in a very specific (read: dirty) manner. Recently, I wrapped my Line of Duty series, which centered on a group of NYPD cops and the woman who rock their worlds. I have a spanking (heh!) new series out NOW called SERVE that just kicked off with back-to-back releases. OWNED BY FATE and EXPOSED BY FATE take place at a club for the adventurous-minded in New York City. It’s h-o-t and introduces a new cast of characters to love 🙂

DGR:       Having read your entire backlist, I don’t think I’d be able to pick, but I have to ask; do you have a favorite that was to write out of all your books?

TB: Whichever one I’m writing at the moment is always my favorite. Looking back, though, I think the very first book in my Line of Duty series (PROTECTING WHAT’S HIS) was a great experience because I was letting loose all the creative impulses I’d buried for so long. It was very freeing and cathartic. I think I smiled the whole time. DGR:       OK, admit it. Do you have a red room of pervy awesome? How DO you keep giving us better and better dirty talkers? I swear these guys just keep getting hotter.

TB: I do NOT have a red room of pervy awesome – do they sell those ready-to-assemble at IKEA?! Thank you for saying that about my menfolk. I think I’ve tapped into some kind of weird dirty-talking muscle that gets stronger with exercise. And I exercise it a lot! Every time I think I’ve gone as dirty as I can, I think of something dirtier. Basically, if it makes me slap a hand over my mouth, it’s going in the book.

DGR:       I loved your Line of Duty series, but I think I may love your Serve series even more. How do you make a dirty talker better? Make him a Dom dirty talker. But I digress… What made you decide to write a BDSM-y series. Was it something you’ve been thinking about for a while?

TB: No, I hadn’t. I was approached by another author who wanted to write the series with me. When she explained it was BDSM, I initially declined because I didn’t think I could write BDSM convincingly, being that I don’t practice it myself. But I found a way to write what turned me on(personally) and not take it anywhere beyond that. There is a character in each book that, like me, isn’t adept in all aspects of BDSM and we discover/learn through that character simultaneously.

DGR:       So what’s your writing process like? A lot of mood lighting and wine?

TB:  Full disclosure, I love to drink. Wine is huge part of my writing process. I actually write faster when I’m drinking, because my ability to second-guess my decisions has gone out the window. I don’t day-drink often (I usually abide by the 5pm opening bell), but every once in a while I’ll take my laptop to a pub for lunch and work on a scene. It relaxes me and I’m inspired by the atmosphere. And the wine, obviously ;p
DGR:       You wrote a New Adult novel recently that I absolutely loved, Unfixable. Are you planning on writing any more in that particular genre?
TB: YES. I am so ridiculously excited about my NA series

with Avon Impulse (coming MARCH 2015). It’s a different style than UNFIXABLE (thank you for loving that book) but the heroines have the same sensibility as Willa (from UNFIXABLE). They’re strong, loyal, talented young girls who are just trying to get a foothold in adulthood. It takes place all over New York City and has some heroes to die for. I want to marry them all myself. The series is called Broke and Beautiful, and kicks off with CHASE ME in March 🙂

DGR:       Let’s talk future books. I saw you have a new series in the works, Risking It All (and HELLO hot cover) Can you tell us a little more about it?

TB: Okay, I have to take a deep breath before continuing. BOWEN DRISCOL. He was introduced in a novella I wrote called HIS RISK TO TAKE, way back in April 2013. I begged and cajoled my way to getting this book out there because he refused to leave me alone, day or night. Bowen isn’t a hero, he’s an antihero. He’s tortured and damaged and a touch out of control. His father, a crime lord, was just put in prison and thus, the enterprise has fallen on his shoulders. Unfortunately, he falls (mega hard) for an undercover cop. My heart and soul is in this book, plain and simple.

DGR:       What’s your favorite part of writing?

TB: That moment when the hero realizes he’s lost the heroine. I live for that moment – I can feel it in my stomach, heart and head. If I don’t feel it, I know I have to go back and fix something in the book.

DGR:       If you had to pick your top 5 favorite authors, who would they be?

TB: SO HARD. Weirdly, most of my favorites are paranormal romance writers and I don’t even write that genre. Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Julie Garwood, Karen Marie Moning and…like fifteen authors are tied for the final spot, so I’m copping out and pleading for mercy.

DGR:   What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

TB: I once worked as a model scout on the streets on New York City. It sounds really glamorous, but it was awful. People wanted nothing to do with me and thought I was a scammer. I’d been waitressing and bartending up until that point and couldn’t go back to it fast enough.
DGR:  What’s coming up next for you? (Please say the next Serve book, please say the next
Serve book. Trust me guys, if you saw the teaser that Tessa posted about Porter’s book, you’d be begging too)
TB: Haha! I’m WRITING the next Serve book right now (Porter and Frankie’s book) but next up, release-wise after EXPOSED BY FATE, is a novella in January. It’s called RISKIER BUSINESS and is the sequel to Troy and Ruby’s book, HIS RISK TO TAKE (the pool hustler book). We’re releasing it in January because it will set readers up for Bowen’s book, RISKING IT ALL, which also releases in January! The 27th, to be exact 🙂 Lots of fun stuff coming up!!
DGR:    Anything you’d like to leave the readers with?
TB: Yes! Here is a quote from Oliver (my hero from EXPOSED BY FATE – available October 27th!)

“You know me as Oliver, your friend’s brother. The guy who asked you about your college classes or whether or not you liked your professors. I’ve got news for you, Eliza, I didn’t give a fuck about your classes, or your professors. I wanted to get you alone and screw your little college coed body silly.”

Review-DGR4.5 stars

Aylin had gotten under his skin, and for all his experience fighting enemies, he had no defense against a female whose strength humbled him, whose voice soothed him, and whose touch drove him wild.

This book just reminded me all over again why I’m such a big fan of Larissa Ione’s writing. If I had any doubts about this new series after finishing Bound by Night, I don’t have a doubt in sight after reading this. As a matter of fact, I’m hooked, line and sinker, and cannot wait for the next one.

Chained by Night is a sexy, action packed read that you are not going to want to miss out on.

If you’ve read any of Ione’s other series, then you know this one is a bit different, but in a very unique way. You get vampires but with a whole different Native American lore twist. While you can technically read this as a standalone, I’d highly recommend your start with book one as the story progresses throughout the series, and you really get a better grasp on the world building and the lore in Bound by Night.

As the clan chief of MoonBound and 2nd generation vampire, I just knew Hunter will be a force to be reckoned with…and he definitely was.

To keep his enemies at bay, he has agreed to mate a rival clan leader’s daughter in return for peace between the clans and an ally in the looming war with the humans. Too bad that the rival clan is ruthless, bloodthirsty, and his destined mate is one uber bitch, Rasha. But Rasha also happens to have an identical twin sister, that is the polar opposite of everything she is. Aylin is is sweet and caring, but also cursed. Born with a deformity and as the cursed second twin, the best her fate has to offer is a mating to a clan leader known for his brutality that far surpasses her own sadistic father.

She was an impossible combination of wary and unguarded, as if she didn’t trust others but wanted them to trust her. Her spirit seemed desperate to burst from her with an explosion of energy, but something was holding her back. She reminded him of a bird with clipped wings or a wolf on a chain, wanting to be free but unable to make it happen.

The one thing I truly love about Ione’s writing, is she can take even the most damaged heroine, but make her fierce in a perfectly understated way.

Hunter faces more than a mating he doesn’t desire to a woman that turns his blood cold. He also faces an ancient curse that can only be broken by facing a challenge of 3 tests that is also foreseen to cost him his life. Add to that his undeniable pull to his mate’s twin sister, and you got yourself some entertaining reading.

Screw the challenge and the danger and the demon.
He had a feeling that Aylin was the true menace to his future.

I found this book to be much quicker paced and more action packed than the previous one, and I devoured it in practically one sitting. The sexual chemistry and connection between Aylin and Hunter was practically palpable. I just couldn’t seem to put this book down. You really get to see Aylin grow into a fierce warrior and a force to be reckoned with of her own as the story progresses. The impending war between humans and vampires continues to progress with new discoveries and twists and turns.

I loved pretty much everything about this book, ESPECIALLY the parts with Myne. There are some revelations about his connection with Hunter here that I never saw coming. It completely blindsided me and I am absolutely dying to get my hands on his book (which luckily will be next.)

Chained by Night had it all; a fantastic heroine, a fierce, possessive, protective and sexy as hell hero, scorching sexual chemistry, fantastic world building, action and romance. What else could you possibly want? This was everything I love about PNR and I cannot wait for more from this series.

Author InterviewDGR: I am so excited to have one of my all time favorite PNR authors here today; Larissa Ione.  Having read practically her entire back list, I can safely tell you that this woman can write some of the most addicting series and swoon-worthy heroes. But I digress…
Welcome, Larissa, I’m so happy to have you here today!

LI: Thank you! I’m happy to be here!
DGR:  Can you tell the readers something about yourself…well…aside from the fact that you’re filled with awesome, of course J
LI: LOL – not sure about the awesome, but I do write books in an awesome genre! If your readers like paranormal romance that’s dark, gritty, and sexy, I might have just the series for them!
DGR:  Your MoonBound Clan Vampire series is very different from your other work, is there anything in particular that inspired you to create such a unique world where humans own vampires for slaves?

LI: As much as I love my Demonica and ACRO series (written as Sydney Croft with partner Stephanie Tyler,) those series are very fantastical. I wanted to write vampires, but with more of a contemporary feel that would appeal to a different audience. I also wanted to do something different with my vampires and give them a Native American background, something I share with them. Writing the MoonBound Clan Vampires gave me a chance to explore my Native American roots as well as explore a society that reflects both the worst – and the best – of humanity.
DGR: What is your favorite part about this particular series?
LI: I’d say that I love the underdog aspect – vampires, who SHOULD be the alpha predators on the planet, are outnumbered and outgunned by humans, but they’re starting to rally. What will it take for them to prevail? I can’t wait to see!
DGR: You gave the readers a little taste of Hunter, the leader of the vampire clan MoonBound, in the previous book, and his story sounds like it’s going to be AMAZING. Can you tell us a little more just to whet the appetite?
LI: Sure! Hunter will be faced with having to choose between duty and love. He’s fighting for his clan’s very existence and fighting battles on two fronts – with enemy clans and the humans. But he’s also going to be fighting for the female he loves…who happens to be the twin sister of the female he’s supposed to mate.
DGR:  If you could give us three words to describe this book, what would they be?
LI: Gritty, intense, sexy!
DGR:  Can you describe Hunter to us in a few words?
LI: Fairly laid-back, but deep inside he harbors is father’s monstrous DNA…something he battles with frequently. He’s honorable, fair, and leads by example. He also has a tendency to hold grudges…
DGR:  Will Myne be getting a book any time soon? I have to admit, I have a bit of a soft spot for him since he reminds me of Wraith from the Demonica series 🙂
LI: Myne is next! I can’t wait to get to work on his story. I LOVE writing him…just as I love writing Wraith!
DGR:  Any clues you can give about what you have planned next?
LI: I’m currently working on some Demonica novellas that will lead the way to a new spinoff Demonica series set 20 years in the future and focusing on the kids. I’ll also be working on Myne’s story, which will put us one step closer to dealing with the humans who have enslaved vampires for decades. Exciting times ahead!
DGR:  Anything else you’d like to leave the readers with?
LI: Just a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported my work. Without my awesome readers, I wouldn’t be here. So…thank you!!!!
