Evan stretched his long legs out in front of him. She thinks I fucked a prostitute the day after I left her apartment, so, yeah, that’s about right. Sighing, he leaned back into the worn leather couch. “You left out the part about her being a liar. And not someone I met in the last few weeks. I thought it was until I became obsessed with a leggy fucking blonde. Evan glared at the man whose eyes he swore fucking twinkled. “Even if it is, what therapist talks like you do? I’m positive they don’t teach you that in Patient-Client Relations 101.”
“I’ve always been a firm believer in no bullshit. I told you that the day you walked in and tried to lie to me. We aren’t going to make any progress if you don’t trust me and I don’t trust you.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. You’re just—”
“Yes, Evan?”
Evan waved him off. “Nothing. I guess I’m still trying to process the fact that Reagan is that little girl from so long ago. A whole fucking life ago. It’s… I don’t know,” he said, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. “It’s disconcerting. She knew me before.”
“And that bothers you.”
“Fuck yes, it bothers me. I was ten years old the last time I saw her. Innocent. And now I’m…this.”
“You’re awfully hard on yourself. I wonder if you’re upset over what you’re saying or over Reagan thinking bad of you.”
And there it was. The truth he didn’t want to admit. Reagan accusing him of being with anyone hours after he’d been with her had infuriated him. Which was ridiculous, because he knew what he was. The demons he’d been trying to fight. Why would she assume anything but the worst? But with that anger came embarrassment and shame. He hated that she’d seen him on that corner. Hated that she’d seen him with Layla. But how the fuck could he ever convince her otherwise? And why would he even want to?
“She’s a liar,” he said.
“And you’re a sex addict. Fantastic pairing.”
So we have a liar and a sex addict. How’s that working out for you two?”
The highly anticipated conclusion to an addicting series is here and boy did it end with a bang. Pun most definitely intended. You know what I love? When a series is perfectly wrapped up with a great conclusion without being cheesy and that’s exactly what I loved about the third and final volume of A Desperate Man. We first met Evan in A Desperate Man: Volume 1 through only his POV, then we got to know Reagan in A Desperate Man: Volume 2 with her POV, so it was only fitting that volume 3 offers us a dual POV.

“Okay. I apologize. I’m so sorry I took you home that first night. That I fucked you until you could barely walk out my door. That I’ve ruined you for every other cock out there. I’m so fucking sorry, Reagan. But most of all I”m sorry you’re such a fucking liar.”
Evan and Reagan have been through quite a lot through the series, all of it leading up to the huge bomb of a reveal that these devious authors dropped on us at the end of volume two. And Volume three picks up right where that left off; in the aftermath of Reagan’s…lie…and leaving both of them to deal with the ever growing passion that continues to brew between them, even if it may be slightly clouded by snark and barbs every now and then.
I don’t want to give anything away about this book or the previous ones if you haven’t read that, so allow me to be as vague as I can while telling you as little as possible and try not to hate me for it. I loved this book. I read it in pretty much one sitting and enjoyed every single dirty little page. The sex was as hot as ever, the connection between the H/h even stronger than before. But where the first two books gave a more shallow connection formed mostly on chemistry and passion, this book dug deeper, into the emotional side of things and really let you get to know the characters and fall for them.

“And who’s that?”
“The man who deserves your heart.”
But it never loses the spark either 😉
I couldn’t imagine a better conclusion to the series than this book. The authors truly brought it a full circle and tied everything together. I loved the banter between Reagan and Evan almost as much as I loved when they tore each other’s clothes off. It’s not often a series will manage to keep me full engaged for longer than one book, and this one did it at 3. There was not one wasted page or needlessly stretched out moment. Perfectly put together, masterfully written, and sinfully erotic, A Desperate Man truly gives you a taste of the writing dual dynamite that is Ella and Brooke.
