Review: Uncommon Passion by Anne Calhoun

5 Beautifully Erotic Stars

My God, he was broken. So broken, this frightening vulnerability protected only by pieces of bulletproof vest held together with razor wire, attitude, and a smile that broke her heart every time he flashed it.

He was in too deep, she was too deep for a man like him, and he didn’t have anything left inside to give her.

Anne Calhoun has this way with writing that is captivating yet understated. It’s erotic and beautifully passionate. The book draws you in from the first page, and the words will weave their way all around you, making sure you experience everything along with the characters; every smell, every feeling, every sound, every passionately erotic moment. Anne doesn’t write simple erotic romances.

I have fallen in love with her writing since reading Liberating Lacey, my first book by her. And I have been singing her praises every book since. I have yet to read a book by Miss Calhoun that I haven’t enjoyed, and this one was no exception. Dare I say this was her best book yet? Well it was definitely a favorite of mine.

I loved everything about this book; the story, the characters, the writing.

What I have grown to love most about Anne’s writing, is the way that she is able to write a heroine that strong, but in this incredibly endearing and understated way. This is how Rachel was.

Rachel has recently left the only life she has ever known inside a restrictive religious community. She may be sheltered and a virgin, but she knows what she wants and she goes after it. She wants to experience life without limitations, she wants to feel. She’s was like this butterfly taking flight after leaving the strict cocoon that was her upbringing.

The first thing she wants to experience is passion. When she meets the sexy Swat Officer Ben Harris at a bachelor auction, she knows that he is the perfect man to give her what she wants.

Ben is a broken and jaded man, trying to bury his pain in an endless haze of adrenaline jags at work, drinking, and sex.

He’s not looking for forever, he’s not even looking for next week. All he cares about is the here and the now. But when he learns that Rachel is a virgin after their one night together, he sets out to make amends. He knows he can’t offer her much, but what he can offer her is a no string attached sexual education and not lose her heart in the process.

Everyone was worried Rachel would get her heart broken if she didn’t get a ring and a vow and a happily ever after right out of a movie. But Rachel needed something more, something he didn’t know if he could give her. She had no shields whatsoever to protect her from anything.
Including him. The only thing he could teach her was how to harden her heart.

Rachel never imagined that this is what she was missing; this lust, this burning hot passion that sets them both on fire.

Ben may have been detached in his life and relationships, but he was certainly not detached when it came to teaching Rachel the darker parts of passion.

Just say cock.”
“I don’t use language like that.” He paused as if he were going to pull out, but then didn’t. Ensnared in need, she moaned and squirmed again. “Try ride me. Pound into me. Make me scream. Or go for the one that means all three. Try fuck me.”

The sex scenes in this book, while beautifully written, were also scorching hot.

Ben was definitely rough around the edges and loved things dirty and hot.

You should have…” she began, but that finger circled again and the words trailed off.
“Should have what, Rachel? Should have fucked you on the steps while they stumbled around? Should have made you be quiet while you took my cock deep inside?” She shook her head, as much response to the tumultuous cascade of sensation his words set off as negating his interpretation.
“Should have stopped?” The whisper was dark, taunting. “Not gonna stop, Rachel.” Two fingers slid inside her when he spoke, and a breathless little cry escaped her lips. “I want it right now, right the fuck now, against this wall now.”

All Ben wanted to do was to teach Rachel about sex, and have a little fun with her while staying his jaded and detached self. But he begins to see that she is not quite what he expected

People assumed virgin meant weak, naïve, insecure, even ashamed. Not Rachel. She was aware, thinking about what she did and why she did it, and strong enough to ask questions, plan, execute a course of action that left her alone in the world.

Rachel may have been sheltered, but she was not your typical virgin that you might read in a book. She had a backbone, she stood up for what she believed. But the way she went about doing it is what made her so endearing to the reader. She had a quite intensity to her. She didn’t scream, she didn’t cry, she didn’t make stupid decisions. She remained true to herself and her desires for life throughout the whole story, and I absolutely loved that about her.

Ben begins to see that there is a whole lot more to Rachel then the naive virgin he first thought her to be.

Rachel was wrong with him. Rachel and her dark hair and golden eyes and her ability to shine a light on the protective shield he held up between himself and the world. Just showing him it was there, let alone what it meant, or how thin it really was. Making him feel things he didn’t want to feel.

Can Rachel get past his defenses to the beautifully broken man inside? But will Ben allow her past his walls and into his heart without breaking hers in the process?

Loved, absolutely loved this book. If you have never read a book by this author, this is the perfect one to start with. You will fall in love with the characters and the story.

Review: ★Sanctum★ by Lexi Blake

Sanctum (Masters and Mercenaries, #4.5)Sanctum by Lexi Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This novella was like the perfect quickie; not quite as long as you’d like it, yet oddly satisfying.

I really can never go wrong with a book by Lexi Blake, and this one was certainly no exception. I have been absolutely in lust with the Masters and Mercenaries series from the very first book, The Dom Who Loved Me. While many of my favorite characters from the past books made an appearance, this novella can easily be read as a standalone.

Eighteen months ago Ryan Church lost everything; his business and his millions. Distraught and facing jail time for a fraud that he didn’t commit, he doesn’t feel that he can uphold his end of the contract with the beautiful submissive that he’s fallen in love with. So he does the only thing that he feels is right – he lets her go.

Now working as a Dom in Residence in Ian Taggart’s club, he still can’t forget the woman that stole his heart and hasn’t even bothered trying to move on from her. His past collides with his present, when that same woman comes to the club to apply for the bartender position.

Unable to deny the feelings that Jillian still stirs in him, Ryan wants nothing more than another chance. But Jill still hasn’t forgotten Ryan’s rejection and leaving her behind caused, and trust no longer comes easy to her. She’s not the same submissive that she was over a year ago. The one thing she definitely cannot deny is the fire that still burns between them.

Oh, God”
“No, baby, it’s Ryan.” He chuckled, the sound a vibration against her flesh.
“I like the way you used to shout my name when you came. I want to hear it again. I’ve been waiting to hear it for a fucking year and a half.”

For a short novella, this book was extremely fulfilling. We get the back story and development of Jill and Ryan’s relationship, while also getting a little bit more Adam and my favorite Dom, Ian.

I have been anticipating Ian’s book from the very beginning of this series, and the little taste that we get of him in this book will just have to tide me over until October 1st.

How can I help you, Mr. Taggart?”
“You can fuck my Dom in Residence.”
“What?”
“Sorry,” Taggart said, not sounding sorry at all. “My friend tell me I don’t deal with social situations. Supposedly I’m too blunt.”

“You’re kind of the worst fairy godmother ever, you know.”
“I don’t know. Do you intend to fuck him?”
“Yes.”
“Then I would say I’m pretty fucking good. But the next time I have to play fairy godmother, I’m shoving a wand up someone’s ass.”

I read this book in one sitting and loved every single page of it. I also really loved Jill’s sister and hope we’ll get a book for her soon. It looks as if we will be getting a book next for my favorite kinky Brit, Simon. Or so I’m hoping!

If you enjoy super steamy BDSM books, you really need to give this series a try.

Now I just have to sit and wait impatiently for Ian’s book.

Tuesday Man Candy

Well my darling dirty birds, today is Tuesday, which according to my Dirty Girl Calender has been officially deemed as Man Candy Day. So let me present you with all the deliciousness that is Eric Belanger.
I mean, I ask you, who can resist that face? I think I found my go-to casting for pretty much any hero with dark hair and blue eyes. YUM!
The best part?
He looks even better with less clothes on 😉

ARC review: Blaze of Secrets by Jessie Donovan

Blaze of Secrets (Asylums for Magical Threats, #1)Blaze of Secrets by Jessie Donovan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

What did I think? I’m still not quite sure…

I didn’t love this one, nor did I hate it either. It had all the makings to a great book for me, the writing was good, the characters intriguing, steamy, with fantastic world building. Yet somewhere along the way, it just fell flat. Not enough for me to put it down, but enough that it did take me longer than usual to finish it. I tend to rate books based on how unputdownable it is for me. While I was curious enough to finish it, I had no problems putting it down for a while to go back to it later.

My first love is PNR, considering the series that first sucked me into the wonderful world of books was Black Dagger Brotherhood. So I have a bit of a soft spot when it comes to PNR and discovering new authors.

Jessie Donovan is off to a good start with Blaze of Secrets. The unique take on elemental magic and the intricate world building is what initially drew me to this book.

Considering that most of the PNR books I’ve read lately have been about vampires, demons, or shifters, this was a very refreshing chance of scenery.

The Feiru are struggling to keep their elemental magic a secret from the humans. In order to achieve this, they go to great lengths; locking up their first-born children in compounds known as Asylums for Magical Threats (AMT) when they reach magical maturity.

Unbeknownst to the general public, these Asylums are nothing short of prisons where many Feiru are experimented on, punished, and dying. This is also the place that Keirra has been in for the past 15 years.

Jaxton is ordered by the higher ups to also rescue Keirra for reasons unknown to him, during his rescue mission of his older brother. This is where the story begins.

So why only 3.5 stars?

Well, to be honest, I had a hard time getting into the book. There was a lot of world building that takes place in the first half, and a part of me had a tough time following it at parts. I found myself going back and re-reading certain paragraphs to better understand things. This is at times an issue with the first books in the series, so I overlooked this.

Around the 60% mark the book really took off, and I found myself enjoying it a whole lot more.

Overall, for a debut novel in a series, this was quite good. I feel like as the author grows into her craft the books will just keep getting better and better. The book, although not being a favorite of mine, definitely intrigued me enough to pick up the second book in the series once it comes out.

Keirra’s brother, Gio, was the most intriguing part of this book for me. I love characters like him, conflicted, on the wrong side of the war but yet ignorant of it. I really hope that he gets a book soon because I would definitely want to read that.

If you enjoy PNR reminiscent of Nalini Singhs Psy/changeling series but with elemental magic, you’d definitely want to give this one a try. I think what I enjoyed the most about this book was the unique new take on PNR. I see great things coming from this author in the future.

**Many thanks to the author for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review**

Review: Sinister Kisses (SKALS) by Adriana Noir

Sinister Kisses (SKALS, #1)Sinister Kisses by Adriana Noir
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

“Death is the only thing that could ever tear us apart, and even that would fail. Somehow, some way, I would find you.

ALL ABOARD!The crazy Train!

Calling all passengers! Calling all passengers!
This is your final call to board the crazy train, destination…fuck if I know!

Please be advised that you may find parts of your journey disturbing, fucked up, and probably unlike any other ride you’ve ever taken.

I would like to take this time to introduce you to your fellow passengers.
First, let’s meet Taylor

No need to apologize just yet Taylor…or do…whatever. Passengers are advised to attempt and disregard her sporadic crying, apologizing for shit she didn’t really do, and for just generally being a naive girl that will act like a wounded puppy for the duration of our trip.

Let’s now move on to Sebastian, shall we?

Now now Sebby…no need to put it all out there. You’re not that bad…err…actually…forget I said anything…please don’t hurt me??

Passengers who value their faces as they are, are advised to not speak to, touch, or even probably speak to the general direction of Taylor.

Please also disregard any disputes between Taylor and Sebby here that may look like, or very well be abusive in nature or not consensual…this is just par of the course.

Ah, looks like they’re starting early…

Whoa there Sebby! No need to over react here, I was just letting the good people know! I’m sorry! I love you?

Moving along then…
As you may have noticed, we have now reached the half way point of our journey. There will be someone walking around to collect your sanity. Kindly leave behind everything you think you know, and deal with it.

For those that don’t think they can handle this shit, I’d advise you to make your exit now

The rest of you? Good fucking luck and enjoy the ride 😉

My thoughts?
Fuck, fuckity, fucking fuck! What the fuck did I just read?!
I am all for the dark and twisted reads. I love them! But this one disturbed even me. Parts were disturbing because I sorta kinda liked them? Other parts were just plain fucking disturbing!

The writing is fantastic. The main characters? Hoo boy! I’m not gonna lie, characters like Taylor drive me almost as crazy as this book was. I’m not big on the naive, constantly crying, and weak heroines. I could deal with it, however.

Sebastian? The man is on a whole different playing field of crazy. Wow!

I truthfully don’t even know how to rate this book. I wanted to hate it…and yet…I couldn’t. I hated the fact that I couldn’t hate it? GAWD! I don’t even know! I feel like I need therapy after this.

This is definitely not a book for the faint of heart.

Will I read the next book? I have to know what happens with these crazies, so yes, I will.

I do have a sudden urge to read a whole bunch of rainbow and unicorns type books after this one. And people, I do NOT enjoy the rainbows and unicorn type books. So that should tell you something.

I still need to think on my rating…I just…I don’t…I can’t!
3.5 stars??

Now this girl is going to go and attempt to find my happy place again…and maybe try to get some of my sanity back?

And I thank you!

Savage Rhythm by Chloe Cox

Savage Rhythm (Club Volare, #6)Savage Rhythm by Chloe Cox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

You’ll burn baby. You’ll burn. For me.

So it’s really no secret that I love a good BDSM romance. Know why?

While the dynamic between Declan and Molly is that of a D/s, I’d call this book BDSM lite :). It was a sexy romance, but there wasn’t heavy BDSM elements like you’d find in say, Cherise Sinclair or Kallypso Masters. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the hell out of it. Because I have definitely found me a new author to read. This was my first book in the series, and I’ll definitely be going back to read the rest of them now. I’m hooked!

Declan is the lead singer of Savage Heart. A few months ago, after an incident in Philadelphia that’s shrouded in mystery, caused Declan to throw out his best friend and lead guitarist, Sorren, out of the band. It also resulted with a trip to rehab for himself. But things are not ultimately the way that they seem, and only a handful of people know what really happened.

Molly goes on tour with Savage Heart in order to get to the bottom of what happened the night the band broke up and then write a book that will bring them back from the dead.

She is prepared for a lot; groupies, havoc, dealing with being on a tour bus with a bunch of rock stars. What she is not prepared for is the utter magnetism that is Declan and the effect he has on her. Hiding a troubled childhood and a pain from her past, Molly doesn’t remember the last time she reacted this way to a man. But in order to build the career she needs to help support herself and her sister, she knows that she cannot give in no matter how sexy Declan’s voice or body might be.

Declan knows what he wants when he sees it, he is a Dom after all, and he can see the sexy submissive beneath the bluster. He makes no qualms in making it clear to Molly what will happen, no matter how much she may fight it.

You don’t get to have me, Declan Donovan. That’s not what’s going to happen. What’s going to happen is that I’m going to get to the bottom of what happened between you and Soren Andersson in Philadelphia, and you’re going to respect me. And then I’m going to write the best goddamn book you’ve ever read. And at the end of it-“

“You’re going to let me fuck you senseless.”

Now who can deny THAT for too long? Certainly not Molly. Even though an even from her past makes her unsure as to where all this will go, and she’s terrified of having her heart broken, she can’t stay away from Declan.

The chemistry between the two of them is combustible. But both of them are scared of getting their feelings involved, although for different reasons of their own

He’d made rules for himself, rules he’d meant to keep. But this wasn’t love; this wasn’t emotion. This was pure, raw, physical connection.

Both Declan and Molly hide a troubling and dark pasts. While Molly’s story is revealed in bits and pieces, Declan’s continues to be shrouded in mystery.

Can Molly get to the heart of the man, without getting her own broken in the process?

I really enjoyed this book. Though there were moments where I wanted to smack Molly, given her history I can understand some of the thoughts and decisions she made. I did feel the ending was a tad bit rushed, especially since there was a lot of buildup toward the big revelation of what truly happened between Soren and Declan. But it looks like we will get a continuation on their story in Soren’s book.

If you like steamy BDSM-y romances with a hot tatted up, rock star Dom, definitely give this one a try.

I am thrilled to hear that Soren’s story is next. He’s mysterious, he’s BLONDE, and his name is SOREN. I’m still on a Mistress hangover, so this is definitely music to my ears 🙂

Reckless (Renegades, #1)Reckless by Skye Jordan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5+ Panty-melting Stars

If this was passion, it was more intense that anything she’d ever felt. Overwhelming. Obsessive. Dark

So if my inner dirty girl had an imaginary interview with the characters of this book, wonder what it would go like?
Well no need to wonder, because I’ll appease your curiosity.

All character quotes came directly from the book, I’m not that creative 😉

ME:
So Jex, you’ve just been screwed over yet again by a beautiful woman that used you for your connections as a famous stuntman in the movie industry. How does that make you feel?

JAX:
I’m so sick of this bullshit.

ME:
Uh huh…Uh huh…I can understand that. Do you think it has something to do with the fact that you tend to pick your women just based on the fact that they’re good looking? OK, no need to glare at me…moving on.
So let me ask your good friend Wes his opinion.

WES:
You could try fucking someone with a few morals for a change. And the last thing I’m gonna say on this, because it’s really your problem, if morals don’t interest you, how about hooking up with a chick who’s at least nice to you for a change? I’m starting to think you’ve got some masochistic fetish.

ME:
Well since you’re flying to New York for a stuntman job on a new movie, we’ll come back to you in a few, Jax…
Now Lexi, so your friend Rubi just pointed out that your couture dress business is really lacking inspiration for fresh-new designs. Could it be partly because of your lack of…uhem…male attention recently?

LEXI:
Nice. Point out what a loser I am the night before I fly across the country to meet Martina Galliano to discuss to proposition of my career.

ME:
Well no need to get huffy here! Maybe you just need to just get down to business with the next hottie you meet? You used to be a model, you’re not exactly hurting in the looks department.

LEXI:
My name is Lexi and I’m a sexual train wreck.

ME:
OK. OK. No need to get melodramatic. I get it. You’re fed up of men only using you to be arm-candy, and not seeing past your looks. Gotcha. Good luck with your meeting in New York then.

ME:
So Jax, let’s get to the really important questions here. Tell me, what’s your penis size?

Jax:
I’m assuming you mean erect. 9” length, 2 ¾” diameter, which corresponds to 8 ½” girth.

ME:

Yep, I can definitely work with that. Now what kind of sex do you like?

JAX:
I like the fiery, fast sex so passionate your vision blurs.

I like wild, frantic, have-to-have you sex that burns you alive.

I like deep, driving sex where sweat drips off my chin, rolls down your spine, and tickles the dip between your ass cheeks

ME:

Uhhhhh…..give me a second here….I think I just had an orgasm. Don’t mind me, please continue

JAX:
I like secret sex in naughty places, and naughty places to have secret sex.
I like the kind of sex that includes sliding my tongue in all your very tight spaces.
I like any kind of sex that drives animalistic sounds from your throat.

ME:

Um…what now? Oh! Sorry! Got carried away here…
Moving on then…
So, Lexi, seeing as you just spotted Jax at the airport, and got a case of insta-love. What type of man do you crave?

LEXI:
This was the kind of man she craved – a rough-around the edges, blue-collar, hard loving man. A few tattoos, a dark background, confidence in the bedroom… or the bed of a truck… or on the back of a motorcycle…

ME:

MY FINAL THOUGHTS

I loved loved loved FUCKING loved this book! I don’t think I disliked one single thing about it! The characters were fantastic. I loved both Jax and Lexi. The steam? Good Gawd but did Jax know how to get things done!

I’m pretty sure I went through multiple underwear changes. What? TMI?

But in all seriousness, I have found a series to add to my auto-buy list. I am so excited that this will be a series, and it’s based on super hot Hollywood stuntmen! What more could a girl ask for? Cannot wait for the next book. I’m dying for Rubi’s book. She was such an awesome comedic relief in this story as Lexi’s BFF. I loved her spunk, and blatant flirtatiousness. I can only hope that her and Wes’s book will be next.

But what are you still doing reading my review. Go read this! Now! Seriously! The book is fucking awesome! Just make sure to bring Jax back to his rightful owner once you’re done with him. I’ve already branded him and everything. Mine mine mine. And once you meet him you will completely understand my obsessively posessive ways 😉

But that’s all the ramblings from this girl for now. I’m off to have some more dirty thoughts about Jax.
And I thank you!

ARC review: Maverick by Anna Cruise

MaverickMaverick by Anna Cruise
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The ocean was an extension of myself, the only place where I could find solace and peace. And even though I’d lost my best friend to it, I couldn’t let it go, couldn’t turn my back to it. I couldn’t exist without it.

There was something in his voice, in his eyes, something that hinted there really was more to him than the public persona I’d read about. He was damaged.

If I’m being honest here, what initially drew me in to read this was the hot cover. What? Like you’ve never done that! Please!

I was so happy to find that this book was filled with more depth than I had when I was choosing it. 🙂

Kellan Handler is a professional surfer. It is all he’s ever dreamed of doing, and the ocean is the only thing that is able to give him peace.

He hits the water hard, and parties even harder. His reputation and good looks never leave him without a female body in his bed. But he’s not interested in anything more than a casual hook up. So he goes through women like he goes through waves; he find one, takes it on, and then moves on to the next one.

But beneath the shallow exterior, still waters run deep. He is still dealing with the pain of losing his best friend in a tragic accident; his hidden grief causing him to walk a fine life that can ultimately cost him everything.

When tour officials essentially tell him that he either clean up his image or be suspended from the tour, Kellen reluctantly agrees to work with the PR rep assigned to him, Gina Bellori.

Gina is dealing with demons of her own. But unlike Kellan, hers are buried even deeper, and she refuse to let them break the surface.

When Kellen and Gina begin to work together on righting his image, things began to blur. The damaged guy is forcing Gina to fight even harder to keep her demons hidden. All of a sudden her past begins to collide with her present, with Kellen right in the center of everything and her feelings are becoming more difficult to control.

Kellen begins to find that for the first time in his life, he wants something more from a woman other than a few moments spent between the sheets.

She knew everything about me and pretty much the only thing I knew about her was her name. And that she was starting to get under my skin. In more ways than one.

Can the two damaged souls heal each other? Or will the secrets that they keep ultimately cost them everything?

I really enjoyed this one, and read it pretty much in one sitting. I really loved Kellan, but had a few issues with Gina and her behavior. While Kellan’s past and secrets come to the surface fairly early in the book, Gina’s tragic past takes a little longer to learn about.

These two characters were both damaged in their own right. I really liked that there was no case of insta-love, or even insta-lust. There was definitely a connection between the two of them, but it grew over time.

So why only 4 stars? I felt that the character POV’s didn’t have a clear transition. It caused me to get slightly confused, since I didn’t know when they switched, and didn’t know who’s POV I was reading right away.

The book had a very realistic HEA, and I was glad that the author went the route that she did with the ending. I felt it was very fitting to the story and the characters.

Rock Chick Revolution by Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Revolution (Rock Chick, #8)Rock Chick Revolution by Kristen Ashley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Rock Chick Stars

“You’ve got your way, the way you are and the way you are with the ones you care about. And that tells me, a man gets in there, you give that to him, the children you give him, that man will be all kinds of lucky. And I’ve decided we’re gonna see if that man is me.”

Well, Ava & Luke and Sadie & Hector still hold first place for my favorite Rock Chick couple, but I have to admit that Ally and Ren definitely came in at a very close second.

I can’t say that this was my favorite book in the series, but I will tell you that it was a fantastic conclusion to the series.

So what was my favorite part of Rock Chick Revolution, you ask? I have a one word answer for that: REN.

The man made my happy place tingle the entire book. He was equal parts bad-ass alpha and sweet, without being obnoxiously overbearing or possessive. Now if I’m being honest here, the urge to lick a fictional character is really nothing new for me. (What? That’s perfectly normal, OK!) Ren took it to a whole different level for me, and I found myself developing a very close and personal relationship with my Kindle while reading.

(What? That’s perfectly normal, too! God! Stop judging me!)
But I digress.

My biggest issue with some of the Rock Chick heroines were their constant and consistent TSTL tendencies. So I am very happy to report that Ally didn’t irritate me at all in this book. She was incredibly endearing. I loved how tough and tenacious she was, yet still had that emotional and soft-hearted center beneath the tough-girl shell.

I was a Rock Chick. I had a lot of friends. I had a lot of good times. The concept of “anything goes” was pretty literal for me. I didn’t have issues speaking my mind. And I didn’t have issues creating a drama if the situation deserved it. I also didn’t give a shit if someonedisagreed with the situation deserving it.
I was… me.
I wasn’t girlie.
I wasn’t romantic.
I didn’t have fantasies (except those that came while wielding a vibrator). Let’s just say the knight in shining armor concept did nothing for me.

Well Ally, a knight in shining armor may not do anything for you, but a hot-headed Italian sure did.

The first 20% of the book we get flashbacks to the relationship (or lack thereof) between Ren and Ally for the past year. Ally fell for Ren pretty quick, but had her hopes of a future with him shattered when Ren unknowingly did something that wounded her deeply. Unable to deny the chemistry between them, Ally insists that they stay on a casual hook-up basis. Which, c’mon Ally, we’re talking about Ren here? Just casual hookups? Like friends with benefits? Really?

Of course Ren is having none-of that, and he definitely doesn’t hold back his thoughts about the matter.

You invited me in, Ally.”
Around the time you came when my mouth was between your legs on my stairs. Then again when you came when my cock was driving into you in my bed. Then again when you wrapped your mouth around my cock, also in my bed. And a-fuckin’-gain when you found it while riding my cock, also in my bed. And last, when you wrapped your sweet, hot, naked body around me and passed out in my bed.”

Ally is not exactly thrilled with Ren. She’s had enough testosterone alpha-speak from her brothers and The Hot Bunch.

Okay, I’d had a variety of Rock Chick chinwags where the girls let it all hang out about their guys and how they communicated in Asshole, but I’d never experienced it personally. And Ren had just demonstrated he was fluent in Asshole. It must be said, I didn’t like it much.

Well Ally, you might not like it, but it certainly made my happy place tingle. So you’ll be getting no complaints from this girl.

Ren was just delicious, and when it came to getting his way with Ally…well let’s just say he had a FANTASTIC way of going about it.

Don’t get me wrong, while Ren was a hot-headed, dirty-talkin, panty-melting hot; he also had an incredible sweet side to him. I loved the way he fought for Ally and to prove that they should be more than just casual. Nothing better than a man that can admit when he’s caught.

You gave me a run for my money, and once I stopped finding it a pain in my ass and started enjoying it, I did nothing but. I enjoyed every fuckin’ second, Ally. And every fuckin’ second I’ve never doubted how I was feeling. And just to be clear, how I was feeling, every day through this game we’ve been playing, was that I was falling deeper in love with you.”

There’s a whole lot of action, and we get to check back with all the Rock Chicks and Hot Bunch. I can’t say that I was so enthralled with this book that I couldn’t put it down. It did take me much longer to finish than my usual reading speed, and I did find myself skimming through certain chapters. But I still really enjoyed it.

P.S.
The best part about KA books, are her epilogues, and this one definitely didn’t disappoint.

P.P.S
Dear Ren,

So that’d be all the ramblings from me for now.
And I thank you!

Release Me (The Stark Trilogy #1) by J. Kenner

Release Me (Stark Trilogy, #1)Release Me by J. Kenner
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Damien Stark is just one of those dark, quiet types. He’s like an iceberg, Texas. The deep parts are well hidden and what you do see is hard and a little bit cold.”

Well what can I tell you about my thoughts on this book…

seems to be an adequate description.

I didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it. To be honest, I’m having a hard time remembering anything about it and I just finished reading it.

I never really connected with the story, or the characters. I suppose you can say it was a case of ‘been there, read that’.

There was Nikki:

Nikki is a former Texas beauty queen, currently working for a company that is looking for Damien Stark’s investment. Thankfully she wasn’t an excessively naive virgin, but she still gave me an eye roll or 12 through the book.

Then there’s Nikki’s mother:

I think that about covers that…

And then we have Damien Stark

I have to admit that Damien peaked my interest. The few crumbs that we were given about his past is the only thing that intrigue me enough to continue with this series.

As for my thoughts?

Nikki and Damien’s penchant for referring to one another as Mr.Stark and Ms.Fairchild

The story?

That was about it. There were bits and pieces here and there that didn’t have to do with how much Damien wanted Nikki, or how hot Nikki was for Damien, but they kind of got lost in the process for me.

Damien’s “kinkiness”?
I ask you, why is it that whenever a few spankings, control, and light bondage is involved, all of a sudden the hero is kinky? Maybe I’ve been desensitized to this sort of thing by reading the Lexi Blakes, Cherise Sinclairs, and Shayla Blacks? I don’t know

I mean Damien was very hot, and I did enjoy his character a lot. So he likes to be called Sir during sex. OK. But I wouldn’t really go so far as to call him a Dom. At least not to me. Guess I’ll have to see what happens in the next two books.

The Sex
MEH. This happens very rarely to me, but I found myself skipping through not only a lot of the book, but the sex scenes as well. I know! Shocking right? This is me we’re talking about here! I love me my smutty smut. And here I find myself thinking

Now before you start grabbing your pitchforks and torches, I’ll say that it was not due to lack of hotness. The steam was definitely there. It’s just that I never really connected to this book, so I had a hard time being interested in the sexy part of it either.

Truthfully, I was neither here nor there while reading it. I have no opinion on it one way or another. I can’t say it was bad, but then I can’t say it was great either.

My brain while reading Release Me?

There was a very interesting set up for the next book, and I’m curious to see how it plays out. I’ll reserve my judgement of this series until I read book 2 and 3. So fingers crossed.

So that will be all for this girl’s ramblings here. I’m off to read Claim Me.

And I thank you!
