Author Spotlight, Interview & #Giveaway with @TiffanyASnow

Tiffany Snow was born in St. Charles, Missouri, where she developed a fondness for trivia games, the music of Elvis Presley, and romance novels. After earning two bachelor’s degrees—one in social studies education and the other in history—she went on to work in the information technology field. Now, the author of the popular Kathleen Turner Series writes full-time, when she’s not quoting When Harry Met Sally or dancing along to her favorite ’80s hair band. She resides in the Midwest with her husband of eighteen years and their two daughters.

Many readers know you for your Kathleen Turner series. How does your newest heroine compare to Kathleen?

TS: She’s very different from Kathleen. Ivy is someone scarred by her past and her character is one shaped by what she’s had to endure. This profoundly affects her and her relationships with men. Kathleen was never someone who had the kind of issues Ivy does.

Since you write in first person, how much did you live inside Ivy’s head during IN HIS SHADOW?
TS: It’s hard living inside Ivy’s head because she’s very different from my own personality. Whereas I might approach some situations in one way, Ivy doesn’t because that’s not who she is. I have to be inside her head to write her in a believable way.

When Ivy first meets the mysterious (and sexy) Devon, she is both attracted to him, but also realizes that he is dangerous. Which emotion takes over?

TS: Devon doesn’t give her a lot of choice in the matter and it’s partially because of his demeanor that she sees him as someone she could be with despite the issues she faces from her past. I wanted to write a love story in reverse—sex comes first, then love, with two people for whom love is the most elusive of emotions.

How do the two of them become involved?

TS: Circumstances put them in the other’s path, but there’s an attraction there, too. Devon’s motivations are part of the story and I don’t want to spoil it, but part of it is that he wants Ivy simply because he does. Ivy’s motivations are from opportunity, and a desire to have what she hasn’t had before.

What inspired you to write Devon’s character? How did you picture him while writing?

TS: I was captivated by the love story between Vesper and James Bond in Casino Royale. Her death was tragic and its effect on him profound. I wondered what would happen if a man like that in a career like that did initially find a temporary diversion with a woman that turned into love. How would that happen and how could they have a happily ever after?

What’s next in the Tangled Ivy series?

TS: Shadow of a Doubt, book two of the trilogy, will continue the story of Devon and Ivy and releases in May of 2015.
