Review: Falling Out Of Hate With You by Lauren Rowe

FALLING OUT OF HATE WITH YOU
Series: The Hate-Love Duet #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Author: Lauren Rowe
Release Date: April 15,  2021

I’ve tried to like Adrian Savage, the mercurial frontman for Fugitive Summer, while serving as his band’s opening act on tour.

We’re stuck together for three months, after all.

And I’m well aware I’m lucky to be here.

But it’s proved impossible.

He’s far too rude and dismissive a guy to get along with.

And way too good at getting under my skin. In fact, at this point, I think it’s fair to say I downright hate his guts.

Global thirst trap that he is, though, I’m finding it extremely difficult not to want to jump Savage’s bones, despite how much he infuriates me. I hate myself for it. But my body is going rogue on me. It doesn’t matter, though. I’m determined to resist him.

In fact, what I’ve decided is that, as long as I’m here and stuck with him, I’m not only going to give Savage the sound tongue lashing nobody else around here has the balls to deliver, I’m going to bring that bad boy to his knees.

AMAZON

We’ll have smoking-hot hate sex in every position, in every city, for the rest of the tour. And when the tour is over, we will be, too.”

I don’t always read rockstar romance, but when I do, you best believe it’s enemies to lovers. This trope is my catnip. And there’s just something extra delicious about a famous rockstar being thrown into the mix.

Adrian Savage is the front man of Fugitive Summer with a reputation to rival any rock star. Which is to say he’s no exactly known for being a choir boy. Pun intended. But I digress. Adrian also has a thing for a god challenge, and nothing is more appealing than a female that’s completely forbidden to him.

Laila Fitzgerald is a rising star in the music industry of her own accord. She happens to have a thing for the a-holes. And Savage? Well he just happens to check every box for her. And it’s all sultry looks and come hither glances when they first see each other at a party, until Savage finds out his best friend and band mate has a thing for her, and Laila finds out she’s the opening act for Fugitive Summer and Savage is less than thrilled with this. Then it’s all sharp barbs and insults with a heavy undercurrent of sexual tension.

Now I’m all for the back and forth and the angsty feels, but I’m not a huge fan of the entire premise of the book relying on one misunderstanding that one solid conversation could prevent. So I’ll admit I was entirely frustrated with the two of them and their continued back and forth of misunderstanding that can be fixed with a simple conversation they both stubbornly and immaturely refuse to have. On the other hand, it was oddly entertaining. I’m not sure how I feel about it honestly. I’m conflicted. I liked it and then it frustrated me?

But I digress again. I loved the hate lust and the slow burn. I was frustrated by the constant miscommunication. But then I also couldn’t stop reading it. So consider me hooked here. I’m already salivating for the next book. These two clash hard and come together even hotter. So I’m dying to see how they get past all of the craziness that happened in book one.

There was no safe zone. It was all heat and fire between us. And even my fear of burning us both to the ground wouldn’t keep me from dancing in the flames with Tori.

After a rec from a trusted book buddy, I walked into this book with two very distinct disadvantages:

1. I haven’t read any other books in this series
2. I’ve never read this author.

And you know what? I fell in love with the story, the author’s voice, and the slow burn and emotional romance.

I’m what?” Her voice was soft. Hesitant.
She was so many things. But as I took her in, only one word pushed its way past all the sludge in my head. “Beautiful.”

Every now and then you try a new to you author and find yourself wondering why on earth it took you so long to try a book of theirs. That was most definitely the case here. Because this book? It was beautiful! It was a dazzling and heart wrenching romance full of emotion and swoon! It was a breath of fresh air in a sea full of rock star romances that all sort of blend into each other. This one stood out in the best of ways and I couldn’t get enough of it!

Prowling the stage, he roared into the microphone, completely at home amidst the chaos and confusion.

Stories with dead spouses always make me hesitant because the deceased is either villainized or the new love interest comes across as a consolation prize. This romance was nothing of the sort. Victoria “Tori” loved Rhenn and loved him immeasurably…until a tragic accident ripped him from her life. A shadow of the woman and beloved rockstar that she once was, Tori has been sort of floating through the years since the accident in a haze of pain and waking nightmares. The last thing she expects is to fall in love with the rising rockstar that she’s essentially put on babysitting duty with after one too many fights puts him at risk of real jail time. But traveling on tour together, these two opposites attract in a slow burn of all slow burns, and I fell hard!

He’s going to wreck you. It should’ve scared me, that voice in my head. But I didn’t pay attention. Because I was already wrecked. Love had wrecked me a long time ago. And this wasn’t that.

Logan is the bad boy rocker that will steal your heart. This is not your stereotypical rockstar. Beneath the anger and uncaring attitude, is a wounded soul and a caring heart. He was such a multilayered character.

Tori was the perfect balance to Logan’s intensity. Talk about your wounded characters. Tori was beyond broken. But beneath the scars lay the heart of an incredibly strong woman that soon came to realize that it is possible to love again.

The rain eased, leaving only tiny tears staining the fallen leaves and other casualties of the storm. Us … we were the casualties. Logan and me. But in that moment, I saw nothing but a shiny new world illuminated by the moon peeking from behind heavy clouds. Hope and warmth and promise spread from the place we were joined. And for the second time in my life, I fell in love.

Down To You was a rollercoaster of heart wrenching pain and swoon worthy melt-your-heart moments. It was the perfect storm of emotion and romance.

You’re my redemption, Victoria. You’re everything.

And while it was clear that there’s a dynamic between all these characters that has carried over and built up throughout the series, it never took away from my enjoyment. I do think I would have loved it even more had I read the series in order, but that’s entirely my fault and my habit of starting series back asswards. What can I say? I’m a rebel like that. But if you’re looking for a rockstar romance that’s full of depth and a story you won’t be forgetting any time soon, this is a book that you need to read!

Review: Perfect Pitch by Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott

PERFECT PITCH
Series: Found In Oblivion #5
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic Romance
Author: Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott
Release Date: August 4, 2017

A lead singer, a professor, and another lead singer walk into a bedroom…

Molly McIntire loves her career as the lead singer of the band Warning Sign. Who she does not love?

The cocky, seductive lead singer of The Grunge, rockstar Luc Moreau, who through a series of misfortunate events ends up singing with her.

In her band. On her stage. Together.

It’s like getting naked, with a microphone between them. So is there any surprise they’re tempted to hate screw each other afterward?

But someone sees them with their tempers running hot. And open-minded Professor Ethan Haywood wants them both, in every dirty, decadent way. For a night or so much more.

Except he’s not the only one who’s watching them—and the band. Their every move is being monitored, and when the lights go out, not everyone will still be standing.

Suddenly it’s not just about falling into bed for Molly, Luc, and Ethan, but falling in love when everything they know and love is in danger.

Author’s note: This book contains mènage scenes, and while the men are always focused on the woman, they also focus on each other. With and without their clothes on.

Author’s note part deux: While the romantic relationship ends in a full HEA, there are ongoing events that will not be fully explained or resolved until the next book, Raw Rhythm.

A lead singer, a professor, and another lead singer walk into a bedroom…

I was honestly just going to end my review here. Because, c’mon! Sweet mother of ovaries, people. This book was so ridiculously hot, I still can’t even.

But beyond the hot cover and the ridiculously hotter set up, what truly sucked me in was the story. Being a longtime fan of all things Cari and Taryn, I love getting more of my Oblivion peeps in this spin off. And Jazz being one of my favorite heroines, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the story of her sister, Molly.

Molly is finally in a great place in her life. She’s the lead singer of a band, she has a great relationship with her once estranged sister, and she’s living on top of the world. Who needs a man to complicate things. Especially one impeccably dressed man that has a deliciously dirty mouth and a penchant for the kinky things in bed that she can’t seem to stay away from.

Professor Ethan Haywood is never lacking for a bed partner; male or female. But little Molly has been the star of his every fantasy lately and he knows he’ll stop at nothing to have her. Even if she thinks that they’re nothing but an itch to scratch. Another man coming into the picture should be a complication, but proves to be so much more.

Luc Moreau finds himself in a place he never hoped he’ll be back; rock bottom. Facing the potential boot from his band and his role as the lead singer is bad enough. But when a sexy little powerhouse blows into their recording studio and is convinced that she can sing him out of the water, he’s thrown for a loop. His attraction to her is inconvenient at best. But his pull to the man that already staked a claim on her, is even more so.

Thus begins a delicious game of sexual power plays and playing with fire. Luc and Molly have too much riding on their career to focus on anything besides it. But their connection proves to be too strong to resist. Where Ethan is open with his sexuality, Luc has been on the reserved side. But when Ethan calls him out on his urges, he can’t help but give in. What starts then is a whole lot of sexy.

Much in Cari and Taryn fashion, they leave us hanging at the end. The sadists. While the relationship is a resolved, there’s a terrible even that happens that leaves everything up in the air for the band. And I for one cannot wait to see how it all comes together in the next book.

Idol VIP

Libby

I found Killian drunk and sprawled out on my lawn like some lost prince. With the face of a god and the arrogance to match, the pest won’t leave. Sexy, charming, and just a little bit dirty, he’s slowly wearing me down, making me crave more.

He could be mine if I dare to claim him. Problem is, the world thinks he’s theirs. How do you keep an idol when everyone is intent on taking him away?

Killian

As lead singer for the biggest rock band in the world, I lived a life of dreams. It all fell apart with one fateful decision. Now everything is in shambles.

Until Liberty. She’s grouchy, a recluse —and kind of cute. Scratch that. When I get my hands on her, she is scorching hot and more addictive than all the fans who’ve screamed my name.

The world is clamoring for me to get back on stage, but I’m not willing to leave her. I’ve got to find a way to coax the hermit from her shell and keep her with me. Because, with Libby, everything has changed. Everything.

I’m a twenty-seven-year-old, multimillionaire singer-guitarist in the biggest rock band in the world, and I have no earthly clue how to have a relationship with a woman. I could laugh. But I don’t find it funny. Because I want Liberty Bell.

*pause for dirty thoughts about Killian*

And I’m back!
Seriously though, even the man’s name is hot. Killian. *rarr*
But I digress…

Idol marks book one in Callihan’s sexy new VIP series and if this book is anything to go by, this is the start of something addictingly good. This book had a little bit of everything that I love; hot rockstars, angst, tortured rockstars, angst, sexy times, sassy heroines, amazing secondary characters that I’m already itching for a book for, sexy times, fantastic writing, sexy times, humor, and lots and lots of sexy times. You getting the drift here?

I don’t spend time with anyone. It’s writing-composing, practicing, recording, touring, fucking, sleeping. Same old record spinning round and round.

Kristen is a masters of weaving some grade A sexual chemistry and boy do you get that here. When Liberty “Libby” finds a drunken bum passed out on her well manicured lawn, she’s not exactly thrilled. When she finds out that the same ‘bum’ will also be her next door neighbor for the summer, she’s not jumping for joy either. But a few snarky barbs soon turn into an unwilling friendship that soon begins to turn into something much more. But what happens when Liberty finds out that her new neighbor is also the lead singer of the world’s hottest rock band?

Tell me you want this too, baby doll.”
“Want what?”
“Everything.”

The chemistry between these two is so hot, it practically sizzles. What a refreshing change of pace to get a rockstar that doesn’t want to manwhore his way around town. Killian realizes what he wants early on and he’s not shy about going about it. I loved the way he was with Libby. He’s patient and sweet and yet there’s always an edge to him to with his dirty talking ways

There’s no one else like her. There never will be.

Libby is endearingly sassy. Girl can definitely hold her own and she’s not shy about telling it like it is. I loved her spunk and backbone. Sure, she has her issues, but she never lets it own her.

The characters are perfectly developed, and their romance is a natural progression. I love when the author can make that sexual tension burn and Kristen makes it hurt so good here.

I also fell hard for all the secondary characters, especially the tortured Jax. I can’t wait for his story along with the rest of the guys from Kill John. But I’m especially excited for the next book ESPECIALLY after the preview at the end. YUM.

Clearly I loved this book, so why not 5 stars? Well, while I loved the tension and build up of the first and last 30%, the in-between of it didn’t have me as riveted. It was still a fun read, but I had no problems setting it down for a bit and picking it back up later. So while it wasn’t quite the perfect five stars, it was a super solid 4 that I enjoyed thoroughly. If you’re a fan of this author, this is an absolute must read. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it!

Love breaks your heart, fucks you up- perfect, all-consuming chaos.

My name is Faith Keystone, but my friends call me Keys.
I’m the piano player for Hammered.
Did I mention I’m the only female in my band?
That means I technically have five older brothers.
Can’t forget my manager and security team, too.
Alone time is nonexistent.
I escaped an overbearing family to join this happy circus, and most of the time it’s awesome.
Except now, because of one teensy little incident at a show.
Now I have this hulking bodyguard shadowing me like a freaking puppy.
Only this puppy is more like a Doberman with an attitude problem.
And he only knows one word—NO.
I hate that word.
And I hate Quinn Alexander.
The one thing I do like is giving him the slip. Is it wrong that I kinda like when he growls at me after he finds me?
Because he always finds me.
Worst of all? I want him so bad that I keep forgetting I hate him.

Book Trailer

Review4 starsManhandled-DGR

Fuck. My life had become the second circle of hell. Lust sitting on my shoulders with no outlet. Rule one- don’t fuck the client.

I have a confession to make, the second I saw Alex was the visual inspiration on the authors’ pinterest board for Quinn, I knew I had to get my pervy little hands on this book. What? Don’t look at me like that! Have you seen the man? Exactly. Add into that the fact that I love everything these two brilliant authors write, and I have the recipe for a guaranteed winner. And boy was it!

For those that enjoyed Manaconda, this book is a must read! And even if you haven’t read that book yet, you can easily enjoy this one as a standalone. Where Manaconda was a bit on the fluffy side with some great humor and a dose of insta, Manhandled is nothing of the sort. It’s a slow burn, and I’m talking it-hurt-so-good-but-my-ovaries-may-explode-if-they-don’t-do-it-soon sort of slow. I absolutely loved it! There’s a healthy dose of angst and all of it wrapped around a great suspense sub plot that together adds up to one entertaining read.

Damn you, Warden.”
Duty. Loyalty. None of those were synonymous with fuck the client until she was unconscious.

Faith Keystone or “Keys” is the sassy piano player for Hammered. She’s fun loving, smart-mouthed, and everyone’s best friend. I loved her straight off the bat because how can you not? When a crazy fan becomes a whole lot more threatening than anyone ever thought and threatens Faith’s safety, her parents and the band insist that she needs additional protection and no one but the best will do. The best just happens to be in the sexy and brooding shape of Noah’s best friend and former Ranger turned body guard, Quinn Alexander.

Can we just say that name out loud once more? Quinn. Alexander. *rarrrr*

What happens when you take a stringent, growly, broody and all business bodyguard and throw him in with a sassy, never take no for an answer rockstar? A whole lot of sexiness!

I couldn’t deny him.
I couldn’t do anything but hold on and roll my hips in time with his deep strokes.
He hollowed me out and owned every part of me.

This was a slow burn sort of romance, which I loved, and when these two finally do get together? Holy mother of fireworks!

It was so easy to fall into that blackness of pleasure and let my body just ride his storm.
I wanted to be his storm.
I wanted to watch him go blind. Because of this. Because of us.

A fun, at times suspenseful, a little angsty, and a whole lot of sexy kind of read that’s sure to put a smile on any rockstar romance lovers face. If you haven’t discovered these authors yet, it’s about time you get acquainted. I highly recommend 😉

Excerpt

“C’mon. How have you been, really? What’s been going on with you?” he pushed. I frowned at him and he frowned right back. “Liz, please.”

I groaned in defeat. “All right, I suck.”

“Why do you suck?”

“So very many reasons.” I pushed my hair back from my face—no more hiding. “Pregnancy sucks. It’s natural, my ass. I finally stop throwing up, but I’m tired all the time. Giving up coffee was horrendous. None of my clothes fit right because of these stupid breasts, and they ache constantly. I have to pee like every thirty seconds, and then to top it off, I cry every time the Healthy Hound ad comes on. It’s ridiculous”

Little wrinkles appeared either side of his nose. “You cry at a dog food ad?”

“Yes. The puppies jump all over each other to get to their mother and it’s just so beautiful, with their cute little tails wagging and everything.”

He just stared at me.

“I know its psycho, Ben. Believe me, I’m well aware of this.”

“Hey, it’s fine.” He covered a smile with his hand. Too late, the bastard.

“You try dealing with all these hormones going apeshit. Crap. Apeshoot.”

“Apeshoot?”

“I’m trying not to swear,” I explained. “You want the first word our child comes out with to be something bad?”

“No. Gotcha.” The man was incredibly bad at hiding a grin. “No swearing.”

So I’d been knocked up by a rock star. Big deal.

Nothing can ruin a dinner party quicker than a random pregnancy announcement…especially when it’s yours…and the guy that knocked you up is the sexy bearded bassist for a rock band that also happens to be a commitment phobe. Oh and said pregnancy is the result of one stolen night together that really wasn’t supposed to happen and said bassist hasn’t talked to you since. Suffice it to say that Lizzy Rollins is having one hell of a week.

Also, wow, if this was the result of having great sex then I was so never going there again. Not even for mediocre sex. Nothing. I might even rule out masturbation, just in case. You couldn’t be too careful. Random attack sperm could be anywhere, just waiting to get a girl in trouble.

Got your attention now, don’t I? Good 🙂

I’ve been a huge fan of this series since the very first book. Whenever I need a feel good, lighthearted, sexy and laugh out loud rockstar romance, this has been my go-to. Every book has been unique in it’s own right, and I just knew that Ben’s story was going to be a good one ever since we first met him in Lick. If you’ve read Lick, you don’t get the best impression of him there. I gotta warn you, he will have even bigger dick moments in this book. But boy oh boy you will also find yourself falling hard for the bearded sex machine right along Lizzy.

Dreamy dark eyes pinned me in place, owning me. He licked his lips. Every time he did that my hormones erupted into the song of joy, a full orchestra plus heavenly choir accompanying. The whole shebang. It was ridiculous.

While the situation in this book and the back and forth between Lizzy and Ben may have driven me crazy in any other book, the saving grace here is the laugh out loud humor. I couldn’t get enough of Lizzy’s inner monologue. Between Mal’s random appearances and the rest of the Stage Dive crew, it was non-stop fun. Ultimately I have to say it was really Lizzy that stole the show here though.

Goodness, did he look angry. Between the beard and the expression on his face, he looked downright barbaric. He might as well be dressed in furs and carrying a spear, presenting me with the boar he’d caught for dinner. Ah, good old-fashioned Stone Age romance.

Lizzy is Anne’s younger sister, and ever since she met Ben through her relationship with Mal, Lizzy has been enraptured with him. But Ben also knows that Lizzy is hands off for him. Not only did he get warned off by Mal, he’s not the relationship type and knows he can’t give her what she wants. But that doesn’t stop Lizzy’s feelings or her pursuing of him. What begins as innocent texting soon begins to turn into something much more. Until one night where they both throw caution to the wind and finally give into the inevitable.

Unfortunately for Lizzy, Ben seems to have some super sperm. So what should have been one night comes with much bigger repercussions. Now they’re forced to deal with a pregnancy, a rock star that never sees himself getting married, raging pregnancy hormones, and did I mention the raging pregnancy hormones?

A wounded heart was apparently no competition for an overeager vagina. The urge for sperm made no sense. I already had a baby on board. My tart, attention-seeking nipples stood out loud and proud beneath my top, just begging for his lips. The situation between my legs wasn’t any better.

I can’t tell you how much I loved the banter between Lizzy and pretty much every other character including Ben. Even though I did find myself wanting to reach through my kindle and beat the neanderthal with a blunt object at times, Lizzy’s inner thoughts really lightened that up. The chemistry between her and Ben was electric. I couldn’t get enough of it.

Without comment he sat up, grabbing the back of his button-down shirt and pulling it over his head. His chest was so pretty. So hard and big and stuff, it made my IQ drop to my shoe size. Everything about him did. The bearded sex machine turned me into a stuttering fool. Sad but true.

This was such a bittersweet book for me to read because as much as I enjoyed it, I was so sad to see it come to an end. I really hope that Kylie will give us a spin-off and hopefully we won’t be seeing the last of Vaughn.

This was a sexy, laugh-out-loud, and entertaining as all get out romance. I definitely recommend it for all fans of rockstar romance.

If you loved the rest of this series, than you are definitely going to love this one. I’d highly recommend reading the series in order to truly appreciate all the characters and really enjoy it, though you could read it as a standalone.
