You tempt me like no other woman ever has. I don’t understand you and I might never, but I’m going to know you, Ellie Stratton. I’m going to know what makes you smile and what makes you scream out my name.”

I don’t know how this woman does it, but she manages to write books that do it for me. Every. Single. Time. Being a huge fan of her Masters & Mercenaries series, I’ve been salivating for more of the mysterious Lawless siblings ever since we first met Mia and Drew in From Sanctum with Love. I mean, c’mon, a mysterious, brooding billionaire software genius and his 3 siblings that are hell bent on exacting revenge on the people they believe responsible for their parents murder twenty years ago? Yes, please, and thank you!

Ruthless is the first book in the sexy and intriguing series. For those that haven’t read Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries series, don’t worry, you won’t be lost. But for those that have read Mia’s book, Dominance Never Dies, you’ll certainly appreciate the cameos here. I know I sure did. But I digress.

So what does this book have? EVERYTHING.

Revenge plot? Check!
Epic grovel? Check!
Lots of sexy times? Check!
Well developed characters and plot? Check and check!
Suspense? Check!
Perfect Saturday night read? You bet your tuhis!

Riley is the middle brother. He barely remembers the night that took their parents, but he knows that his father didn’t kill himself. Ever since that night, everything they’ve done has been a systematic step closer to their revenge. Now they have their sights set on the StratCast and the CEO, Phillip Stratton and his partner, who may be two of the three people they suspect to be behind their parents’ murder. Unfortunately, Phillip Stratton is now dead, and his daughter is now running the company. Hiring Riley as the company attorney to oversee the corporate buy out from her father’s partner seemed like a great idea to Ellie. But what she doesn’t know, is his interest runs much deeper than a mere paycheck.

It might be wrong. It might be completely unprofessional, but she was going to have him. She was going to sink herself into an affair with him and not worry about the consequences. For once in her life, she was going to do something wild, something for herself.

I loved absolutely everything about this book; the pacing, the character development, and it certainly wasn’t without plenty of unpredictable twists to spice things up. In true Lexi Blake fashion, there was plenty of intrigue and suspense thrown in to perfectly balance the story.

Ellie starts off as a bit of a wallflower, but man, she really comes into her own towards the second part of the book. While their romance feels instant, it is established through weeks of working together. Ellie definitely doesn’t give into the brewing sexual chemistry between them with ease. She thinks things through and I really appreciated that. I also absolutely loved Riley. He’s not quite as singleminded in his revenge plan as his older brother. He knows a good thing when he has it and he knows he wants Ellie for much more than a carefully constructed revenge plan.

This book also had one of the most delicious grovels I’ve read in a really long time. I’m talking SERIOUSLY DELICIOUS levels here. Like half the book sort of delicious!

But it was also so much more than just a romance. All of the secondary characters are carefully plotted and perfectly developed. Everything and I’m talking everything is effortlessly fleshed out. Even the villains of the story are incredibly well developed, which only hooks you that much more. I loved getting glimpses of Bran and Drew and I seriously can’t wait for their books.

Ruthless was everything I could want in a story. It was filled with intrigue and suspense, and enough sizzle to set your kindle on fire. I’m utterly hooked and I can’t wait for more of these Lawless siblings. With the little peek we get of Bran’s story here, I already know it will be just as good as Riley’s, if not better. This author can do absolutely no wrong in my mind. If you haven’t read anything by her yet, you’re seriously missing out, and Ruthless will be the perfect book to start with!

Sexy-as-sin Police Chief Mike Flannery knows the new arrival to Hopewell Springs is trouble. She has a smoking-hot body and a quick wit…and he’ll be damned if that’s not a turn-on. But this former NYPD cop and small-town heartthrob has been burned before, and there’s no way he’ll let that happen again.

New York City Detective Cassie Yates is on the run. A six-month undercover sting in a sleazy bar seemed like a textbook arrest—but now there’s a hit out on her. Armed with fake ID, her K-9 companion, and a police-issued SUV, she flees to a quiet upstate town where she trades her badge and gun for a spatula, finally finding peace in the dream she tossed aside to follow her family into law enforcement.

There’s no denying the fire and ice between them. But as the hired assassin closes in, Mike’s past comes roaring back and secrets are revealed in an explosion destined to tear them apart—if not destroy them.

Who read this book because they were totally lured in by a hot cover?
What? Have you seen those abs? I’m weak, mkay! But I digress…

I love a good romantic suspense, and aside from the extremely hot cover, I was really intrigued by the blurb here. A tough as nails NYC detective meets small town Police Chief that’s running from a painful past of his own? Yes please!

The sparks between these two were instant, but it was a slow burn, which I also appreciated. Cassie may be a cop herself but her aversion to dating other cops makes Mike both suspicious and intrigued. He doesn’t know where the beautiful newcomer came from or what secrets she’s hiding, but he knows that there’s a whole lot more to the story that meets the eye.

Cassie is burned out by her job and her quiet reprieve in the small upstate town is just what she needs. Now if only she can figure out who put the hit out on her after what they all assumed was a successful undercover sting. It doesn’t take her long to figure out that Mike is unlike most cops she knows and she can’t deny the sizzling chemistry between them. She wants to come clean and tell him everything, but can she trust him.

Mike has a history of his own that causes him to mistrust. If anything, this is actually the one thing that ultimately brought my rating down. I didn’t understand his extreme reaction to the situation with him and Cassie. While I get that he was betrayed in the worst ways in his past, the situations weren’t as remotely similar as he was treating them to be. It was over the top and an exercise in frustration waiting for him to finally get his head out of his past and actually see reason. A little too long for my tastes, actually.

Burnout was a well paced suspense plot with just enough romance and steam weaved into it to make it a highly entreating read. There were two secondary characters introduced that I’d love a book for, so I’m hoping this will actually be a series. Tee O’Fallon is a new to me author, but she’s definitely one to watch out for and I’d gladly read any of her future releases.

Review4 starsHot Seal Lover-DGR

He was a revelation to her. A need beyond any she’d ever had before.

Let me sum this up for you in a few words: Navy SEAL, Cajun accent.

I’ll let you marinade on that for a bit.

What? You need more? Pfft! Clearly you’re not easy like me. But this may also be the case because I’m obsessed with all things Lynn Raye Harris. I’ve been a huge fan of hers since the very first HOT book, and suffice it to say I’m thoroughly enjoying the spin-off with some hot Navy SEALs.

Now the order of the book may be confusing, so let me explain. Hot SEAL marked book 1 in Harris’s HOT SEAL Team spin-off. While the time line follows the rest of the HOT books, there is a slew of new characters introduced in the form of a SEAL team that works with the HOT men. Still with me? Good. And while it’s book #11 in the HOT series and #2 in the HOT SEAL series, each book may be enjoyed as a standalone as it’s a different couple with their own HEA in each book. The author gives plenty of background so the reader will never be lost. Unless you’re one of my series OCD friends. In that case pretend you didn’t just read the aforementioned, kay? Great!

Moving on to the review…

Christina Girard is Matt Girard’s younger sister from Hot Pursuit but we don’t really get to know her until this book. So if you haven’t yet read Hot Pursuit, no worries. You won’t have any trouble jumping right in. (Sorry, OCD friends. Ignore this too)

After the scandal of her husband’s affair implodes her life, she’s left shattered, unable to trust any man. Her family life and especially her father just further solidify her stance. Her divorce almost final, she goes out to spend time with her friends and lays eyes on the incredibly sexy SEAL, Remy Marchand. Remy is immediately taken with Christina and wants to explore their attraction further, but all Christina wants from him is one night to explore the chemistry between them.

He wanted it to be more, but she didn’t. And that pissed him off.

One sizzling night together is all they have before Christina runs scared. Now it’s six months later and Remy is part of the mission sent to infiltrate war-torn Qu’rim and get Christina and a few other US citizens out before they’re discovered and captured by dangerous rebels. Now they’re forced to deal with all the unanswered tension and questions between them, but can Christina learn to trust again in order to let Remy in?

But I’m scared. I’m scared it’s too soon and I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m scared you aren’t what you seem to be, and that tomorrow you’ll walk away- I’m scared of so many things.

Considering these two spend the night together pretty early into the book, I was a little afraid it’ll be the case of insta love. That wasn’t it at all. If anything, there was the added spice of second chance romance mixed in with their reunion months later. Remy is understandably angry with her and gone is the sweet man that Christina first met. In his place is the angry, slightly bitter SEAL with an air of danger around him. There was plenty of tension and burn to make this romance deliciously sexy.

It takes Christina some time to really come into her own, but I enjoyed watching her growth throughout the story.

She’d let him back into her life, and she had to ride out the storm to see where it went. She just hoped there was some little piece of her left when the storm was over.

While it wasn’t my favorite book in the series (but I’m a touch biased since I’m practically salivating for Ian Black’s book), it was definitely a satisfying installment in what’s become one of my go-to romantic suspense series.

Harris has become synonymous for me with heart-pounding and deliciously sexy romantic suspense. Her heroes are just the right amount of protective and intense with an air of danger around them. Her heroines are strong and assertive. Her romance sizzling hot and addictive. If you haven’t discovered this series yet, you’re seriously missing out. I’m not just recommending it, I’m insisting you read it. It’s that good.

…it was always her. There’s never been a woman who’s captivated me the way she does. I was ready to turn my world upside down to find a way to make us work, despite the insurmountable obstacles.
But all she ever wanted was revenge.

This series is certainly picking up steam as it goes along and just gets better. Over The Line was an action-packed, sizzling hot ride from begging to end. Add in a splash of forbidden romance between two dueling mafia families, revenge, and a love in spite of it, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for an unputdownable read!

All along, I’ve thought I was becoming desperately lonely. But now, looking at him, I’m afraid maybe I’m just desperate.
For him.

First of all, I highly recommend reading this series in order. While you get plenty of background here, reading Outside the Lines will help put a lot of things in perspective as well as understand the secondary characters more.

The Delgado siblings had to uproot their entire life for Witsec when their Chicago crime lord father was put in jail. Now they’ve learned that there is a contract for a hit on them, and time is quickly running out. No one proves to be more dangerous than the man from Lee’s past with an ax to grind and revenge to seek.

While all the Delgado siblings are struggling with their new personas, Lee is feeling it the most lately. She was on the road to a successful career in finance, and now she can’t even put her illustrious university on her resume. But the one thing she seems to struggle with the most is her complete and utter loneliness. The one man that’s she’s ever gotten close to is the son of her family’s biggest enemy and the person that she betrayed. While she finds herself growing attached to the agent in charge of her family’s case, she still can’t forget about Oliver

Oliver Savoca has one goal in mind; find Lee and get the pass code that may be the thing he needs to save his life. He knows that she’s responsible for hacking the financial program their business uses and them bleeding money since. He just needs the passcode to set things right before his father finds out that he’s responsible for allowing her to get that close to their business in the first place. But when he finally tracks her down, he knows that the passcode is only an excuse and his feelings for her are undeniable.

I enjoyed this book a whole lot more than it’s predecessor. It was quicker-paced, a whole lot steamier and filled with quite a few twists and turns. Lee was a kick-ass heroine in her own right even if she did have me wanting to rip my hair out in frustration over some of her actions. I wasn’t a fan of the way she pursued her connection with Sean. I don’t mind a little love triangle, though I can’t really call it that here. I almost felt bad for Sean with the way everything unfolded. But mostly I disliked this turn of events because I loved Oliver. He really lays his heart out for Lee and at times she almost stomps on it. That’s not to say I hate it, it did add a certain element of angst that I enjoyed for the most part. But I could have done without the lust connection to Sean. It’s personal taste thing and it is is what it is, you can’t help how you feel.

The last 30% I found to be a bit convoluted and almost too much was happening. But ultimately it did the job of driving the plot for the future book as well, so I can’t complain too much. There’s quite a delicious set up for Grant, and I’m already salivating for his book.

Ultimately, this was a super sexy and entertaining read and I can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

You are the only real thing I have left…
I’ve given up all the rest so I could have you. So don’t tell me this isn’t real, Lee. Nothing else is. Only this.

Oh God,” she gasped…
“Oh Chase will do.”

There’s two things I’m guaranteed when I pick up another book in this fantastic series:
(1) I’m going to read it in one sitting
(2) I’m going to love every single page of it.
No really. I’m not even kidding. Ten books into the series and Lynn continues to not only maintain the mark, but exceed it with every turn. They keep getting hotter and hotter and the story lines get better and better. There’s a reason I say this series is my crack and I hope it never ends!

…you’d better be prepared- because I’m not tame, or safe- and I won’t stay within the lines.

Chase “Fiddler” Daniels has always been a great secondary character but I couldn’t wait for him to get his own book. He surely didn’t disappoint. Admittedly I was a little afraid about the whole step siblings thing, but the way that the author handled it was perfect. They obviously don’t live together, and Chase isn’t close to his father (Sophie’s step father). There’s a clear separation. And them both being adults definitely helps quite a bit.

The story itself was addictingly good. Sophie gets herself into some hot water when she realizes that the man that she was dating may be tied to Russian organized crime. To make matters even more dangerous, when she runs from him she takes something of his with her. Something that he’s willing to kill to get back. Police aren’t an option for Sophie when the man hunting her may have leverage over them, so there’s only one man she can think that will help her; Chase.

The last person Chase expected to see on his doorstep is the step sister that he hasn’t seen in over ten years. Having severed all ties with his father, he wants nothing to do with that family and that includes Sophie. But when he sees the imminent danger she’s in, he knows that he’ll do anything to protect her. He just has to make sure that he protects his heart too because the more time he spends with Sophie, the more he realizes that she draws him in in a way that he can’t deny for long.

He didn’t care if he left a mark. Hell, he wanted to leave a mark. He wanted to brand her as his for as long as he felt like this.
However long that might be.

Hot Protector 2 @DGRHot Protector was another hit. I love that Lynn is beginning to add a secondary story going with Mendez and she’s able to do that by flawlessly weaving it into the story. I also loved getting another little taste of Ian Black. I cannot wait for his book to finally come out, but I’ll take whatever scraps the author throws my way in the meantime.

This series is everything I love about Romantic Suspense. It’s an action-packed ride fused together with sizzling hot romance. It’s thrilling and erotically charged and my absolute go-to when I want a guaranteed enjoyable read and I can’t wait for more!

Each book is easily read as a standalone, so don’t be intimidated by the amount of books. However, I strongly recommend reading it in order since the entire series is fantastic!

With Unravel, Calia Read took readers inside the mind of a tormented young woman confined in Fairfax Mental Institute, seemingly without cause. In her new standalone novel of psychological suspense, UNHINGE (Ballantine Trade Paperback, On Sale 1/12/16), Read takes us back to Fairfax, this time to meet a very different patient, equally trapped, but doubly lost.

Hold your breath and count to ten.
Soon it will be over before it ever began.

No matter how many times Victoria Donovan repeats that rhyme to herself, she’s still locked inside a mental institution.

Once upon a time, her life was a fantasy: Wes, the handsome fiancé, a storybook wedding and a white picket fence. But then a picture-perfect marriage warped into something sinister. As Victoria’s world twisted from dream to nightmare, her husband’s jealousy pushed her beyond the breaking point.

Calia Read breaks the mold in this explosive story that grabs hold and doesn’t let go until the shocking truth is revealed. UNHINGE is about a woman trying to reconstruct her past and find the truth somewhere between her memories and her madness with the help of a handsome, mysterious stranger.

I’m beginning to see the truth has its price.
It’s your sanity it wants and craves more than anything.

I was craving a romance that was different and preferably a little bit of a mind fuck and when I read the synopsis for Unhinge, I knew I found myself a winner. It was a book that I read in practically one sitting not only because it read quickly and the writing grabbed me, but because the mystery of what was going on was driving me almost as crazy as Victoria was. Unhinge was exactly the kind of different I wanted.

This is how crazy begins. It creeps up on you very slowly, tapping your shoulder. It makes you turn around in fear. And then, when you think you’re in the clear, it attacks. It grabs a hold of you and drags you down, down, down…

Victoria has no recollection of her life before Fairfax Hospital, where she believes she’s been for the past three years when it’s really been six months. She knows two things; she loves her baby daughter, Evelyn, that’s in the institution with her and that she’s told that her beloved husband, Wes, is dead after a tragic accident. The details of how, why, and when are blurred within the shadows of her own mind. Determined that the hospital doesn’t hold her answers, she stops taking her pills. But there’s another two things that she knows; She sees her supposedly dead husband every day when he visits her in her room and a mysterious stranger that visits her is tugging not only at her memories but her heart. Her mind is frayed, but she’s convinced her husband is alive. So then why is everyone telling her he’s dead?

If you never remember us, that’s okay; I’ll remember for the both of us.

The story is told in alternating flashes of past and present, but what I enjoyed is the past plays out like Victoria’s memory so the reader experiences it right along with her. With ever puzzle piece that she unravels, you get it along with her. Having it told solely in Victoria’s POV just solidifies the experience.

Little by little Victoria begins to unravel the mystery of her past through the pictures that her therapist shows her. She begins to remember the man she loved and the details of the events that led them down the path of her ending up where she is…

I would die for him. Kill for him. I loved him more than life. I couldn’t let him go. I’d found a man who could undress me with just one look. He spoke and I was undone. His actions unraveled me.

The writing was captivating and I was sucked in more and more with each page I read. I was salivating for every new detail and eager to put all the puzzle pieces together.

I think this could have easily been a solid four or five star read for me up until the ending. Unfortunately, I found it to be convoluted, OTT and quite honestly it ruined the effect the entire book had for me quite a bit. I don’t want to say much since I don’t want to give it away, but while it was meant to wrap things up, it left me with more questions than answers about the hows of it. I certainly didn’t see it coming, so I suppose the twist of it worked in that respect.

While the ending left a little something to be desired for me, I still enjoyed the book and definitely recommend it for readers that are looking for something a little different with a dash of suspense. I loved Calia’s writing style and I’m hooked on the series. I love the Girl Interrupted vibe of it all so I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment which I’m hoping will be Reagan.

Review2 Stars

I’ve been such a huge fan of Maya Banks, but I’m finding that most of her recent releases have been slightly less than lackluster for me lately. While I loved the first five books in the KGI series, since book six it’s been taking a significant decline for me. The story lines are just OTT out there, the characters not quite what they used to be. But still I was holding out hope for Hancock to finally bring this series back to what it used to be. I’ve been eagerly anticipating his book for years, so I was beyond excited to get my hands on Darkest Before Dawn….only to be disappointed.

The first 25% of the book I struggled to get into it. It was repetitive to the point of redundancy. Hancock’s internal musings of him being the bad guy but for good intentions was repeated ad nauseam. I suppose this is good for readers coming into the series without having read the previous books. But for fans of the series that have been up to date? Well, let’s just say you’ll get a bit of a refresher.

The story really took off after the 25% mark and I found I couldn’t put the book down. The action and suspense really picked up. The budding romance begin…and then it all crashed down after the 60% mark.

The heroine was idealistic and naive to the point of being OTT about it. It’s almost cheesy for me to say that Honor was just too honorable, but that’s what it is. While I really liked her in the beginning, her internal monologue and reasoning after the 60% mark was just beyond anything I could wrap my mind around. I don’t care how much you want the bad guys to get caught, no person in their right mind will reason with themselves that they’re OK with being betrayed and sacrificed for the greater good because it’s the “right” thing to do. She’s not a soldier. She’s a relief aid volunteer. When she finds out Hancock’s plans on using her, she’s not mad, crying, trying to escape. Nope. She accepts it all with the calmness of a woman that was just told that the purse she wanted isn’t in stock. Ah well, it is what it is. In Hancock’s defense, he never lies to her. Unless you consider lie by omission. He never confirms that he’s there to save her and doesn’t give her false hope. But he never point blank admits it either. This was just the beginning of the end for me. His epiphany came a little too late for me to sympathize with him or even like him.

Add into the mix that Honor is a (highlight to view spoiler)virgin (end spoiler), because it’s not enough with her personality fitting her name. Nope. You have to add the cherry on top. Pun intended.

But not only does she accept everything with an unbelievable sort of calm, she asks Hancock to (highlight to view spoiler)take her virginity (end spoiler). Why?(highlight to view spoiler) Because she doesn’t want her first time to be a rape, since that is inevitably what would happen to her once she’s handed over to the man that hired Hancock. Rape. Torture. Death. (end spoiler)
A man with the intentions of sacrificing me for the greater good does not exactly make me go all tingly in the nether regions. Add into the fact that she knows what she has in store for her and how horrific her (highlight to view spoiler) death(end spoiler) will be, and yet her line of thinking is (highlight to view spoiler)Oh, Hanckcock. You’re so brave and honorable for making such a hard decision. Please take my virginity. I want you to be the one. Yep. Not only does she forgive him, but she rationalizes it and praises him for it.  (end spoiler)

After 60% the book just spiraled down faster than a junky on a bender. Hancock flipped a switch and pulled a complete 180; going from badass to p*ssy in 0 to 6 seconds. It was great to finally get the entire KGI crew, but unfortunately it was a case of too little too late. For all the hopes I had for this book, sadly after finishing it, I think I’m done with this series. I kept hoping that it will come back to what it once was, but after 4 books in a row that left me underwhelmed, I just don’t have it in me to continue.

I know what Maya Banks is capable of, and her earlier books are a true testament to that. Her Sweet series was one of my favorites. But sadly the releases she’s had lately seem to be missing a certain edge that her earlier work had. I’m still holding out hope, but not with this series.

Review3.5 starsAlways Dangerous-DGR

God, he loved her like this. Out of control. He loved her begging for him. Loved to see this businesswoman let her hair down and give it up to him.

Always Dangerous was my first book by Dee J. Adams and it’s safe to say after finishing, that it certainly won’t be my last. I love a steamy romantic suspense, and Adrenaline Highs delivers on that end flawlessly. Now you’re probably thinking to yourself, but Lana, this is book 6 in the series and you’re starting with this book. And to you, my OCD friend, I say, I like to live dangerously.
Right then.

What I appreciated about this book and is how effortlessly the author brings a new reader into the fold without being repetitive or overly detailed with what I’m assuming happened in the previous books. This truly allowed me to enjoy the story for what it was without ever feeling like I’m missing details or backstory. Though part of the story takes place in Dangerous Race, there’s just enough detail given to bring you up to date and immediately immerse you into what’s taking place in Always Dangerous.

Leo Frost and Kim Jacobs shared one sizzling night together in a time when Leo lost everything. Now he’s on his way to working his way back to where he began, but their night together left quite a souvenir. When her aunt passes away and leaves her millions in an inheritance, Kim is determined to make her own happily ever after, whether Leo shares that with her or not.

The last things on Leo’s agenda now are kids, and for a deeper reason than he lets on. He lost almost everything thanks to his embezzling accountant and now he’s working to pick all the pieces back up. To say that Kim catches him off guard with her surprise news is an understatement and he makes no secret about how he feels about it. But when her life is threatened, it puts all his protective instincts to the front and he knows that he’ll do anything to protect her and their unborn child.

Knowing the identity of the villain for pretty much the entire book was quite a change of pace for me. I can’t say if it was refreshing or the suspense part lost a little of it’s luster because of it. I think as a reader, I prefer the mystery and the intrigue of trying to figure out who the bad guy is, that knowing it did fizzle things just a little for me. Having said that, the book was not even a little boring. It was quick paced and sexy and packed with quite a bit of action.

I also loved the direction the author took towards the end of the story. While I was an emotional mess reading it, I appreciated what she did with that particular twist and it only served to make the ending that much better.

Miss Adams has a new fan in me after this, and I’m definitely planning on going back and reading all the previous titles in this series. If the final book is anything to go by, I’ve been missing out.
