Spotlight & Author Q&A: ✩Prisoner✩ by @Annika_Martin & @skye_warren

CoverHe seethes with raw power the first time I see him—pure tattooed menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He’s dangerous. He’s wild. He’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

So I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets, too. Then he shows up in the prison writing class I volunteered to teach and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it’s getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night, I can’t stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that’s the thing about an animal in a cage—you never know when he’ll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth, so you can’t call for the cops. He might make you come so hard, you can’t think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath.

Heavy bars close behind me with a clang. I feel the
sound in my bones. A series of mechanical clicks hint at an elaborate security
mechanism beneath the black iron plating. I knew this would happen—had
anticipated and dreaded it—but my breathing quickens with the knowledge that I
am well and truly trapped.
“Can I help you?”
I whirl to face the administrative window where a
heavyset woman in a security guard uniform stares at her screen.
“Hi,” I say, pasting on a smile. “My name is
Abigail Winslow, and I’m here to—”
“Two forms of identification.”
“Oh, well, I already filled out the paperwork at
the front desk. And showed them my IDs.”
“This isn’t the front desk, Ms. Winslow. This is
the east-wing desk, and I need to see two forms of identification.”
“Right.” I dig through my bag for my driver’s
license and passport.
She accepts them without looking up, then hands me
a clipboard with a stack of papers just like the ones I’d already filled out.
I’ve been dreading this day for weeks, wishing I’d
been assigned any other project but this one. You’d think I was being sent here
for a crime. My professor—the one who’d forced me into this—warned me that
prisoners were not always receptive to outsiders. Apparently nobody here is.
I complete each form, arrange the pages neatly on
the clipboard, and bring them back up to the window. The guard accepts them and
gives back my IDs…still without looking at me.
My hands clench and unclench, clench and unclench
while the guard eyes my paperwork.
Seconds pass. Or are they minutes? The damp chill
of the place seeps in through my cardigan and leaves me shivering.
Leaning forward, I read the name tag of the guard.
“Ms. Breck. Do you know what the next steps are?”
“You can have a seat. I have work to do now, and
then I’ll escort you back.”
“Oh, okay.” I glance at the bars I just came
through, then the open hallway opposite. “Actually, if you just point me in the
direction of the library, I’m sure I can—”
Thunk. The woman’s hand hits the desk. I
jump. Her dark eyes are faintly accusing, and I wish we could go back to no eye
contact. How did I manage to make an enemy in two minutes?
“Ms. Winslow,” she says, her voice patronizing.
“You can call me Abby,” I whisper.
A slight smile. Not a nice one. “Ms. Winslow, what
do you think we do here?”
The question is clearly rhetorical. I press my
lips together to keep from making things worse.
“The Kingman Correctional Facility houses over
five thousand convicted criminals. My job is to keep it that way. Do we
understand each other?”
Heat floods my cheeks. The last thing I want to do
is make her job harder. “Right. Of course.” I shamble back, landing hard on the
metal folding chair. It wobbles a little before the rubber feet stop my slide.
I understand the woman’s point. She has to keep
the prisoners in and everyone else out, and keep people like me safe.
I reach down and pull a book from my bag. I never
leave home without one, even when I go to classes or run errands. Even when I
was young and my mother used to take me on her rounds.
Especially then.
I would hide in the backseat with my nose in the
book, pretending I didn’t see the shady people who came to her window when we
stopped.
A little green light above the barred doors
flashes on and there’s an ominous buzz. Somebody’s coming through, and I doubt
it will be a library volunteer. I slide down.
Pretend to be invisible.
It’s no use. I peer over the top edge as a
prisoner saunters through the door, and my pulse slams in my throat double
time.
He’s flanked by two guards—escorted by them, I
guess you’d say. But they seem more like an entourage than anything. Power
vibrates around him like a threat.
Read, read, read. Don’t look.
The prisoner is half a foot taller than the
guards, but he seems to tower over them by more than that. Maybe it’s his broad
shoulders or just something about the way he stands, or his imperiously high cheekbones.
The dark stubble across his cheeks looks so rough and unforgiving I can feel it
against my palm; it contrasts wildly with the plushness of his lips. His short
brown hair is mussed. There’s one scar through his eyebrow that somehow adds to
his perfection.
The little group approaches the window. I can
barely breathe.
“ID number 85359,” one of the guards says, and I
understand that he’s referring to the prisoner. That’s who he is. Not John
Smith or William Brown or whatever his name is. He’s been reduced to a number.
The woman at the desk runs through a series of questions. It’s a procedure for
checking him out of solitary.
The prisoner faces sideways, spine straight, the
corner of his mouth tilted up as if he’s slightly amused. Then it clicks, what
else is so different about him: no visible tattoos. Tough guys like this,
they’re always inked up—it’s a kind of armor, a kind of fuck you. This
guy has none of it, though he’s far from pristine; white scars mar the rough
skin of his hands and especially his forearms, a latticework of pain and
violence, a flag proclaiming the kind of underworld he came from.
The feel of brutality that hangs about him is
compelling and…somehow beautiful.
I drink him in from behind my book—it’s my mask,
my protective shield. But then the strangest thing happens: he cocks his head.
It’s just a slight shift, but I feel his attention on me deep in my belly. I’ve
been discovered. Caught by searchlights. Exposed.
My heart beats frantically.
I want him to look away. He fills up too much
space. It’s as if he breathes enough oxygen for twelve men, leaving no air for
me at all. Maybe if we were in the library and he needed help finding a book or
looking something up, then I wouldn’t mind the weight of his gaze.
No. Not even there. He’s too much.
Two sets of bars on the gate. Handcuffs. Two
guards.
What do they think he would do if there were only
one set of bars, one guard?
My blood races as the guards draw him away from
the window and toward the inner door, toward where I sit. His heat pierces the
chill around me as he nears. His deep brown eyes never once meet mine, but I
have the sense of him looming over me as he passes, like a tree with a massive
canopy. He continues on, two hundred pounds of masculine danger wrapped in all
that beauty.
Even in chains, he seems vibrant, wild and free, a
force of nature—it makes me feel like I’m the one in prison. Safe. Small.
Carefully locked down.
How would it feel to be that free?
“Ms. Winslow. Ms. Winslow.
I jump, surprised to hear that the woman has been
calling my name. “I’m sorry,” I say as a strange sensation tickles the back of
my neck.
The woman stands and begins pulling on her jacket.
“I’ll take you to the library now.”
“Oh, that’s great.”
That shivery sensation gets stronger. Against my
better judgment, I look down the hallway where the guards and the prisoner are
walking off as one—a column of orange flanked by two thinner, shorter posts.
The prisoner glances over his shoulder. His
mocking brown gaze searches me out, pins me with a subtle threat. Though it
isn’t his eyes that scare me. It’s his lips—those beautiful, generous lips
forming words that make my blood race.
Ms. Winslow.
No sound comes out, but I feel as though he’s
whispered my name right into my ear. Then he turns and strolls off.

Q&A WITH THE AUTHORS

Where do you find your inspiration?

Annika: You know those juicy, thrilling scenes in books or movies that you just love to pieces? And you think about them long after? Those sorts of scenes, and the huge emotions around them really inspire me. I love to feel that high-point thrill, and to create books around those moments. A lot of times I start with imagining an exciting scene I want to write and the book goes somewhere else completely, but the kernel, the inspiration still remains buried deep down.

How did you come up with the idea for this story?

Skye: Prisoner was my first collaboration with author Annika Martin. She and I first met because I’d read her books (love them!) and she read mine. We were both in a boxed set together, MAKE ME. We were chatting over email and came up with the idea to write a book together. We knew it would be edgy, and dark, and also fun! And so, Prisoner was born.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Annika: A lot of writers hate revising and love first drafts, but I’m the opposite – I am crazy about revising–I like to mold and change things in big ways once the words are there. But I write a sloooooow and grueling first draft, and I daydream a lot and change my mind a lot. It’s a total challenge! That was one really nice thing about writing in a team—knowing Skye was at the other end, expecting me to come up with something new and exciting every day was kind of nice. But getting those first words down is hard and slow for me.

What is for you the perfect book hero?

Skye: I like them intimidating. Competent. Vaguely sinister and smug. Possessive. Harsh. Cold. Hot. I like them everything that is mean and cruel, even with the heroine. And then… when he stops, when sex and intimacy and love force him to stop, the clouds part. The sun rises on grass still sticky with dew. It paints the world in orange light and long shadows, hinting at what is to come. And that’s the end of the book. Not a wedding. Not a happily ever after. The ending is hope.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Annika: There are themes that writers return to over and over. One of my themes I return to, even when I’m not trying, is two super messed-up people finding love with each other, and being messed up together, and loving each other for their flaws (and not getting rid of them, because to me, flaws are what make people who they are!) So I guess my message is, even if you feel like you’re really screwed up, being really and truly yourself is beautiful and you deserve love.

Tell us about your first book. What would readers find different about the first one and your most recent published work?

Skye: My first dark book was Keep Me Safe… and god, I hope readers see that I’ve grown as a writer. But at the same time, I hope I’ve kept the core of what people liked about Keep Me Safe, the dark atmospheric setting and deep character exploration. Both of those are hopes—but I’d love to hear from the readers who have kept with me and hear what they think!

Does music play any type of role in your writing?

Annika: Definitely. I write now and then at coffee shops and if there are people talking around me, I need to put in earbuds and crank the music. I have specific songs I just loop over and over, usually dark and melodic. Also, I love to run after a hard day at the writing desk, and I crank the tunes and just zone out to the music and that’s when I get my best ideas.

What books have influenced your life most?

Skye: The books that influence me the most have a super strong voice—and perspective. Broken by Megan Hart, Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas, and anything by my cowriter Annika Martin, who also writes as Carolyn Crane.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Annika: And even though he’s broad and heavy, especially because of that, it feels like a caress. His whole body embraces me, his mouth on mine, his hands on mine, his legs straddling my thighs. I’m wrapped in a cocoon made only of Grayson, where it smells like musk and tastes like man and wipes away every thought I should have. Like getting away. Like fighting him.

Or longer pasted at end….

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you!!!

3.5 stars

It would be the enactment of a fantasy, something they would wink-wink-nudge each other about next time they were in the same room. That’s what he’d thought. Expected. He hadn’t anticipated her to reach inside his chest and rearrange everything.

Ever since Oliver was first introduced in Owned by Fate as Caroline’s fun loving with a side of kink brother, I have been absolutely dying to get my hands on the book. Add into that the chemistry that he seemed to have with Caroline’s best friend, Eliza, and I may have squeed a little when this little beauty landed on my kindle. I happen to absolutely LOVE the older brother falls for sister’s best friend trope, and Miss Bailey definitely delivered with this book.

Oliver Preston is successful in his own right, running the newly revamped magazine with his sister. He also tends to like his woman on the short term variety. Relationships? Forget about it. They have a 2 week expiration.

He’s been lusting after Eliza for years, but he knows that he can’t have her. She’s a good girl, and he’s…not such a good boy. He likes his sex rough, dirty, and of the kinky variety. Eliza definitely can’t handle that, she’s the flowers and candy and long term sort of deal…until she gives him a proposition that he simply can’t pass up.

Eliza wants to be trained in the art of BDSM, so she doesn’t come off as a kinky virgin to a sexy Brit she met at the club that she’s hoping to hit it off with. And who better to train her than her best friend’s older brother that she’s been crushing on for years and conveniently happens to be a Dom? So they reach an agreement. Three lessons. Just three incredibly sexy, passionate lessons that she will then use to lure another man. But until that time, she’s all his…

I know what your second punishment will be for. Keeping this tight-as-fuck pussy away from me as long as you have. I ought to pull out and redden your ass right now.

Now I have to say I didn’t find Oliver quite as intense or dominant as Jonah from book one. He was more demanding than dominant, at least to me. Though he was deliciously sexy in his own right…

Mister Preston.”
“You can do better than that.” He licked her ear. “Say, fuck me, Mister Preston.”
Eliza moaned, her head falling back to hit the tile wall. “Yes. Fuck me, Mister Preston.”

Yeah. I think you get what I’m saying here. While I didn’t like this book as much as the first, it was still a fun and sexy addition to the series. Oliver and Eliza together burned up the pages. They were scorching hot.

So why not 5 stars? I got a little frustrated with how long everything in their “relationship” stretched out for. There was this constant lack of communication on both their parts and assumptions that led to even more miscommunication. It was just a little too long for my tastes. Neither of them see the light until almost 95% into the book. But the way that everything wrapped up was EXTREMELY satisfying, so I really can’t complain much.

Don’t miss book 1 in the Serve series, Owned by Fate

The heart is stubborn. It holds onto love despite what sense and emotion tells it. And it is often, in the battle of those three, the most brilliant of all.

Sex Love Repeat by Alessandra Torre

That quote up there? That’s the quote that first started my obsession with all things Alessandra Torre. See here’s the thing; I hate…no…I LOATHE love triangles in any way, shape or form and yet something about that book’s synopsis grabbed me. And you know what? To this day, the ONLY and I mean THE ONLY exception I will ever make to my NO LOVE TRIANGLES EVER rule will be for this amazing author. Though do keep in mind that Sex Love Repeat is not exactly a love triangle in traditional terms, but what it is is an incredible book.
After I finished Sex Love Repeat I binged on Alessandra’s entire backlist. I completely devoured it. And you know what I love the most about her writing? The unpredictability of it. The woman is an evil genius is what she is. She writes unapologetically sexual heroines, unforgettable alpha males, and some of the most scorching hot erotic love scenes I have ever read. If you’ve read any of her books then you know exactly what I mean. And if you haven’t? I’m not sure what you’re looking for. Trust me. You’ll thank me for it.

I’m so excited to have Alessandra Torre at Dirty Girl Romance today so that I may pick the pervy awesome that is her brain. Thank you for joining us, Alessandra 🙂

DGR: For readers that haven’t yet (shockingly) discovered your books, can you introduce yourself?

AT: Absolutely! My name is Alessandra Torre, I am a NYT Bestselling author who focuses on full-length, standalone erotic romances. I am addicted to plot twists and am allergic to boring reads. J If you’re looking for a book to start with, I’d suggest Black Lies or Sex Love Repeat.

DGR: I have to say, each and every single one of your books has always blown my mind for different reasons. You never cease to surprise your readers with some incredibly original and slightly mindfucky (yes, I’m making that a word) books. Where do you get your ideas from? Anything that you get inspiration from?
AT: Secrets are my obsession. I have a very active imagination and will look at someone and try to imagine their secrets, the details about their lives that make them unique. Try to imagine if everything isn’t as it seems. Those inner ideas of mine, if chased down and followed through, often lead to a book idea.

DGR: Having read pretty much your entire backlist, I have to ask; what was your favorite book to write?
AT: Dumont Diaries was probably the most enjoyable to write. Because I wrote it as a miniseries, and released one part every two weeks, it was a very exciting period in time, where the words I was writing would be delivered into reader’s hands just a few weeks later. I had a great time with it.
DGR: Have you always wanted to be an author? What would you be doing if you weren’t writing?
AT: I never thought about writing. Didn’t even consider the possibility that I had talent at it. I was a reader, read 6-7 books a day for over fifteen years. The best book I ever read was On Writing by Stephen King. That book made me want to pick up a pen and give writing a chance. I did – and six weeks later, Blindfolded Innocence was done!

If I wasn’t writing, I would be an assisting my husband in his company. In the past I’ve worked in banking and as a secretary.

DGR: Who are some of your favorite authors?

AT: Lisa Gardner, Stieg Larsson, Gillian Flynn, CD Reiss

DGR: Can you tell us your top 5 favorite books?
AT:  The Client (John Grisham)
The Help (Kathryn Stockett)
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larsson)
Dark Places (Gillian Flynn)
On Writing (Stephen King)

DGR: Let’s talk about Black Lies for a hot second here because OMG Black Lies. What gave you the idea to write a book like that? Was it a sudden idea or were you thinking on it for a while?
AT: I originally had the idea to make the Brant character a woman, and have the book written from her POV. Then I was imagining the type of guy who would date her, and what he would think and experience, and I realized that that story was just as, or even more, interesting. So I flipflopped the book. I had the idea for the book about two months before I wrote it and it plagued me. I had to clear off my writing calendar and did so as quickly as I could because my brain was itching to dive into it.

DGR: Can you describe Black Lies in 5 words?
AT: Deceptive. Secretive. Filthy. Sexual. Mindfuck.

DGR: Now on to the important questions here; the sex scenes (pause for pervy flashbacks). And I’m back! You’ve written some incredibly hot and erotic love scenes. Inquiring minds want to know, where does the inspiration for THAT come from? 😉
AT: Lots of fantasies during sex and masturbation. If there’s anything that makes me particular hot, I’ll try and work that into a scene. I find that forbidden or taboo elements in a scene make it hotter, as do strong emotions, good or bad ones.

DGR: I have an unhealthy obsession with Sons of Anarchy. As in I take it way too seriously and rage and bitch at my TV after every episode. Any shows that you’re addicted to?
AT: Nashville, Blacklist, The Bridge, Forensic Files are my crack. 🙂

DGR: Anything you’d like to leave the readers with?
AT: Just know that your opinion is so invaluable to other readers. One of the greatest thing about reading is to discuss it with others. The internet gives us an amazing platform for that, use it. And please know that I appreciate you, more than you will ever know. THANK YOU for giving my books a chance when there are a million other options out there. THANK YOU for leaving reviews. THANK YOU for discussing and spreading the word about my, and other author’s books. THANK YOU for loving my characters as your own. I truly appreciate it.

And thank you, Lana – for having me on your site!!!!

Blog Tour, Excerpt, Review & #Giveaway: ✩Light Her Fire✩ by @SamantheBeck1

He’ll show this good girl the thrill of being bad…

Good girl Melody Merritt is ready to be bad. Fresh out of an unsatisfying ten-year engagement to the town golden boy, she’s determined to make up for lost time. And who better to burn her sterling reputation to the ground than Bluelick’s sinfully sexy new fire chief whose wicked gaze promises complete and utter domination? Yes, please.

Corrupting the prim and proper Little Miss Bluelick is the most action Josh Bradley’s seen since he transferred from Cincinnati to fast-track his career. He won’t let anything or anyone—not even the delectable Melody Merritt—trap him in this Kentucky-fried Mayberry, but when their searing chemistry yields an unexpected result, he realizes he’s started a blaze that’s completely beyond his control…

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / iTunes

“Oh, sweet mercy, don’t—”

“Don’t what? Torture you until you think you’re going to die where you stand? How do you think I feel every single time I look at you? When you come into Jiffy Java, fiddle with the top button of your blouse while you decide between an iced coffee or a sweet tea, all I want to do is tear your shirt open, shove your bra out of my way, and feast on your breasts. How do you think I feel when you lean on the bar at Rawley’s, talking to your friends while I drive myself insane wondering what you’ve got on under your good-girl dress? Tortured doesn’t even begin to describe it.”

Those diabolical fingers made a circling motion, and Melody’s knees threatened to buckle. “How shameless of me. I’m terribly”—oh, there he went again with the fingers—“sorry.” She wasn’t. Not in the least.

“You will be, because I can’t let behavior like yours go unpunished.”

She closed her eyes and a pathetically small scenario of erotic punishments paraded through her head. Waves of hot and cold washed over her. It was all she could do to find her voice, and keep it even while she asked, “What did you have in mind?”

“When I get you alone the first thing I’m going to do is give you a pillow.”

Uh-oh. She didn’t know the pillow game. “A pillow?” she asked, and immediately wondered if she’d just given Josh a big hint of exactly how tame her sex life had been up until tonight.

“Yeah. Because once I get started, you’ll need something to bury your face in so nobody hears you pleading with me to let you come. Does that answer your question?”

Why yes. Yes it did. So much so, for a moment she could only nod. “A-and then?”

“At that point, I’m going to tongue-whip your clit until you don’t care if the whole fucking town hears you begging. Then, if you ask nicely, I will guide my very eager cock into you”—he rocked his hips again for emphasis, coaxing another moan out of her—“and give us both the relief we’re after. Are you ready, Miss Bluelick?”

4.5 Josh Bradley Can Light My Fire Anytime Stars

You okay?”

“I’m not sure. I think I just had an out-of-body experience.”

“That’s funny, ’cause I just had an in-your-body experience.”

Now where do I find me a dirty talking Fire Chief to put it out? Because I know the dirty talking Fire Chief that caused the fire to begin with. Josh Bradley. Pervy dreamy sigh But I digress…

If you’re looking for a sexy romance that will make you laugh, make you pant, and make you swoon, you need not look further than THIS book. I had a goofy smile on my face the entire time reading it…well, except for those times that I was having the uncomfortable hot flashes and happy place tingles. And LAWD did Josh make my happy place tingle. The dirty talking delicious man that he was.

At that point, I’m going to tongue-whip your clit until you don’t care if the whole fucking town hears you begging. Then, if you ask nicely, I will guide my very eager cock into you-” he rocked his hips again for emphasis, coaxing another moan out of her-“and give us both the relief we’re after. Are you ready, Miss Bluelick?””

Well I don’t know about Melody…but as for me?

Melody Merritt is a good girl. A good girl that has been with her highschool sweetheart for 10 years, was engaged and planning their lives together…until said sweetheart confessed he’s gay.

It’s true. And the worst part about it? Her ex is still one of her best friends and isn’t ready to come out to the entire town, so she covers for him by allowing everyone to think that it didn’t work out because his sexual flavors were a touch too spicy for the good girl. But Melody is tired of being good. She wants a taste of being bad is like, and she wants it with a man that sizzles with passion for her. And why not let that be her town’s newest fire chief, Josh? If going by the sizzling looks he sends her, she’s pretty sure his mind is in the same gutter that hers is currently in.

The looks he sent her warned there would be no respectful wooing- only a short, ruthless chase, her inevitable surrender, and then…please God…complete and utter domination.

Josh, Josh, Josh. What can I tell you about Josh? The man was HOT. Scorching hot.

He’s been lusting after proper Miss Bluelick since he first laid eyes on her. He just didn’t think that Melody could handle his, shall we say, rougher edges? Josh likes things hot, hard, and dirty in the bedroom. So color him surprised when he finds out the town’s good girl doesn’t flinch away when he lets out that side of himself.

I can’t help it. I’m dying. You have no idea.”
“I do. I know exactly what you’re going through, and I have the cure right here. You think you’re ready for my cock? Ask nicely, and I’ll give you everything you need. I’ll fill you so completely you won’t remember what it’s like to feel restless and empty.

Everything that came out of this man’s mouth was just…GAH

But it wasn’t just sizzling hot chemistry and dirty talk. There was also a great story filled with humor that kept me smiling the entire time. I don’t think I have one bad thing to say about this book. I loved the romance between Melody and Josh. Even though things start off pretty spicy with them straight off the bat, it never lessens their chemistry. Samanthe Beck still managed to instill just the right amount of sexual tension into the book to keep you satisfied.

I went into this book without having read the first one in the series (which I was told the main couple was originally introduced in), but I never felt loss. I will, however, be going back and reading that book now because…well why the hell not? I love Samanthe’s writing and I also liked the follow up to the characters from the previous book. I’m also grateful that there were no spoilers of their relationship, so I can go back and read it without feeling like I know something I shouldn’t. Now I’m really looking forward for more from this series and this fabulous author.

Wine lover, sleep fanatic, and USA Today Bestselling Author of sexy contemporary romance novels, Samanthe Beck lives in Malibu, California, with her long-suffering but extremely adorable husband and their elementary-aged turbo-son. Throw in a furry ninja named Kitty and Bebe the trash talking Chihuahua and you get the whole, chaotic picture.

They would be a couple, she decided. Touch— pleasure—had been denied her for far too long. A fact his presence had never allowed her to forget. He’d had other girlfriends so he knew how to handle a romantic relationship. They could do this, could make this work. And they would be vigilant, cautious, never courting danger.

All she had to do was get him to agree.

There was no better time to try. “I’m dirty,” she announced. “Absolutely filthy, and I’m going to take a bath.”

“Good for you.” So mocking.

So unaware of his coming fall.

“Be a dear and help me remove my dress,” she said.

A strangled sound left him. “It has no ties, no zipper. You tug it on and off.”“Well, good news, then. As strong as you are, you  shouldn’t  have any problems.”

His gaze swept over her and heated. He licked his lips, as if he could already taste her. “What game are you playing, princess?”“Does it matter?”“Yes. And why the hell are you looking at me like that?”

“Like what?”

“Like I’m a hero. I’m not a hero. I ’m a villain.”

Did he not realize that only made her want him more? “Well, be a good little villain and help me out of my dress.

“No.” His tone dovetailed into guttural as he added, “I’m not going near you.”

He’s definitely tempted. How thin was his control? “Very well. I’ll near you.” Hips swaying, she closed

The distance between them. She reached out.

He jerked away only to return—closer.

She wrapped her fingers around his wrists and guided his hands to her hips.

He resisted. At first.

“Relax, warrior. We’re protected by our clothes.”

His fingers clenched around her and held on tight. Did he think she would float away like a forgotten balloon?

“What’s…next?” he gritted.

Not exactly surrender, but close enough.

She leaned forward, careful as her breath fanned over his ear. “All you need to do is feel good.”

“I can do that.” He tugged her against him. Suddenly they were flush, the softest parts of her cradling the hardest parts of him. A growl rose from low in his chest as if, in this stolen moment, he’d regressed into little more than an animal.“I’m doing it right now.”

The pleasure…thoughts of being careful evaporated like mist. “Would you like to do more?”“More. Yes.” His lips parted as he fought for breath. Eyes glazing with a wildness he’d never seen from any- one other than condemned prisoners, he squeezed her hard enough to bruise. “I’m going to take more, and you’re going to like it.”
To be denied forever what I crave most…

YEARS. Years, I’ve been waiting for Torin’s book. I’ve been sitting in anxious anticipation from book one just waiting to get his story. But see, here’s the thing…in the past year, I’ve also been dreading it a little too. Why? Because the last few releases from this author have left something to be desired for me. They just haven’t quite been the same, with that signature Gena spark missing. So I was extremely nervous that one of my most anticipated books EVER just may turn out to be the biggest disappointment. And you know what? I shouldn’t have been worried. Gena has officially got her awesome back with this book. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING that I have loved about her books in the past; the snark, the humor, the sexy romance, all of it is back here.

Just so you know, I’ve eaten warriors like you for breakfast.”
“Well, did you spit or swallow? Never mind. Don’t answer. Your sexual kinkiness has no bearing on this situation. I’d appreciate it if you focus.”

After escaping Cronus’s prison, Torin is attempting to find his way back…but he’s not alone. Following him and intent on exacting her revenge for her fallen friend is his previous prison neighbor, Keeley Cael. The Red Queen.

Now let’s stop for a minute here and talk about Keeley. I think I just may have found my favorite heroine in the series after Anya. Spoiler alert: she’s freaking AWESOME! Wow. I just knew that the woman to bring down the big, bad and reclusive warrior will have to be fierce, and holy hell but she was.

She also just happens to be possibly the most powerful heroine in the series. Period. But that wasn’t even my favorite part of the book. Nope. My favorite part was the banter between her and Torin. Keeley is determined to get vengeance. Having been betrayed by pretty much every man in her life, including her father, she doesn’t exactly trust easily. But yet…something about Torin calls to her, almost soothes her. Or maybe it’s just his fabulous ass?

I’m going to do it. I’m going to hit you with a blast of power, and you’re going to writhe in the worst pain of your life. Nothing will ease you.”
“Great.” Then, when she hesitated, he had the gall to add, “I’m waiting.”
“You should be running.”
“Why? Do you want to stare at my ass?”

Torin was everything I thought he would be and then more, in his own book. Throughout the series, you don’t get to see Torin in action too much. Due to the demon he carries, he limits his exposure to others as much as possible, and you’d typically find him behind a computer screen. So I was so happy to get that fierce side of Torin the warrior in this book. Well that and his humor and snark, because let’s be honest, what’s a Gena Showalter book without that, right?

Now I bet you’re all sitting there and wondering the same thing I have been wondering; how in the hell is Gena going to give Torin his HEA if he can’t touch anyone without his demon infecting them with a fatal disease? Is the book going to be completely sexless? Are they going to dream-diddle each other? Do they talkthrough masturbate? WHAT?

What? Was it just me then? Right. Carrying on. Well worry not, because this book was definitely sexy in its own right. The sexual chemistry between Torin and Keeley alone burned up the pages. But Gena definitely throws plenty of satisfying scenes your way too… of the sexy-time variety 😉

How does that happen without Torin making Keeley sick and killing her? Guess you’ll just have to read and find out.

I promise that between the seriously laugh out loud banter

My inability to rile you is maddening.”
“I’ll yell at you if it’ll make you feel better.”
That perked her up, saying, “That would be extremely helpful, thank you.”
“How dare you bare your arms in public! You’re damn right it makes you a tease. It gives a man ideas. Makes him think you’re good at carrying heavy boxes- which just happens to be HIS job! It’s humiliating is what it is.”

And all the side characters; you will not be bored for a minute of the book. The secondary story here was absolutely amazing. (I won’t tell you who it was, but I can tell you that I am now utterly DYING for their book because OMG that plot twist)

Did I happen to mention that we get a lot more of Baden here too? YES

So in short, was this book everything I had hoped it would be? Hell no! It was better! What used to be one of my favorite PNR series is now right back to my auto-buy list and I cannot wait for the next installment.

Come inside The Glamour Patch club to see the star of our show, Miss Vivica Blue.

Do you want to read my diary you nosy little devils? Have a glass of champagne (you’ll need it) and get comfortable because you’re in for some crazy shenanigans brought to you straight from the horse’s mouth.
I can be whatever you want me to be: boy, girl, a little bit of both.
If you have a problem with a man in a dress then best be off with you. If males in make-up give you the willies, then I’ll say au revoir and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
So, who are we left with? Ah, a fine collection of curious souls. I want to tell you a tale of love, because those are the most glorious kind. I want to tell you about real love, a love that transcends labels and gender stereotypes.
The moment I first laid eyes on my Freda I knew that we were kindred. Well okay, I also knew I wanted to get into her pants, but that’s beside the point. My world was a grey place. I was at my lowest ebb. Then she came along and patches of colour began to spring forth. One day the daffodils were yellow and before I knew it, colour was everywhere, lighting up my life.
Love is not about how we appear on the outside, it’s about the soul contained within.
Our story was not a conventional one, but it was ours, and that’s what made it shine.

Killer Queen is a companion novel to L.H. Cosway’s contemporary romance, Painted Faces. It contains scenes that take place before, during and after the original story. It can also be read as a standalone.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 5 KILLER STARS ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Note : As opposed to what my introduction may seem to convey, I am 100 % positive about this book.

Where to start? Last year, I had my sights on a little story for a really long time. I kept reading its blurb, but couldn’t bring myself to open the book and read it. Something, unfairly, kept putting me off about it. I went on with this push and pull dance for quite a while, almost a year I believe.
I was well aware of the thousands of readers that had LOVED the book, many of my friends had recommended it or posted raving reviews about it, but still I felt skittish about it.
Apprehensions, assumptions, are something that can ruin your perception.

My inner dialogue —and I’m ashamed about it — was something like this :
“A romance novel about a Drag and a woman? Really? What an odd concept!”

Yes, I was not thrilled at the idea to read Painted Faces, then. I finally went over my “apprehensions” and read it this summer.

And Painted Faces blew my mind. Indisputably.

I can be whatever you want me to be: boy, girl, a little bit of both.

Last year was also the year I fell in love with L.H. Cosway as an author, she has quite a singular voice and she made me devour her contemporary romance novels, literally making me lose myself in her unconventional and atypical stories.

How could I believe that she would disappoint? I have no clue, and I’m still beating myself over it.

Killer Queen is the second book in Painted Faces’ series . It is told in Nicholas’ point of view in form of journal entries and can be read as a stand-alone.
Remember, in Painted Faces, Freda was meeting Nicholas, her new neighbor, an attractive man with an alternate persona, Vivica Blue. In Killer Queen we finally have a chance to get into Nicholas’ head, to understand a little better how he became Vivica Blue, and what his apparent nonchalance is hiding.

“I’m about as straight as Clint Eastwood smoking a cigarette, wearing a brown leather jacket, squinting his eyes and casually pointing a gun in your face.”

Killer Queen starts a few months before the actual meeting between Fred and Nicholas, with this morsel of a flashback, Nicholas revealing an interesting and significant exchange with his mom…
“She set her lipstick down, picked up her perfume and spritzed her neck and wrists, then pulled out the clip that had been holding her curls in place.
I stared at her, starry eyed, as she gave her reflection one last inspection in the mirror.
-Well, how do I look?
-You look…marvellous.”

Oh, I almost forgot, you have to listen to this fantastic playlist, L.H. Cosway created to go along with the story! Not only the songs she chose are classics, but you’ll find the lyrics to match perfectly Nicholas’ mood.
(Playlist on Spotify / YouTube)

Before meeting Freda, Nicholas was drowning in sorrow, trying to escape his dark depressing thoughts and denying his heartache by blustering away his life all over Europe. He lost his mom early on in his childhood, and was never close to his dad.
“I’m a train wreck, and you do not want to find yourself becoming collateral damage.”

His fambloyant character hapharzadly forged over numerous encounters, he is going at great lengths to immerse the angst and disquiet he’s suffering from, but at the risk of destroying his life.
Fortunately, with the help of a friend, he’s moving to Dublin and far from his usual antics

“It still seriously pisses me off that we live in a world where you can’t be free to express yourself in whatever strange way you happen to choose.”

That’s when he meets, Freda, his neighbor, and I must say their first exchange was endearingly exquisite.
In Painted Faces, I was dying to know what was going through Nicholas’ head, if he was toying with her or was serious, I wanted to know what he really thought about Freda, her roommate and Dorotea…
So as much as it is the same story, Killer Queen didn’t feel like a repetition to me, Nicholas’ POV was informative and enlightening about his provocative persona.
“The grey my world once was is brightening a little. Touches of colour are popping up here and there, like in The Wizard of Oz when things slowly began to transform into Technicolor.”

If you thought you knew how cocky, flirtatious and seductive Nicholas was before, then you are greatly mistaken. He is way worse. Here’s your chance to read the unfiltered version of Nicholas, Dirty thoughts and talk : uncensored. YAY!
“God, this woman was infuriating in her ability to avoid meeting my eyes.”

I must say I loved Nicholas even more reading this book. He fascinated me in Painted Faces but completely charmed and ravished me in Killer Queen. I fell in love with a fictional character, again.

That’s all you’re going to get from me, for those of you who are still strangers to Viv and Freda’s dazzling and enthralling love story, I prefer to let you discover firsthand about it.
For those of you who read Painted Faces, don’t miss this opportunity to get in the mind of Nicholas! And this ends with an adorable epilogue.

To conclude, I must encourage you to go against your concept of traditional, normal, usual romance. L.H. Cosway does writes ODD stories. And I’m saying ODD as the best compliment I could give, with the feeling that behind the odd, you get to discover unique characters, feelings yet unexplored, and vivid new worlds.
You’ll get the romance that I know you are eager for, but you’ll win something of a rare beauty, and this is all the difference there is between your common romance novel and a L.H. Cosway’s book.

Blog Tour, Excerpt, Author Q&A & #Giveaway: ✩Blue Dahlia✩ @Vivwinslow

Title: Blue Dahlia
Author: Vivian Winslow
Genre: Erotica
Release Date: October 16, 2014

Blue Dahlia is the first book in the second trilogy of Vivian Winslow’s Gilded Flower series, featuring Lily Baron’s free-spirited twin sister, Dahlia.

New York socialite Dahlia Baron is falling for her Latin lover, Rodrigo Cruz, the scion of the Mama Linda Latin foods empire, and hopes to take the relationship to the next level. But there’s is a dark secret that she must deal with first in order to truly give her heart to him. When Dahlia visits the man from her past, will the undercurrents of her emotions let her go to Rodrigo or will they pull her back to the one person who stands between them?

Mature readers only. 18+

Dahlia leads Rodrigo up a wide flight of stairs and through a small photography exhibition with a sleepy guard standing by the entryway. They cross the empty room to an unmarked door. She produces a key card and swipes it.

“How?” Rodrigo begins to ask.

She replies with a wink and closes the door behind them. “This is where they keep the pieces waiting to be sent to the storage facility,” Dahlia whispers as they walk past rows of cloth covered paintings and wooden crates. As they reach the end of the corridor, Dahlia pulls Rodrigo into the last row.

Without hesitating, he draws her mouth to his, their kiss all-consuming. His hot tongue finds hers and takes the kiss so deep it sends electricity through her body. He always knows what she needs in the moment. Today, she wants all of him. She needs his reassurance.

He cups her face with his hands and gently tugs on her lower lip with his teeth. The desire in his eyes leaves her core throbbing for him. She moans as she feels his generous erection press up against her.

Rodrigo’s hand moves under her skirt, grabbing and kneading her ass before hitching her leg around his waist. Without missing a beat, she leans back against the wall to allow him better access to her snatch.

He smiles seductively, licking his bottom lip as his hand goes exploring, palming her clit. He presses his lips hard against hers, and she relishes in the heady feeling his kisses give her. Her hips begin to move to the rhythm of his fingers, as he glides them in and out of her wet, hot love tunnel.

Dahlia gasps as he begins to move faster. “I want you inside me,” she whispers, her breathing strained by the excitement of the moment. She can’t get enough of him. “Love me now.”

Dahlia playfully bites and licks his neck as she runs her hands through his thick dark hair. “I can’t imagine being anywhere else, baby.”

Rodrigo brusquely lifts her by her ass, and she wraps her legs around him. He moans as he sinks his hard cock into her.

He moves slowly at first, enjoying the tightness of her cunt. Dahlia closes her eyes as he plunges deeper into her core. She likes that he takes it slow with her, his fullness becoming all that she can feel, overwhelming her senses.

Q & A with the Author

1. If you were a dessert, what would you be?

Oooh. Definitely something salty and sweet. There’s a dessert at Big Gay Ice Cream down on the Lower East Side called the Salty Pimp. It’s a soft serve vanilla cone with drops of Dulce de Leche and covered in chocolate. I love anything you eat with your tongue.

2. What 3 things are essential in your bedroom for a sexy/romantic night in?

Music is a must. I change it up quite a bit depending on my mood. Also, the right man (I’m married so that’s a given : )). And, depending on our mood, a toy, prop or just us. Sorry, that’s 2-2 ½ things. Oh, I guess sleeping children. There’s nothing romantic going on when they’re awake.

3. What do you like about writing erotic romance?

I like that I can take my characters to the edge of and beyond their limits. I also get to define what those limits are. The beauty of digital publishing is that there are no set parameters for a particular genre. So it’s been a lot of fun incorporating various elements from other genres (women’s fiction, suspense, etc.) and creating really hot sex scenes to go with them. It’s pure freedom, which for a writer is extremely difficult to find and balance.

4. If you could sleep with any of your characters who would it be?

Ahem. No disrespect to the hot man in my life or to those I write about. I’ve had sex with them all (in my head, except for my husband), and the one I think I’d come back to time and again is Alejandro. He’s a true alpha. Not overly dominating in the way that readers have come to expect because of books like 50 Shades. Rather, he’s confident and secure in his masculinity and is completely self-possessed. To me, that’s what makes a true alpha male. They’re not necessarily assholes or dominants. I think those qualities can often confuse what makes a man a sexy alpha versus a crazy, stalker with low self-esteem masked as an alpha. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that when I picture him, I see William Levy. So hot.

And confession. Gustavo is a close second. Just once though. I’d have to get it out of my system. Lol.
5. Spanking, yes or no.

Abso-fuckin’lutely. Caveat. Can’t be overdone or done every time. Then it’s just abuse, which is so not hot.

6. Do you like to be tied up. If so, why and with what?

Same answer as above. I have an adventurous spirit, and I’m usually game for anything. Whatever is around can work, like a t-shirt. I’m usually a fly-by-the seat-of- her-pants kind of person so sometimes you have to just work with what you have.

7. What do you for inspiration for your love scenes?

Personal experiences aside, I have quite an imagination. : ) I’ve been writing love scenes since I was a young girl. If I’m feeling a need for a kick-start, I’ll listen to sexy music, which varies depending on the scene, if it’s animalistic or sensual. I might also read a scene from a sexy book. It doesn’t hurt to look at some hot guys on the Internet. But that’s a last resort. It’s important to connect with the character and figure out what kind of lover he is, for example, rough, gentle, confident, or dominating, and then go from there. While the books are centered on the female characters, their sexual experiences are defined just as much by the men they are with as it is by them. It’s a mutual scene, so it does take two to make it work.

8. Which character has surprised you the most and why?

Gustavo, without a doubt. He’s played so many roles in my mind throughout The Gilded Flower series. I never conceived him to be a villain. Originally, I wanted him to be an open and intense lover for Lily, one who would challenge her and force her to grow and face her fears. As the series progressed, he kept appearing, and thus his role had to change. I secretly hoped he would be her HEA until mid-way through Calla Lily when I realized that wasn’t going to happen. So then he needed to assume a new role. As the series continues, his story deepens and becomes more nefarious. I love it, and I appreciate how his character is so malleable like that. Makes him even more appealing. Amoral characters don’t lose their sex appeal (most of the time).

A close second is Dahlia. I expected a lot out of her, but now that I’ve written the end of her Trilogy, I just want to hug her for how far her character has come.

Vivian Winslow was born and raised in Southern California. Before becoming a writer, she made a career out of moving around the world every couple of years thanks to her husband’s job. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and two elementary school age children, and is grateful to finally have a place to call home for more than two years. New York is the perfect city to indulge her love of shopping, the arts and especially food.

If she’s not at home writing or running around the city with her kids, you’ll most likely find her indulging in pizza on the Lower East Side or having a cocktail at her favorite bar in Alphabet City. That said, she’s still a California girl at heart and would gladly trade in her heels for a pair of flip-flops to catch a sunset on the beach.

Review: ✩Chasing Temptation✩ by @JoyaRyanAuthor

Good things come in naughty packages…

What does it take to turn a good girl bad? Sick of her interfering brother nosing into her love life―and by proxy, her sex life—Penny Diamond has decided she needs a break from her “girl next door” reputation. And she knows exactly who can help her… Tall, lean, and impossibly intense Sebastian Strafford is rumored to have a sexual appetite with a decidedly wicked flavor.
Unfortunately, he’s also her brother’s best friend. Sebastian doesn’t do relationships. Getting involved with Penny―and giving into that carnal thirst he’s tried to ignore all these years―is just about the worst idea ever. But he’ll be damned if she turns to anyone else for her “education.” So Sebastian makes her a deal: just two weeks to indulge in every sensual sin imaginable. Now he just has to keep himself from falling for the good girl. Especially when she’s so deliciously bad…

Review4.5 stars

She was the one woman who should be running from him, the one woman he shouldn’t want as badly as he did.

If you’re anything like me, when you read Chasing Trouble and the SECOND you got a glimpse of Sebastian “Bass” Strafford, your first thought was

No? Was that just me then?

Nothing better than a dirty talking, dominant, rough around the edges and even rougher in bed lawyer. Yes, please

Time for Operation: Orgasm to commence.”

Penny Diamond is tired of her good-girl reputation and even more tired of her lackluster sex life. With a meddlesome and overprotective brother her choice of bed partners is not only small…it’s next near to non-existent. Even bigger problem? Her biggest temptation and the one man she knows is perfectly fit for the job also happens to be her brother’s best friend.

She didn’t like it…she loved it.
Everything from his power to his strength to the way he spoke. He was an unleashed, dirty talking, no mercy lover that she wanted over and over.

Sebastian is used to thinking of Penny as his best friend’s younger sister…until he no longer does. He sees the temptress beneath the good girl reputation, but he knows that he can’t have her. His tastes run a little rougher that what Penny thinks she wants and his relationships have a 2 week expiration date. Too bad Penny is set on testing and tempting him at every turn, until the only option left is to give in…

If you thought book one was hot, just wait till you get your hands on Sebastian. Sweet mother of cock was the man delicious. Dirty talking, wickedly delicious.

Tell me,” he said, delivering kisses on her thigh as he continued to get closer to the spot that was dampening by the second.
“Have you ever been eaten?”
“No.”
“I’m the first.” It wasn’t a question, rather a statement.”
“Yes.”
“Then I should warn you… I’m not going to eat you, I’m going to DEVOUR you.

If you want sizzling hot chemistry and a fantastic story, this is the series for you.

Penny and Bass burn up the pages together. Their sexual chemistry was palpable from book 1 and was an absolute inferno in their own book. I couldn’t get enough of them. Sebastian is just the right amount of dominant and sexy without being OTT. The man was hot outside the bed and most certainly in it too…

This series is a definite auto-buy for me. I love everything about, including all the side characters, and can’t wait for their own books. I also loved the continuation of Colt J.J.’s HEA. It was so great getting that additional part of their story. If you haven’t read the first book in this series yet, I’m not sure what you’re waiting for. Just be prepared for HAWTness overload.

If you’ve been following me then you know that I am a BIG fan of the dark romances. The darker, the better. Well it does come with a HEA required clause because while my heart may be pervy, it’s also sensitive. Don’t you judge me here! I can handle any amount of mindfuckery, so long as it has a HEA. But I digress.

So last fall, I read this little book called Beneath the Burn. Maybe you’ve heard of it because it’s only ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER! You know when you read a book and the author is so incredibly talented that she’s able to grip you by the throat and capture your heart at the same time with her words? That’s Pam Godwin.
She’s become an auto buy author for me after just one book, and I haven’t looked back since. I love everything this woman writes. Her stories are dark, captivating, erotic and will blow your ever loving mind. Trust.

I’m so excited to have Pam at Dirty Girl Romance today, so that I may pick the dark caverns of her mind (that sounds a little sinister, doesn’t it?) LOL! Let’s call it an interview then 🙂

DGR: Hi Pam! Thanks so much for being here. Let’s start out simple. Can you introduce yourself to the readers that haven’t yet discovered the dark and erotic awesome that is you?

PG: Hey ladies! Well, as you probably guessed, I’m a shameless romantic. Not the sappy kind but the painful, angsty, scrape the fringes of sanity romantic.I’ma lifelong vegetarian, I carry a Ruger 9mm, and 23 years ago I shared a glance with a stranger across a parking lot and knew in that moment I would marry him. We’ve been torturing each other ever since. 🙂

DGR: You’ve written some of my most favorite darker romances. Is that your preferred genre or do you think you’d ever make it to the land of sunshine and butterflies? (Not that I want you too btw 😉 )

PG: Horror is my first love, but those axe-wielding, damaged monsters are rarely sexy enough. Dark romance is horror basted in sensual masculinity and filthy words. It reaches inside your torment-loving pleasure centers and shoves you out of your comfort zone. So yeah, I prefer this genre. That said, I’ve always had a fascination with paranormal and sci-fi, especially vampires, and plan to return to the world of weird and speculative someday. But no sunshiny vampires. I’ll leave those to YA, a genre I’ll never write in.

DGR:  Who are some of your favorite authors right now?

PG: Jacqueline Carey will always be my favorite. I also love Karina Halle, Joey W. Hill, and Kresley Cole.

DGR:  Without thinking too long about it, tell me your top 5 favorite books….and go!

PG: The Kushiel Series by Jacqueline Carey, The Vampire Queen Series by Joey W. Hill, The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith, After by Varian Krylov, and Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton

DGR:  You’ve written some very tortured characters, and I realize this is probably like asking you to pick a favorite child, but who was your favorite to write?

PG: Van Quiso, who really is a child in a way. During my time in his head, I learned as he learned. Love isn’t a miracle cure, but selfless love can be an impetus for change. Van made a lot of mistakes, some unforgiveable, and as I wrote his story, I didn’t want him to be forgiven so much as I wanted him to be accepted, flaws and all. Oh, how I love flawed characters and Van wears his unapologetically.

DGR:  Now your stalkers…erm…fans, are dying to know; are you going to continue with the Deliver series? Any hints? Please? Or would you have to shoot me if you told me?

PG: I will probably continue the Deliver series.Eventually. I prefer to write stand-alones, each with a new world and a new cast of characters. So after I write a few more stand-alones, we’ll see.

DGR:  I know that if I had to go without coffee, I’d fear for public safety. I have this condition called RagingBitchitis if I don’t have at least one cup. What are some things you would never be able to go without?

PG: Sex. Yeah, you’re all grinning and nodding your heads. Dirty girls. You get it.

DGR: What started out as a pervy need to catch glimpses of Charlie Hunnam’s naked ass, turned into a SoA addiction for me. Do you have any favorite shows you’re obsessed with?

PG: My answer is going to make you groan, but I don’t watch TV or movies. The only show that held my interest was The Walking Dead. Even then, I grew bored after a few episodes. I’d rather be reading it.

DGR:  What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

PG: I’m an insomniac and can only sleep in one or two hour spurts. I fall asleep reading. I wake in the middle of the night and read. And I don’t use an alarm clock, because I’m up before the sun…usually reading.

DGR:  What’s up next for you? What are you working on? Any tidbits or crumbs you can share with us?

PG: I’m mid-way through a Romantic Thriller. I haven’t revealed the title or blurb yet, but I’ll tell you about the photo-shoot for the cover. I borrowed a racing motorcycle, bought a helmet, rented a tux, bribed a male model, and slept with the photographer (hubby has a multitude of talents LOL). The cover is going to be ahhhmazing. Can’t wait to share it with you.

DGR:  Anything you’d like to leave the readers with?

PG: I’ll leave you with the wise words of Tiffany Reisz.“It’s not erotica until someone gets hurt.”

Blog Tour, Review & #Giveaway: ☆Burying Water☆ by @KathleenATucker

BURYING WATER is a New Adult Romantic Suspense novel, published by Simon & Schuster and it will blow. You. Away!

Burying WaterThe top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

And the truth pushed to the surface.

Like water, buried.

If you’ve read the Ten Tiny Breaths series, this book is NOTHING like that, but in the absolutely best possible way. I knew after only finishing the prologue that this was going to be one of those books that will leave me glued to the pages and devouring every word. And you know what? I was not even a little wrong. Burying Water is the perfect example of the incredible talent of K.A. Tucker as an author. She has take bits and pieces and flashbacks and has expertly woven it all together in a story that is captivating, suspenseful, and emotionally gripping. In short? I loved it.

Now I don’t believe in fairy tales. Or at least, not in the happily-ever-afters that Disney brainwashed us all with.”

Left for dead after a brutal attack that she is lucky to barely survive, “Jane Doe” wakes up with zero recollection of who she is and no memory of her past.

Short of a blurry flashback and a tattoo on her pelvis, she struggles with resurfacing her memories and wondering if she will even survive getting them back.

What if all those little bits that make up me get lost, overshadowed by one dark memory? My last memory, the one that made me want to forget everything else in the first place. Will I be able to escape the kind of damage that experience can cause?

Taken in by the reclusive old woman that lives on the nearby horse farm, Jane renames herself “Water” and begins to rebuild her life. She may not remember anything from her past, but a persistent feeling of familiarity whenever she catches the eye of Jesse, the mysterious man with the dark penetrating eyes that watches her from afar. Does she know him? Or does she simply wish she did?

Burying Water is told in constant flashbacks from past and present. The one thing that I truly loved is that the author separates the POVs in each one; with the past told only in Jesse’s POV and the present being told in Water’s. This was so intricately woven together that it actually made the story that much better. I am not usually a fan of constant flashbacks, but in the case here it was absolutely perfect.

Jesse is a character that you will fall for right away. You won’t be able to help yourself. With every small bit that the author trickle feeds you regarding his past you will fall for him more and more.

Her breathing evens out, her heart beasts steadily against my side.
I absorb all of it.
As I fall fast and hard.

I really don’t want to give you any more detail, as you simply must experience it for yourself and it’s best to go into it as blind as you can. But what I can tell you is that this was a beautiful story or resilience and quiet strength. It’s a tragic and emotionally gripping romance about two people that shouldn’t have come together, and yet they did.

What do you want? Right now, from me,” he whispers against my mouth.
I swallow against my ball of nerves. “I don’t want to be afraid.”

It’s also an amazing story with an undercurrent of suspense that will leave you completely unable to set it down until the last page.

The mind, it can be a deceitful thing.
But it is no match for the heart.

If you’re a fan of this author, I highly recommend this book. And if you haven’t yet read anything by her, I guarantee you’ll become a fan after reading this one.
